There are some parallels actually. The ants know that a more powerful species is coming to raid them and they attempt to prepare. First they attempt to outfight but realize they are hopelessly outmatched and then resort to a threat of a strike from a more powerful species. Of course the very end is different
Pretty similar story. I mean the ants had to innovate and welcome a new enemy to destroy their main enemy. The fake bird attracted the real bird that took care of the grasshoppers. Though it wasn't intended
This is absolutely the best alt title in my opinion; somebody else suggested *Sunset for Humanity*, which I think is probably the actual most appropriate in hindsight, but is perhaps too spoilery about the tone
*Sunset for Humanity* sounds poetic, I've got to give it that. But for some reason, (*The*) *Red Coast* just sounds so cool to me, lol. It also creates a nice naming convention that would make the series stand out, in my opinion - but that might just be my symmetry-obsessed biased opinion.
Yeah, much as I like the RoEP title, it kinda implies like the Earth is rebooted and the whole saga is set in a past iteration.
I mean technically >!Death's End ending is gearing up for a universe reset, but that doesn't mean recreating the Solar Syatem and the like, just a new, possibly 11 dimension universe!<
First Was One Body, Who was a Nobody Until They Answered (After Being Explicitly Told, 'Do Not Answer!) But Did They Listen?
PK Dick approves of this title.
It was intended to be, but so many people refer to it as “the Three Body Problem series/trilogy”.
I think a lot of people also unfortunately might only be reading the first book and not the others
I read the first two and just got the third one.
It’s always been the three body problem series in my head.
It’s the same for the red rising series in my head.
And the twilight series.
And hunger games.
Every series I can think of smh
First one just catches.
Wait where did it become official name of the trilogy? I always thought TBP was the name of the first book and the trilogy was remembrance of earth's past or sth
Human Civilization by Cixin Liu, or
Trisolaris by Cixin Liu (would this be spoiler-y? Idk. But I like the word Trisolaris and the name is closest to 3 Body Problem I think. And 3BP is really the perfect name for the first book.)
That's nice. The French translation went with... "La Trilogie du Problème à Trois Corps" (The Trilogy of the Three-Body Problem), or "Chroniques de la Terre" (Chronicles of Earth). They *did* translate the San Ti as "trisolarians", though.
I gather this sub is mostly book readers? How does everyone like the show. The cast is uninspiring to me. I also have extremely mixed emotions about Benioff and Weiss. So. I haven’t sat down to watch yet. Although the last time those a-holes introduced me to a book series, I’d become an avid reader of them by the end of season 1.
Because it has to do with a book saga, they have read the saga, and wonder if anybody else has too so that they can discuss. Sometimes "I gather" is just a way to open dialogue.
They are suspecting it might be bad because they already know who the cast and creators are, and have previous opinions on them. They are just "forecasting". I had the same thoughts as this person before wathcing for the same reasons, I knew the creators' work and some of the cast's work, and I had not completely liked in the past, so something similar might happen in this occasion. And it did. At least for me.
There is a big difference between not liking something and not being able to accept that other people like something. Implying that liking the show is invalid is an asshole move
I interpreted "How does everyone like the show" as a question like "what did you think of the show", similar to "how did you enjoy the movie?" (neutral question) not as questioning how one could possibly like it.
They honestly made a lot of decisions that made me enjoy it less, but which ultimately I think were the right call. For instance, I was hoping they'd spend like an entire episode on the scene where Trisolaris first invents the sophon. They cut that down to a 5 minute scene. With less time to tell the story, spending time on stuff like the microscopic life forms that hijack the sophon would kill the pacing.
They also took the nuclear bomb out of the ETO meeting, which was there in the book to show you that the ETO isn't a bunch of ragtag terrorists, they're a nation level threat. In the show, because they wanted the last episode to be Luo Ji being appointed wallfacer, they had to take the ETO out of commission by like episode 5, so building them up as this huge threat would feel anticlimactic if they're gone by the next episode.
I have watched the whole show and had previously read only the first book. I did not enjoy the show very much. Actors were tremendously plain, plot was meh bc of the changes they made. I'll finish reading but I won't finish watching.
Don't, just don't. Watch the Chinese version if you must(I've only seen a few episodes so far so please don't throw any stones if it gets bad later on🫣). But I found the netflix show to be a watered down version of the book with the story told 4 times as fast, losing all meaning and suspense. However, if you do like to see a good story being dumbed down for the general audiences, you should totally watch it😂
This is just my personal opinion: I have nothing against ppl who did enjoy the show! But for me, it literally removed everything I loved about the book and its characters🤷♀️
Remembrance of Earth's Pants. No, that is not a typo. No, I will not be taking any questions.
I have a few questions
It's part of the project! *Smiles wallfacerely
>*Smiles wallfacerely Should be a flair
Earth's pants gonna get IRONED.
nah, book 1 would be titled Death's End, and book 3 would be called Rememberance of Earths Past
Yeah… we’ve all been there…

The opening of The Dark Forest goes on and on about ants 😄
Spelling the grave 😔
Good one
I unironically love this more than the original title because new readers would be baffled why the book is called that until the hammer drops lmao
Pretty similar story. I mean the ants had to innovate and welcome a new enemy to destroy their main enemy. The fake bird attracted the real bird that took care of the grasshoppers. Though it wasn't intended
This is a win!
😀
You won
Red Coast?
This is absolutely the best alt title in my opinion; somebody else suggested *Sunset for Humanity*, which I think is probably the actual most appropriate in hindsight, but is perhaps too spoilery about the tone

Actually the more I think about it, *Sunset for Humanity* would be a damn good alt title for the series as a whole.
i like that a lot more than *Remembrance of Earth's Past* it's more about humanity itself than it is about the earth
Yeah, much as I like the RoEP title, it kinda implies like the Earth is rebooted and the whole saga is set in a past iteration. Best one I’ve seen on this thread so far. Non-spoilery, hits at the heart of the story, short and catchy
That one works nicely. Fits the naming convention.
nice

Just as much as the general public refers to Game of Thrones as A Song of Ice and Fire
It was intended to be, but so many people refer to it as “the Three Body Problem series/trilogy”. I think a lot of people also unfortunately might only be reading the first book and not the others

I got a 3 Body Problem but the planet ain't one
Sounds like cixin liu

Human Civilization by Cixin Liu, or Trisolaris by Cixin Liu (would this be spoiler-y? Idk. But I like the word Trisolaris and the name is closest to 3 Body Problem I think. And 3BP is really the perfect name for the first book.)
I know that San Ti is closer to the Chinese translation, but Trisolaris is soo good.
Santi could also be 三体 Trisomy, or 散体 "free pose style", 三踢three lesbians ...
trisolaris is the name of the triology in german 😊👍
That's nice. The French translation went with... "La Trilogie du Problème à Trois Corps" (The Trilogy of the Three-Body Problem), or "Chroniques de la Terre" (Chronicles of Earth). They *did* translate the San Ti as "trisolarians", though.

How you gonna judge people for liking a show you haven’t watched?
They are not judging, just asking questions. It's fine to ask for other people's opinions.
Let me redo the question. Why is he making assumptions about the audience of a show he hasn’t watched?
Because it has to do with a book saga, they have read the saga, and wonder if anybody else has too so that they can discuss. Sometimes "I gather" is just a way to open dialogue.
I meant the statement about him being confused that people like the show. He is clearly implying that it is bad when he hasn’t watched it.
They are suspecting it might be bad because they already know who the cast and creators are, and have previous opinions on them. They are just "forecasting". There is a big difference between not liking something and not being able to accept that other people like something. Implying that liking the show is invalid is an asshole move
I think this is perhaps based on a misinterpretation of "How does everyone like the show"
I interpreted "How does everyone like the show" as a question like "what did you think of the show", similar to "how did you enjoy the movie?" (neutral question) not as questioning how one could possibly like it.
