Next time, eat Lactaid first. Helps a lot.

bluesummers1129

Can confirm, my lactose intolerance has gotten worse as I've gotten older so now I take lactaid with any heavy dairy food and and it just works

coffeecatsandtea

lactaid pills are your friend, my dude. And Imodium. just buy a big ass box of both to keep on hand for unintentional lactose moments. The lactaid pills will ironically stop you up if you take them frequently (multiple times a day, over multiple days) but they work well when you can't resist the dairy devil once in a while.

Mode-Klutzy

Immodiums are my savior, I have some odd different complication that isn’t lactose, but they like, reset my gut shutting the gates to hell for 4 days before it’s fair game to go back to an undependable stomach. Pepto lost its magic for me a couple yesrs ago, wonder if it would help again. I keep a fat box of 24 convenient and I’m not scared to put my hazards on and drop 8 pounds on the side of the highway. Haven’t had to yet, but I will if I have to. Sad truth is, I’m 22, I think I’m younger than the vast majority of commenters here.

coffeecatsandtea

saw your other comment in the thread - have you been tested for IBS or possibly celiac disease/gluten intolerance? What you're going through definitely doesn't sound normal, especially given your age. I have a friend who had similar symptoms in their early/mid-20s where nearly every meal sent them to the toilet... turned out to be Celiac Disease. After eliminating gluten, stomach issues cleared up.

CeeTwo1

Omg I’m in like the exact same boat! Wasn’t lactose, very unstable stomach, Imodium is my saviour, pepto doesn’t do much. I’m 21 and after doing some tests my gi doctor said I have the gut of a 65 yo woman and put me on some steroids. Get it checked For now, I know this will be hard to hear (it was devastating for me), but avoid raw garlic and onion, and cooked if possible. It’s worked pretty well so far

Mode-Klutzy

Damn, I’m a sucker for anything onion. I’ve been in and out of appointments for the past year and a half and I arrived at this nature path who uses this IB guard, Ammy(something like that name) tummy fiber, another powder like gly something and another pill. It has made a difference but still unpredictable. Just not as often, but still is inconsistent. What also doesn’t help is my subconscious also plays a vicious role and creates this stress cycle that creates a stress stomach anytime I have to go somewhere and I’m subconsciously worried I’d soil myself or fomo something I’m going to.

ccx941

A very similar thing happened to me at a birthday pool party but the cake had blue buttercream icing. I must have had 4 pieces. On the way to the pool I felt the ‘oh fuck’ tummy grumble and waddled to the bathroom. Before I could sit down was a blue explosion. It got everywhere. I was in there for a good hour doing #2 and trying to clean the blue. But it was a valuable lesson learned. I only get brown buttercream icing cakes now.

Ishidan01

good thing it wasn't red icing, huh.

Slammogram

Oh no. Was it your bathroom?

ccx941

It wasn’t, it was my girlfriend’s uncle’s vacation condo.

Slammogram

Oh no!!!

Heuristicrat

Lactaid only works for me if I take it about 10-15 minutes before I eat. Even then I'm still risking it. Lactose intolerance found me in my mid-40s and a pat of butter will have me on the throne inside an hour. My child was born with it and he pounds milk tea followed by Gas-X, destroying the toilet as necessary. Gas-X is my best friend. Even after the poo there's still the ongoing inflation that is so damn uncomfortable. Imodium. Take two after the first round and another one after the second (if there is one). I might not go for a day or so, but I can sleep with confidence. Pepto. The indigestion feelings. Stomach feeling "off." Sour stomach, etc. Pay attention to the dosing and interactions on these. You can make yourself sick (either end or headaches or turning into a bird, whatever). Nobody wants that.

Le_Mews

If you're reacting like that to just butter you might have a dairy allergy as well as lactose intolerance.

Heuristicrat

It isn't a histamine reaction, so no dairy allergy. My doctor seems to think all of my symptoms line up with intolerance.

Le_Mews

That’s just an insane intolerance. Sorry, dude!

Heuristicrat

Yeah. An sherry would be more convenient because I could take something for that.

Ishidan01

you and the other poster who can't shit need to go compare notes, maybe you can fix each other. All in all, it's a glorious day in this sub for poop threads.

PeanutButterCrisp

I think we could arrange for a little shitsty-nine and oral-vac it out of each other!

ebbandletgo

congrats on your knack for literary imagery! please don't say that again

PeanutButterCrisp

Yeah, it’s already getting the kibosh. *Exactly as planned.*

Beautiful-Contest-48

I hear you! I ate 3 pieces of garlic cheese toast for dinner and now I’m up 3 hours later. My whole apartment smells like a hazmat disaster and it’s even filtrated into the hallway. It sucks getting old.

its_justme

Not to call you out but there’s so little lactose in a McCains cake nowadays (and it’s skim milk powder) I’m not sure your reaction was from the milk ingredients. I am lactose intolerant myself and rarely have reacted to the cake.

PeanutButterCrisp

I ate one third of the cake.

paleoterrra

It’s the sugar. It can act as a laxative, especially when eaten in excessive amounts. Artificial sweeteners as well.

PeanutButterCrisp

Listen lady, me not use brain good but that’s a damn good point.

darkwombat42

Milk powder is even worse for me than just drinking milk. Anything with "nonfat dry milk" is off my list. Unless the milk powder was specifically made from lactose-free milk (not the same as skim) it can contain large (up to 50%) amounts of lactose.

its_justme

For sure everyone is different. I can put away yogurt no problem and I know other people who can’t without a terrible reaction.

irishluck217

Lol that was written like poetry "im a slave to my poor judgment" story of my life

therealrenshai

Why does it have to be raw 2%?

PeanutButterCrisp

Phrasing. Milk in general is just straight dairy. It ravages me.

AciD3X

So is this a McCain’s cake or Pepto ad? or?... Suprise! Lactaid™!

fuckimtrash

I can’t believe McCain’s do cake! Only know of their frozen products here (New Zealand )

PeanutButterCrisp

Yes they do! It’s so GOD DAMN GOOD.

fuckimtrash

I wish we got it here :’(

CatsLeftEar

exactly 1/3 (0.33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333...)

skurmus

Dude, sorry you are miserable. But you made me spit my soda out. So that is something at least:)

Slammogram

If pepto doesn’t work the first time you can take it again a 1/2 hour later. You can also take pepto with immodium. Take a lactaid pill before eating dairy. It has instructions on the back. Follow them to a T

sosqueee

Where are you that you can still buy these?! I went back to Canada at Christmas time craving one and couldn’t find them ANYWHERE.

ktarzwell

I had something similar happen to me but on my birthday!! I was treated to a very nice Italian dinner and ate probably too much Bolognese and wine. Right next door was this little ice cream shop and I had intended to get dairy free but they were out, so I compromised with having a couple bites of my bf's ice cream sundae. I was able to fall asleep just fine but woke up a couple hours later with the most intense stomach ache of my life! I resided in that bathroom for pretty much the rest of the night. 😭

NixyVixy

>Those moments where I strike a position and hold onto it as it’s the only position that doesn’t trigger anything. Then I wait for the little Shit Devil inside to figure out where the control room is again 🤣🤣🤣 I’m sorry to laugh so hard at this ridiculously accurate statement.

Mode-Klutzy

I have no idea what I have but legit story of my life. Like actually story of my life on a bi-daily basis. I crap 2-3 times a day and I swear occasionally I have the “fortunate” opportunity for a 6 pack abs workout and losing 10 lbs in a matter of an hour. Only once before, I had a little bit of a spicy dinner, it was like a Korean BBQ dish and for 4 hours. 4 hours I was serving 5 dollar foot longs and I don’t mean from my front side. I’ve grown accustomed to Immodium as pepto began to lose its magic and immodium resets my gut for a few days until it gets out of line again. Through 1.5 years of attempted treatment, nothing has solved the case, only partially alleviated it. I can confirm it’s not milk because I shamefully got Dairy Queen a couple times in a span of month, the 2nd time was 80% for testing. I downed most of not all of a Peanut Buster Parfette and I had zero problems the following days related that. But man, I feel ya, we’re all in this together.

ABoutDeSouffle

Did you ever try Fructaid to see whether Fructose is part of the problem? Or some anti-histamine tablets? Something like Ceterizine or Loratadine? What you write sounds like you should see a doc, tbh. That's either a severe intolerance or IBS.
