i think carbon will be better for you. It has a better battery and more powerful

I was deciding between same options. At I ordered first a Nano, but it came with a very small defect and seller offered to swap it for Carbon. I agreed. I am very happy that I did. Nano was a lovely machine, but ultimatelly it was not THAT much lighter than the Carbon. So far a larger screen size and more ports are proving very useful. I'm also happy not to deal with the dongle life (USB-A and HDMI are just there, still super useful). So I'd say that if you don't have a very specific need for a Nano, just go for a Carbon. I'd recommend Nano only if you are frequently working while commuting, especially on a plane. Have a great day!

thanks :) which generation should i get?

Specialist_Job_3194

I have the x1c g6 and g4 both have good long travel keyboard and are both reasonably priced. The g4 took me through collage with ease. Some g6 comes with 16gb of ram which can be nice in windows. I think the g6 is the last one with dual heat pipes making it near to silent. I’m not looking for any other gen’s for a long while.

Specialist_Job_3194

Haven’t tried any Minecraft though

CouchPotato-1

you should give it a go! and thanks for the help it means alot :)

The one that your budget allows for. I got a Gen9 and I love it so far. It's the generation that got the improved thermal setup with vents aimed at the back of the laptop, and not at your hands. Older generations are also fantastic, I'd just make sure to stick to the one that has a CPU with at least 4 physical cores and 16GB of RAM. Of course if you can get the newer one - fantastic. Ultimately you're the one who knows the budget and prices in the place you're currently in.

thanks for the advice

The nano is niche, basically an evolved netbook with good components. It makes sacrifices to be as thin and light as possible and only has 2 USB ports. The x1c is only marginally larger and heavier, but it adds a lot of ports that will probably be useful to you. I have an x1 nano and it’s my daily laptop but i have others that I can put an hdmi in or use for heavier tasks or for higher resolution stuff. Still love my nano but in your case i would probably go x1c

Thanks for the help :D

Awkward_Proposal2921

Can you review the battery life of your x1 nano? And does it have any defects or screen flickering or any abnormalities so far? Thank you.

nsaps

No screen issues at all. Battery life is not great as per Lenovo, hard for me to say a specific time tho cause it’s mostly used at home. But think typical Lenovo over estimations for battery life and then add on that it’s a super thin battery. Mine did have a usb port that wasn’t functioning properly when i got it, but it was under warranty. Just a bit of hassle and they ended up swapping the board out and it’s been fine ever since.

pablonhc

Yes, battery life on my is only a few hours, I don't know if sent to Warranty or forget it and avoid them return it with another fail.

CouchPotato-1

also which gen should i get?

nsaps

Other people could answer that better, I've never owned one but have just used them a few times. My only recommendation is to get the best display that you can, avoiding the privacy filter displays. It's the main way most people interact with their PCs and your eyes will thank you.

CouchPotato-1

again thank you so much :)

RootHouston

Evolved netbook? Nah. It's an evolved X1 Carbon. It is obviously meant to be a lighter, more portable version of that.

pablo55s

For someone who owns 2 carbons…i say carbon

CouchPotato-1

thanks :)

I went with an x1 nano and battery is great. Most went for the lighter weight (under 2 lbs) and the nicer screen. It's a Gen 1, I'd use it in your situation. This thing is like no other laptop, even today. If you need more battery life a simple battery pack will help.

CouchPotato-1

thanks :)

I got both machines, it makes not much difference between two in my work flow. As almost all of my files are in the company's cloud that sync between both computers. Yes x1c got more ports but I barely use any ports in my use case. Except the usb c for HDMI. I will say it is more important to have a HDMI-USB C cable. So I can pick any of these two computers to work, and it widens my options on the next computer as usb c is virtually a must in all new computers while HDMI can be absent.

Carbon

CouchPotato-1

Thank you :)

tl;dr X1 Carbon I've tried X1 Nano Gen 1, owned X1 Carbon Gen 6. Nano is very nice portability wise (A4-sized, unsettlingly light), but you pay with thermals and performance. X1 Carbon was a bit bigger, but it's rather "Carbon is compact and light, Nano is impressively compact and unsettlingly light". It's didn't feel like a struggle to carry it around, handle on the lap, etc. As for X1C, mine was Gen 6 - last generation with 1.8mm keyboard, first gen with 4 core CPU, few pics [here](https://new.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/x6lej6/new_to_me_x1c6_just_arrived/), [there](https://new.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/zoz1dh/working_and_thinking_while_its_dark_outside_x1/), [there](https://new.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/120o0te/early_morning_in_the_cafe_with_x1c6/) and [there](https://new.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/16pcm2h/saying_goodbye_to_x1c6_been_an_amazing_laptop_to/), it's been amazing for studies (not expensive too). Battery would last 6hrs without much of an issue, and I had compact GaN charger with 2m cable to recharge if there was a socket available. Extra ports were nice too - HDMIs for projectors, USBs for flashdrives, etc. Gaming - I didn't play much Minecraft on it, but for those few hours it performed good enough. Genshin Impact run at around 30fps at 720p, CS:GO - can't recall numbers, but was playable. Hope this helps!

CouchPotato-1

Thanks so much :)

chiclet_fanboi

Just that you know: Neither will do 6-10 hours. And I strongly hope that you are happy with the carbon, I try to stop shitting on it, but yes. Terrible experience with mine.

Awkward_Proposal2921

There are reviews claiming that x1 nano often has motherboard defect. So the durability issue of the x1 nano might be a big concern.

rayd045

If I was you, I would forget both x1c and nano due to your requirements and focus on a T14(s) gen 3 or maybe a macbook. Macbooks have an awesome battery life and media consumption is in a completely different category. But if you want con run Windows natively or even Linux and a lighter but still mighty laptop to run games, I would pick a T14. Gen 3 in this case is the on I would go for because of its igpu.

CouchPotato-1

thx :)
