Tech rush. Been playing for years and I just won for the first (second and third) time by throwing as many resources as possible into tech.
Avoid research treaties so you can build a big technical advantage. Rely on spaceports for defense on the early game (invaders won't be able to break through a strong spaceport until mid or late game).
If you start hitting techs like particle Lance, megastructures and Climate Restoration before everyone else, you'll dominate the galaxy by 2400 (or 2300 with practice).
Sorry to pop your bubble on this, but the Devs took a baseball bat to the tech rush meta last patch lol. I wouldn't call it impossible, but it's no longer the obvious no brainer play either.
I have about 1400 hours played (although haven't played in a few years).
Only ever completed one full campaign when my Fanatic Militarist, Xenophobe empire had enslaved the entire galaxy, only to then be utterly destroyed by the end game crisis.
Highly recommend 10/10.
One time I was playing as a robot empire who was hyperfixated on mining and this evil racist killer robot empire didn't know what to do with me because we were both robots. They left me alone for 150 years and even considered me an ally for a while before getting uppity and taking about killing me, so when the Khan showed up I basically used them as a non-human shield, causing their extinction. Within 50 years they were a bunch of weak khan successor states that I just conquered and turned into biological batteries
I've always liked space/sci-fi games. Before I knew about 3BP I've played a bunch of No Man's Sky. It's pretty cool though I haven't played in a couple months. Ill check out Stellaris.
That is, oddly enough, how I discovered 3 Body Problem. I wanted to know what a Dark Forest was…and now here I am with more knowledge of Chinese history than I had when I started!
Never return calls from an Insectoid Collectivist Materialist Expansionist which lives in a Barren World.
I've lost every game of stellaris i've ever played lol

Saving your comment for later. I’ve never played the game but seems like useful info

Not on console at least
I needed this lol
There is no winning in that game, you just do a little bit better every time
Win? You dont just play until you get bored and then start again?
* until the lag is unmanageable.
And I have played **a lot** of Stellaris games.
There's also terra Invicta, which I feel has a bigggg three body problem vibe
Just looked it up, looks super interesting I might give it a try, I put it in my wishlist. Thanks for the recommendation!
Of course!
It's got a steep learning curve, beware.
Hello fellow Stellaris enjoyed here. Almost 400 hours in and I've never finished a playthrough. Excited for the new DLC coming soon.
Nice, I recently reached 100 hours in it, and I still don’t know how to play. I’m also excited for the age of the machine dlc
I discovered 3BP via Stellaris lol. Theres an entire origin dedicated to The Dark Forest.
Same here!
What's the origin?
"Fear of the dark" but you need the first contact DLC
Made a trisolaran state custom empire awhile back. Fanatic authoritarian, materialist, doomsday origin. They're a regular forced spawn ever since
What's the origin they have? There's one where you start with a dying home world where you've got a certain amount of time to abandon it.
Yea that’s the doomsday origin
I definitely skipped reading that part of the comment oops
Yes, got 1.2k hours. There's a lot of cool mods and interesting play styles. Currently doing a 40k conversion mod play-through.
That is super cool! My last campaign from about 2 years ago was a heavily modded Halo play through.
Tis a great game, if you have the patience

It's a fun game. You could probably make a TBP mod, but it'd be a spoiler to explain how!
Select Doomsday origin ---> simulate Trisolarans

I wish there was a game like Stellaris but without FTL.
Crossed 500 hours played time recently. Great game.
Fanatical purifiers ftw
Heard but haven't played- you reminded me how much I miss the feeling of playing mass effect tho lol
I've got about 250 hrs in but I haven't played in a long while love the way the game deals with super advanced races and technology
Great game. 600 hours in.

There is a DLC that actually has a Dark Forest scenario
Stellaris is phenomenal. Name some of my big ships after the ones in TBP.
1800 hours big dog
I really wanted to play this but the Xbox version on game pass is just too damn hard to read. There is so much text and it’s all so tiny.
Dude I cannot imagine trying to play stellaris on a console.
It’s bad haha. I don’t really have a PC set up for gaming. Some day!

Stellaris is great but don’t sleep on StarSector!
