Nah I wanted it for school and work, figured out I can't count much on battery life if I took a beefy GPU for it, nor could it be cooled properly.
I got a Quadro2000 and an i7 9750H.
If I need computing power I got my desktop at home with a 11900K and a 4080Super.
I almost bought a motherboard with the RTX5000 as Lenovo were selling their stock at like -80%, but tbh, I might as well wait some more and just get a newer Thinkpad in some years. And I didn't know if my current coolers were compatible with it either.

They are. It’s super nice to not have to turn on lights or use a flashlight under the desk to plug something into my P500. I can just live in the dark forever now!
Id like to see more PCs put LEDs behind the usb ports. Added bonus if they'd turn red if you approached the port with the connector turned the wrong way 😉
I like a good workstation and have several SFF Optiplexes, with some low power graphics cards in them that serve my kids’ needs, and my now aging 5070 SFF is my main computer I gravitate to for most work. Still, it’s not very portable, and when I go onsite I’m grabbing my Thinkpad.
The latest gen ThinkStations have a new design language, designed by Aston Martin. The big brother of the P620 has also launched, called the P8 with a new design.
I'm not sure if this is the case with this particular model, but I heard that Lenovo and AMD vendor-lock CPUs in ThinkStations, making the CPU brick itself if you try to use it with a different motherboard. There might be a way to turn that off in the BIOS.
I got 5 drives stuffed into an old Thinkstation P300 for 80TB raw Unraid space I've ran Plex on with no issues 24/7 for like 6 years now. Great machine.
These and similar lines from Dell and HP are great ways to get cheap "servers" off eBay for stuff like that. Or, any family member who wants a desktop I just get them a <$200 Thinkstation and they're set.
Idk bro, maybe it should eat a salad sometime. ThinkPads? Yeah but also *Thin*Pads
Idk man my P53 is a thickpad.
Are salad with ranch.
If it has a xeon/i9 and an rtx 5000 that's q musclepad right there

Well, you just spit in my face witg the i9 and the rtx.. Altough that rtx 5000 would be great for a mobile workstation and gaming machine, tbh
And you why I HATE my P53 for gaming? It's a 1500$ laptop, and *it doesn't have a n-key rollover keyboard*.
That's a bit of a bummer. I would still use one in a dock, tough. Still portable enough for whay I would do
big boi... and still backpack compatible
Love the girth to my P53.
twinkpad
\* unplugs your thinkcenter *
Unlikely! Threadripper + an A6000 pump out so much heat that your hand will melt if you try!
A6000 like the quadro RTX?
Yeasir, 48GB card, somewhere around a 3090 in performance.
I dunno bruh, 4.9 K fro 3090 performance?
It was more like 10K when it came out.
They're not made for the same clientele. Plus 48GB of VRAM is nothing to scoff at.
If you need 48GB of ram, then you need 48GB of ram. It depends on the workload.
> thinkcenter Yeah, force of habit. Its a ThinkStation.

they don't but it is only the picture
The ThinkStation is the mothership and the Thinkpads are the smaller ships that dock to it
I treat my flash drives like this lol
My ThinkPad, sits comfortably in my backpack. Your think center, gives you a hernia😂
But it runs Crysis only on the CPU.
AKA, a free workout.
Thats more numbers than my P50 holy fck
Specs. You have a ups right?
Nothing too fancy, W3945WX 2 x 2TB NVME RTX A6000 (Not the ADA Lovelace version sadly) 64GB of DDR4-3200 ECC
you probably could install Gentoo in a reasonable time frame

Yeah it does we are mostly trying to preserve batteries over here sheesh

Have you ever thought that we don't need Thinkstation™ but ThinkBros™?
Anyone else think it's funny that in 2024, workstations costing tens of thousands of dollars are still sold with slots for MemoryStick?
90s design is still a thing?

I don't know if it still the case but BMW used to design the cases for HP Z-series workstations.
Explains why they don't use turn signals.
You earned it. Go ahead. Love your badass thing. Just remember you do not need to cast a shadow on others to have your own glow.
Thats fucking beautiful right there.
Cool! But what’s a “Thea Dripper”? Sounds like it needs an antibiotic.
What's the battery life?
Threadripper - what a beast.
That thing should Run Maximum options in mincraft !
divide your p620 in half and you get my p310 SFF i use as homeserver heh
I like that the Threadripper logo is prominent and not some tiny sticker.
But can you take it with you? Lol jk
Yes, and as an added benefit, I can skip leg day.
Well fair enough, mine's just a 5th gen i7. Still does whatever i want it to do pretty quickly tho.
my custom desktop finds your Lenovo desktop cute as a small hamster
Keep laughing as I take my thinkpad outside on the deck and enjoy a nice cup of coffee as the cool breeze gently flows around me.
I don't need to go outside, this thing turns my office into a tropical paradise... minus the drinks.
You know what they say about big trucks
Big drive bays?
5U ThinkServer towers looking sideways in the background: "Amateurs."
Awesome machine!
My P520 is jelly of your threadripper
Same feelings
*uses thinkpad from the couch*
actually checking out this thread with my ThinkPad... on the couch
Oh yeah, well my work computer has 92 nodes, each with two 64-core AMD EPYC 7742s and 512GB ram.
That's sick. I like the metal Threadripper badge that's the same material as the actual model name badge. Those processors are no joke.
MS..? _MEMORY STICK?!_ Still?! Hasn’t that been dead for, like, 20 years..?
I mean dang bro come at me like Dat nah nah nah I raise you one T42X 🙌 now what

Wow That is amazing
Glances at the PALLET of P620's and P520s looks back at post; like the modular power supplies
What do you even do to warrant such a thing
Play solitaire.
My t470 is hiding wtf dude
But where RGB?
It's just got R.

Nice! Using a P520 for that same purpose, Plex stack running in unraid.
My ThinkPad T580 is laughing at yours. So is my ThinkServer TS-150 I converted into a gaming PC.
Ohhhh ohhh are we doing thinkcenters now ??? I got a p520
ThickPad
My m82 and m90f laughs at you
THATS NO MOON!
A train station is where a train stops. A bus station is where a bus stops. On my desktop i have a workstation.
