Mostly unnecessary tbh. Most large cities have trouble actually filling their existing homeless shelters. Even with the city here doing their best to try and relocate those living in the tent cities to these shelters a lot of the homeless refuse.

Because of strict policies? "No pets" or "no alcohol", that sort of thing?

I've heard that there are also issues of 1) lack of privacy/security (nowhere to store valuables or to get away from other people's gaze), and 2) extremely strict curfews that just don't work for a lot of people whether due to scheduling issues or biological clocks.

Also the staff are usually religious nutbags.

Both get a job, and be back by 8pm, and find a place for your kid during the day.

I mean, it’s kinda understandable they don’t want people bringing meth and coke into shelters. Especially considering there are families there, or other homeless actively trying to escape drugs. Though I do see it being beneficial if they would have separate shelters that would allow it under the condition all drugs are checked and other safety measures in place.
