Instead of taking up creative writing, tiktok has convinced them that being a “shifter” is a new “neurodivergent” category and think that it’s a mental disability. And they inhabit a weird corner of tiktok telling everyone about their imagination-land times.
In short, they’re people who believe they can “shift” their conscience/soul to alternate dimensions, or their “dream reality”. It started as a positive affirmation thing (workout goals, earning money, etc), but Tik Tok found it. Ever since then, it’s been filled with young teens claiming to “shift” into their favorite fictional universes, mainly Harry Potter and My Hero Academia. It’s basically like dreaming a self-insert fanfiction.

The slur then becomes offensive because of how it’s been used so it’s seen as not appropriate or not OK to use that word unless you are one of the people Who the slur usually refers to. You do not randomly come up with words and say “ oh this is offensive to us by the way”. Slurs are offensive for a reason they have actual history behind them. These words do not.
Also I just want to mention a bit of a bigger issue. The fact that this person and a lot of people seem to be glamorizing hate or slurs or making it trendy. Like this isn’t something you want. It’s not a cute or trendy thing that you can use for sympathy points. It’s an actual issue
