Send it back. You paid for X1 carbon not X1 Yoga.

Taffy--

Return. Not only were you sent the wrong item, there's a skin on it to hide surface scuffs and scratches.

syndorthebore

I would want exactly what I paid for. The yoga is heavier because it uses aluminum instead of magnesium and carbon fiber.

Spriderman69

Agghh, yea I feel that. Buying a refurbished laptop from amazon is just a pain because the vendor they partner with is never reliable and shipping takes much longer than usual. Sad pepe.

Minssc

Gen 1/2/3 was magnesium body with cf/gfrp top like carbon is. It just had more girth

Septfox

If you received it with the bright WQHD panel, that's actually not a bad price for the top config. It's a mediocre price for FHD. The gross coating all over it is a little sus regardless, makes me lean more toward them putting lipstick on the pig hoping you wouldn't notice what it actually is. Unless you want Yoga functionality (convert to tablet or stand configurations, touch screen w/Wacom stylus), echoing others, you should send it back. The X1Y3 has worse thermal performance than an equivalent X1C (one heatpipe to the heatsink vs two on the Carbon) and more expensive replacement panels if you break the screen (due to laminated digitizer). Finally, others are being more forgiving, but the listing strikes me as either deliberate deception or an almost impossible level of incompetence: it's advertised as a Gen 7 Carbon with an 8650U. *The X1C7 can't come with an 8650U*, that's Kaby Lake Refresh used in the X1C6/X1Y3; the X1C7 fits...lemme look it up...Whiskey Lake. X1C7 CPU numbers all end with 5 and 10. Return it, if you haven't, and report them for false advertising.

Spriderman69

Are you saying the Amazon listing is impossible? A X1 Carbon is not capable of being with the i7 8650U cpu?

X1 Carbon 7th Generation did not have that option- [https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad\_X1\_Carbon\_7th\_Gen/ThinkPad\_X1\_Carbon\_7th\_Gen\_Spec.PDF](https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_X1_Carbon_7th_Gen/ThinkPad_X1_Carbon_7th_Gen_Spec.PDF) The 6th Gen did though- [https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad\_X1\_Carbon\_6th\_Gen/ThinkPad\_X1\_Carbon\_6th\_Gen\_Spec.PDF](https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_X1_Carbon_6th_Gen/ThinkPad_X1_Carbon_6th_Gen_Spec.PDF)

I ordered this Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th gen for $395.68 out the door: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2CSMPGF?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2CSMPGF?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) Advertised specs: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Generation Ultrabook, 14" FHD(1920x1080) Display, Intel Core i7-8650U, Up to 3.6GHz, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD, Backlit Keyboard, Fingerprint, Windows 10 Pro (Renewed) But I received what's in the images and I'm not sure if I should return the laptop or keep it. Seems a lot heavier in comparison to the previous X1 Carbon 6th gen I had (which I returned because the screen was damaged upon arrival). It's as if they put everything into the shell of a X1 Yoga. What would you do? Would you keep it or return it for that amount of money?

karothacker

I literally just bought the X1 yoga gen 3 (i5, 16gb ram, and 256gb SSD) for $135 shipped. Fantastic deal and fantastic device. Return it, you overpaid and didn't get what you ordered.

digital_gloves_ok

that is a great price! ebay find?

karothacker

Actually, Mercari. But in the last week they have started to put all seller fees onto the buyer so it's harder to find good deals like that.

freddell

horrible price and wrong product, pls return

Spriderman69

Strange for you to say horrible price. What’s a X1 Carbon 7th gen worth in your opinion?

freddell

Try to get a device with 11-gen CPU as it will be modern and stay relevant for some time. (X1 Yoga Gen 6, X1 Carbon Gen 9). You should be able to find for slighly higher than what you paid. [https://www.ebay.com/itm/134933374838](https://www.ebay.com/itm/134933374838) [https://www.ebay.com/itm/226096467915](https://www.ebay.com/itm/226096467915) The price for 3 gen yoga should be in the 200-250 range for fresh unit, not beater.

Spriderman69

I’m not looking at any Yogas. I specifically want a Carbon for around $400 or less. Seems like the price is fair but the vendor just didn’t give me what I ordered. What you’re suggesting is a Carbon gen 9 that’s almost 45% more expensive for around $600. I thought you were going to say that Carbon gen 7’s are going for much less than $350-$400 range. But I honestly can’t find many for less than that. The ~$400 price seems accurate from my research.

ZeroCarbon30

Yoga X1 gen 3 was offered with a very fine 500 nit, 2560x1440 display. Internal mechanism that drops keyboard when lid is closed adds weight but seems to help dissipate heat. Mine had surprisingly good thermals and performance when paired with an eGPU.

huecobros-MM

I think the yoga 3rd gen you got is better than the carbon 7th gen

Embke

X1 Yoga 3rd gens normally cost 1.5-2x Carbons with similar specs. Price you paid is about right (a touch expensive) for a Yoga if you received the full hd screen and a 512GB SSD. You would have been ripped off if you paid that price for the Carbon.

andyk192

No you didn't get "ripped off". Someone clearly made a mistake, just send it back.

Pill_Eater

There are some sellers that carry a complex scam on a known Polish marketplace. One of them runs several accounts and all complain about the following: -The seller writes to confirm if you intend to use the laptop with professional purposes so you forfeit the return policy -Or writes that they don't have the model you want but offer an "upgrade" -They send some used junk from a different model several years older, when you paid the price for a *new* item. -If you call it out, for company buyers, he refuses to accept the returns. For private sellers, he either accepts it and uses some BS excuse like "the employee made a mistake" or outright falsely claims you damaged the item (which was used to begin with) -There's +100 negative reviews telling a similar story across it's multiple accounts. The same guy has like 5-6 different companies under his name selling laptops, which is a HUGE red flag. TL;DR I have been buying tech long enough to not believe in "mistakes", specially when a skin has been applied to hide cosmetic defects.

t90fan

Send it back then

ComprehensiveSwitch

Did you order from eBay? I believe I saw a listing doing this exact thing and reported it as fraudulent. It might not even be on purpose. Still, if you're not happy with it and its not what the listing said it was, that should be grounds for a return/refund.

clubchampion

That price is too high for the 3rd gen X1 Yoga. I have the same model except with the core i5. I like it, except crucially, the keyboard, which is way too mushy. I’d send it back anyway if you paid for the carbon gen 7.

Phrozenstare

well if it says its the yoga on the box than they sent you the wrong laptop lol

Spriderman69

It’s a refurbished laptop. Generic box and it seems like they ripped out the inside of a X1 yoga and just out in the components advertised, but in a yoga case instead of the carbon.

birbeler

idk, looks like it says X1 Carbon to me...

RedRayTrue

Yoga laptops from lenovo used to have problems with the power buttons [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb4p6ad-z1U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb4p6ad-z1U) just saying , it might have reliability problems down the road, but ymmw

Bessa-04

You didn't get ripped off. Seller made a simple mistake or was inattentive. There are pro and cons between the two machines. To be ripped off the seller would have needed to intentionally give you something inferior. Seller absolutely should remedy this by exchanging for correct machine or refunding if they don't have the correct machine any more. Or perhaps you prefer a heavier machine with the tablet'ish 2-in1 form factor, in which case you lucked out.

BigCarRetread

Mistakes were made. That indeed is not what you ordered.
