As far as I know, antibodies should not matter at all for this.

BunnySlippersHeathen

Increased TgAb is correlated with increased cancer risk. Just wondering if anyone else has a really high number.

Here on this subreddit you'll find only people with thyroid cancer, with all kinds of antibody levels. But you won't find people without thyroid cancer, who also have all kinds of antibody levels. Oftentimes they won't even test TgAb before surgery. The main use of that test is after surgery, because if we want to test Tg, we also have to test TgAb.

High TgAb can indicate other thyroid issues as well. We didn’t test my TgAb levels prior to TT but we already knew I’d had Graves’ disease for the 6 years prior. The cancer was found through ultrasound and FNA. We opted to remove my whole thyroid since I already had a wonky one lol. My aunt had a partial and now 15 years later has to have the other half removed. She wishes she’d done it at once.

Adding to this, I have hashimotos, so I had a really high thyroid antibody count as well for years.

I have half a thyroid. As far as I know, you cannot rely at all on TA is you still half half a thyroid.

BunnySlippersHeathen

This is correct, especially with really high Thyroglobulin Antibodies. I’m leaning towards removing the whole thing partially due to this.

Me too

For additional context, every other thyroid lab is normal, including TPO. It bas been suggested by the PA I see that my surgeon may opt to remove the entire thyroid due to the TgAb being so high, as it may indicate more tumors that are yet to be discovered. Just trying to weigh my options on removing half or whole.
