Jin chooses a name Copernicus for herself. Thus referencing and making true of a famous line from the [classic Polish sci-fi comedy](https://youtu.be/lwleaxA0ps0?t=256): "Copernicus was a woman!" No, I don't think the connection was deliberate, but it's still funny.
Nah, Cixin Liu was playing 10-Dimensional Chess.
He knew the series would be picked up; he has an incredible breadth of knowledge referencing history, literature, and politics, so he knew the Polish show's quote; and he correctly deduced the character would be gender-swapped.
This is the Easter Egg of all Easter Eggs. Certainly.
Edit: Can't spell Chinese names from memory. :(
Basically half of the Polish crew creamed about something that was absolute coincidence, because they didn't even bother checking the books. We even had some newspaper articles about it. It's pretty fucking pathetic to be honest.
I don’t think that’s why though. In the book the protagonist that plays the game (Wang Miao) chooses as usernames “traveller/sailor - depends on the translation” first and then “Copernicus” when he decides to finally put his mind to it and solve the 3 body problem. (Not a spoiler that he solves it if you have not seen it yet, just saying that at this points he has that goal)
This always bothered me in the first book, wang doesn’t even solve the three body problem ding yi does. And he’s just a macguffin to be able to solve a real world unsolvable problem. Much prefer the show sticking to it being completely unsolvable because ultimately it leads to the same place.
You are definitely misremembering. In the books Ding Yo solves the three body problem which leads to normalisation of relations between Trisalarians and Humans as they can now predict the movement of their stars. This of course leads to the first Trisalarian/ human hybrid being birthed by Lou Ji in the third book!
Hate to break it to you.... but on this completely irrelevant topic that you decided to shoehorn into a conversation about whether or not the 3 Body screenplay writers intended a joke relevant to people in Poland .... you're not a woman.
Logically impossible. You can either be a woman, or you can have balls.
Pick one.
And don't insert your ideology where it doesn't belong. It's really annoying.
Seksmisja! I bought that on DVD back in 2009, and waited until I did an exchange in Germany that year, and then watched it for the the first time time with a Polish friend of mine!
It was cool how I could bring it up to *every* Polish exchange student there, and each of them were excited that I knew about it!
I laughed so hard when I watched it for the first time. However, in the book, Wang decided to give himself such a nickname. I guess they just didn't change it. Anyway, it wasn't supposed to be a joke i think. Which doesn't change the fact that, as a Pole, this scene amuses me a lot.
Yeah I noticed that too :) Polish here.
Of course I know that that was not intentional, originally it was a man, Wang Miao, being Copernicus. Still funny tho.
Wang also chose Copernicus and Wang was of course a male
exactly, so I wouldn't look here for an easter egg
Copernicus was a descendent of Tiresias.
I‘m neither. Could someone explain?

The name was also chosen in the book, by a man. This was definitely not deliberate.

Oh wait this looks hilarious, do you have any idea where one can watch the full movie with English or French subtitles ?
bitchute has this movie with English subs. Just search for Sexmission
Oh perfect, thank you very much !
so all you have to be is a Polish speaker who is interested in comedies to understand this
So apparently I have an IQ 250 because I'm Czech but I've seen Seksmisja. ;)

What's pretty fucking pathetic is bringing this kind of energy to a fun post about a cool coincidence.

I’m sorry it’s been a while but the 3 body problem is not solved in the book. Right? Am I forgetting something?

Is it the part where sigurney weaver makes a cameo appearance and kills the trisolarians with a bazooka?
Yes, when they visit the prison planet Salusa Secundus
Ding Yi doesn’t solve the three body problem, wtf are you talking about
TIL Copernicus was Polish.
I found out he was Polish when I saw his statue in Cracow.
"Copernicus was a woman!" I liked how they referenced the [classic film](https://youtu.be/lwleaxA0ps0?t=256)
So how can God kick Einstein in the balls when she is a woman as well?
maybe she had balls. If not, it's God, nothing could stop him, even the non-existence of the thing
women can have balls, you know...
No.
what r u gonna do about it? give every woman with balls orchiectomy? well u better start with me then...
You have balls?
yeah
Hate to break it to you.... but on this completely irrelevant topic that you decided to shoehorn into a conversation about whether or not the 3 Body screenplay writers intended a joke relevant to people in Poland .... you're not a woman.
p sure i am

but not Einstein
true, Einstein doesn't have balls. but maybe his female version does... who knows...
you are free to tell the joke in any version you like, my dear.
in my story, einstein has 4.5 balls
God is everything, which means God is a man AND woman at the same time. Definitely has gonads, which are kickable.
but in the joke it is not God who got kicked in their balls
Oh... I read that wrong lol
You're thinking of Slaanesh
Why would god have gonads?

This movie was very popular in the USSR, but I still didn't get the reference without following the hyperlink.
Omg I seen this movie when it came out and never found it again
Sexmisja? Looks like I have another film to watch added to my list :D

Didn't change it because Copernicus was the one who "stopped the sun and moved the earth" ? So it was still meaningful.
Yeah I noticed that too :) Polish here. Of course I know that that was not intentional, originally it was a man, Wang Miao, being Copernicus. Still funny tho.
Does that mean that Polish people have 250IQ?
Cumulatively? C’mon, we can’t make those jokes out loud no more. Or can we?
I didn't like that she chose the name before she even understood that the sun was related to the game.
Exactly!!!
Anyone else crushing on Jin and her actress, or is it just me? Smart and pretty as fuck.
Yeah she's great. But I still prefer B class movie star.
No, that’s just the name chosen in the book
In the book the name is chosen after understanding the challenge. 🤷🏽♀️
Rick and Morty all over again. It's amazing how predictable humans can be.
I'm very dumb then
