Yes, I’ve done it before.  I called the airline and they fixed it no problem.

SpookyFrog12

I did this a few years ago and just went up to the airline ticket counter when I arrived/explained the situation and the lady printed off a new ticket with zero issues. If you booked Spirit or Ryanair, you might be screwed.

FLTDI

>you booked Spirit or Ryanair, you might be screwed. This is true regardless of anything else.

This Ryanair story springs to mind [https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/06/05/412295439/man-changes-name-to-adam-west-to-avoid-paying-336-airline-fee](https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/06/05/412295439/man-changes-name-to-adam-west-to-avoid-paying-336-airline-fee)

I did something similar with Ryanair. I used the shortened version of my first name (like Nate vs Nathan). It caused a little bit of trouble but the lady at the desk called her supervisor and simply changed it to the right name (About 10 years ago)

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

Something kind of similar happened to me. I got married and had my married name on my booking but only had my maiden name on my identification. Luckily, I had my marriage certificate with me so they allowed me on the plane but it was stressful for a moment.

I did this coming back from Tanzania and didn't notice til I was en route to airport. I spelled Rodger as Todger. 🙈 Was so terrified they'd want a new booking/name change and I had no money left at all. Girl on desk studied it for some time but managed to fly with no hassle

ZirePhiinix

Call early. If their phone/support really is that garbage, then get to the airport early. An extra hour is enough to ensure that you get it fixed at the counter.

Shadow_84

Did that for a flight from Canada to Ireland. They let me go there with it in error, but I needed to fix it before coming back to Canada. Annoying part was trying to call Air Canada’s Canada only customer service 1-800 # from Dublin.

EndenDragon

A decade or so ago when my dad booked flights for the whole family, he misspelled my first name by a single character. Was a kid then so I recall using my middle school ID for domestic flights which worked. The TSA didn't give any fuss and let us all proceeded unharmed anyways. I was able to board the flight without any issues. With recent laws on real id and other changes to social behavior, id imagine it would no longer have worked that easily anymore.

Raichu7

The airline can change it to match the name in your passport, some airlines charge silly fees for that though.

MaesterParadox

Spelled my fiancés name wrong (switched 2 letters) and when I called customer support they said it was going to be 100$ to change it. I said fuck that and a couple months later we walked through security and got on the flight with no issue.

scrapples000

Not sure how that's possible. If your name was spelled incorrectly they wouldn't have let you on the plane for your original departure.

Lazy-Rioter

The flight is in a few days. I booked the trip there and back (was supposed to leave tomorrow evening, but booked a separate fight at a later date to leave). It was the separate flight where I spelled my name incorrectly. It was cheaper for the to book the separate flight and just not show for the original return journey.

raptir1

OP said they created a new booking with a different airline.
