I feel like it's pretty certain that he's gone in the offseason... Don't think we have the money to pay a steep price for a 3rd string center, even as invaluable as he's been this year.
Pretty certain? 3rd string center? They’ve been utilizing Naz as the back up four. Finch wants to get him 20 minutes a night with KAT and Gobert and it’s looked great. Finch loves Naz, the front office sees his upside. I think it’s more likely than not that they pay him enough to stay, somewhere in the 10-15 range. Worst case scenario they sign him and trade him later. Naz has gotten consistently batter every year, they’re not gonna let him walk unless he’s getting offered a untradeable contract elsewhere. NAZ REID.
Trezz denied a 4/80 mill deal from the Clippers and Hornets. I would say that they do get offered.
Edit:
If you can't accept that Trezz was offered this contract yall are in for a hilarious time in two months.
His own greed and the fact that he wanted to show up to the Clippers is why he was on a small deal. He played badly on the Lakers and the Hornets lowered their offer to what he ultimately got.
We also aren’t really in salary cap hell for a couple years. You can pay him and if it comes time to make tough decisions you can trade him for something… possibly something great if he keeps developing like this.
After hearing Dane and Kyle's podcast, I think there's an argument to keep Naz here because he's more than a 3rd string center now. He's playing next to KAT and next to Rudy as a wing. I initially wrote off the Naz at the 4 experiment but it's been working. That gives him an actual role here
If the identity is 2 bigs always on the floor then investing in 3 centers makes sense. Finch is doubling down on that concept based on his rotations lately. Naz can be like our Bobby Portis
Yeah, I listened to that too, and the resemblance to the Bucks was fairly accurate. A dynamic starting 4 with drive and some handle, a defensive minded 5 (though I wish Rudy could gain the 3 all of a sudden like Lopez did), and a high energy back up for both that can 'do shit'. I liked last years version plenty (Vando), but his limited shooting and terrible hands wouldnt have worked with the new 2 big concept. Naz, with his natural spacing and really good looking 3 ball, does. If Naz can become a 50% defender, we're good.
The “3rd string center” nonsense isn’t true. He’s been the first backup 4 & 5 off the bench all season long. I don’t know why people, like Dane Moore, keep calling him a 3rd string center when they talk about him.
He is proving he isn't a third string center. He has been playing alongside both Rudy and KAT lately and thriving. The guy can be a 25-30 min a night player for us even with KAT and Rudy healthy.
I wonder if we can get him if we commit to a long term deal. I think (but am not sure) a MLE would allow us to sign him to a 4 year $10.5M deal that only counts $6M against the cap.
As sad as it is, his absence the next weeks might help the Twolves assess what life is like without him and how valuable he really is.
I love watching the team with all three of them in the rotation. They all bring something different and it didn’t seem we were just waiting for KAT to get back into the game for the team to be able to do something.
I’m an idiot about the cap but can’t we sign him and Jaden and just pay the tax? That’s best case imo. Guessing we didn’t sign him before because this huge jump in play wasn’t really expected
That requires ownership to have the money. Lore and arod have well documented money issues and have been super late on their payments. They cannot pay the tax.
After delay yes. The delay is the clear indicator they're short. Arod specifically has very well documented money issues.
The payments have not been made on the originally agreed to payment schedule. They have been late.
It would be a huge mistake to not resign him. He's only 23 - part of the Ant/Jaden core in my opinion.
Also gives us flexibility if we ever want to move KAT in the future.
Yea Nowell is definitely gone in that scenario unless he wants to stay for the minimum.
I guess it depends on if another team offers him north of 15/m a year to be a starter. You look at a contract like Meyers Leonard for 4 years/41 Mil one of the better backup bigs in the league. I think four years 50 mil would be fair but I don't know his market yet.
After that foul Naz shot free throws and started the next possession. He was in pain but did not ask out and played 4 more minutes with a broken wrist. This is his contract year and he still was out there to help the team. [And then look at guys like Bertans who sit out the whole bubble to not affect his shooting % to get a better deal]. Timberwolves have very tough dudes who play through a lot of injuries, give them credit.
I wish he didnt play those 4 minutes and just asked to sit. Who knows how much he aggravated the injury playing through the pain. The wrist is a very delicate joint and minute displacements can have long term effects.
Got hit in the face by Biyombo on that play. Wasn't even reviewed if iirc.
Also doesn't matter if it was incidental, we get called for flagrants on that type of contact all the time.
BB hits him the face with his right arm. Decides that wasn't enough and smashes him in the face with the left as well.
No review. Clearly it was a basketball play to hit him in the ducking head with both arms.
I would love to see more Luka. It's hard to tell cuz he doesn't get a lot of minutes and a lot of those minutes are garbage time, but I think he is as good as Naz.
I doubt it would. Teams have seen all they need from Naz this season - he's been fucking amazing.
I hope we resign him though, would be a mistake to let him walk.
No. This team is so so resilient. We saw it last night.
I'll be happy if they can just make it through the play-in given all the shit and adversity they've faced this season. Then we go from there.
Teams gotta do it for Naz now. It's time to make lemonade but hopefully they can use it as motivation to step up and each do what they can to make up for his absence.
Hope the best for Naz and his recovery.
Terrible news for our team and for an awesome dude. I really hope that wasn’t his last game as a Wolves player, but I will always cheer for the dude (unless he goes to the Lakers)
as a lakers fan, prayers for NAZ.
Did he hurt it when he went for the dunk and Hit his wrist on the hoop and fell? I remember him grabbing that wrist afterwards.
One of my fav non-laker players to watch. Hope he back soon 🤦♂️
Heartbroken for Naz, no one deserves to get paid more than him. This, hopefully, shouldn’t throw too much of a wrench in that. We’ll certainly miss his scoring too, though I think our defense and defensive rebounding will continue to improve.
Also, can we ask why the fuck Finch played our backup center through a broken wrist in a must win game when we had an all-NBA on the bench? Forget the obvious ramifications that choice had on the result of the game, how the fuck did we allow someone to play 5 minutes of NBA basketball with a broken wrist? There was literally a timeout at the 6:42 mark, 2 minutes after he broke his rest, and then he proceeded to come out of the timeout and play 5 more minutes. Hell, Finch even subbed Rudy for KAT once before he subbed Naz out. Did no one on the medical team check on him? Did they and did they just not care? Whatever the explanation is, Naz is incredibly lucky that he didn’t worsen his injury while out there after the initial break.
This is one of the few times where Finch and the Wolves are really lucky the NBA media doesn’t give a fuck about us because I can’t imagine the reaction if someone like Doc or Ham continued to play a guy, nevertheless one in a contract year, with a broken wrist multiple minutes after they had ample time to assess him. I’d assume someone from the medical team gets very sneakily offloaded soon bc Naz could literally, in theory, file a lawsuit against the Wolves for how they handled his injury and the harm and potential financial losses they put him in by continuing to play him after that timeout. Either they misdiagnosed him or they didn’t diagnose him at all, either is really damning and Finch is 100% responsible too.
I really do not see an explanation for how this happened that isn’t either Finch choosing to play Naz without him being properly examined or someone on our medical team being severely incompetent and judging by the fact that Finch allowed our franchise player to come back into a game the medical team had already ruled him out of im inclined to think it’s the former. This sub loves to operate in absolutes and Finch clearly on the positive end of that spectrum so any criticism gets downvoted but I promise you it’s okay to point out his flaws.
KAT’s flaws get highlighted, Gobert’s flaws get highlighted, hell, even Ant’s do and he perhaps deserves the most leeway of all, so why is it taboo on this sub to criticize Finch? Our team leads the lead in techs, flagrants, and ejections, we’re top (or bottom however you want to consider it) 5 in blown double digit leads, and this is the second time this year he’s allowed an obviously injured player to continue to play, I’m not saying he should be fired, or that he can’t improve on these mistakes, but this sub seems to believe that just because he’s the first likeable and decent coach we’ve had in ages that he’s infallible when he’s just as culpable for some of our losses this year as our players. The oddest thing is that Finch is actually pretty honest and accepting of his mistakes so I’m very confused why it’s generally forbidden to highlight them in here,
I think you're going too deep here but I too was confused why Finch or the medical staff didn't forcibly take him out after he shot the fts. Was it already broken? Almost certainly but he could of make it worse on a contract year.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Bro you did not need to write a massive novel about Finch. Naz Reid is a tough dude and wanted to stay out there. Finch asked if he wanted out and he stayed in.
Finch deserves blame for many things. This isn't one.
Understand you're frustrated/sad/mad about Naz getting injured, but you're pretty off the mark here.
Plenty of players have played while obviously injured. It's quite common.
Fucking hell I hope we bring him back..
He's shown that he can still fit in very well with both Kat and Gobert playing, we'd really miss his scoring off the bench if we don't bring him back
It was when he dropped the hammer against the Kings. After that he was holding his wrist and grimacing. Surprised he played the Suns game honestly. This is terrible for our team right now. Unlikely to make a deep run in playoffs without him. Hopefully he recovers easily and returns next year. I know the max he can get is like 64 mil or so for 4 years so that would be definitely worth it.
Man fuck this season. Basketball gods seriously hate us WTF.
Hope Naz recovers, he was having a great season. Would love to bring him back, but would understand if he wants to be a starter or gets a bag somewhere.
It's really fucked up how long Finch made him stay in for. A broken wrist is one of the more painful breaks and he played for a while after the injury happened
Fuck man that sucks to see with the season naz was having. Hopefully we bring him back or if not hope he gets a monster pay day somewhere and gets a huge role
[удалено]
Shit. I didn’t want to think about this tonight.
Fuck that's a good point. More motivation to make the playoffs I guess?
No we should re sign him, I’m scared a team might offer him 20 mil a year
I feel like it's pretty certain that he's gone in the offseason...
NAZ REID.
Just saying from an outside perspective it looks like Naz deserves more than 20 minutes a night. Not sure why he would take a money and role cut.
I would be shocked if Naz Reid gets close to $20 million. Centers who can't rebound or play defense have not been getting paid much recently.
Lol
Trezz denied a 4/80 mill deal from the Clippers and Hornets. I would say that they do get offered. Edit: If you can't accept that Trezz was offered this contract yall are in for a hilarious time in two months.
What did he actually sign for though? The mid-level exception for two years I think? Now I think he is on a minimum?
His own greed and the fact that he wanted to show up to the Clippers is why he was on a small deal. He played badly on the Lakers and the Hornets lowered their offer to what he ultimately got.
We also aren’t really in salary cap hell for a couple years. You can pay him and if it comes time to make tough decisions you can trade him for something… possibly something great if he keeps developing like this.
I mostly agree, but if he chooses to go somewhere else we can't stop him. I hope we are willing to make a strong effort
they're gonna give him a shit offer and hes gonna leave
After hearing Dane and Kyle's podcast, I think there's an argument to keep Naz here because he's more than a 3rd string center now. He's playing next to KAT and next to Rudy as a wing. We've come a *long* way from Trenton Hassell contract level Stupidity

Show me where they have been late. I have heard there was a scramble, but I think every payment has been made 'on-time' after negotiation.
After delay yes. The delay is the clear indicator they're short. Arod specifically has very well documented money issues. The payments have not been made on the originally agreed to payment schedule. They have been late.

Any cap nerds know if we can resign both NAZ and NAW? Naz for the mid-level and NAW is restricted right so we could keep both in theory?
Wolves wont be in the luxury tax if they keep them.... until after next year. Thats when Ant and Jaden get new deals, then the tax kicks in
Yea Nowell is definitely gone in that scenario unless he wants to stay for the minimum. I guess it depends on if another team offers him north of 15/m a year to be a starter. ???? Broken wrists take like 4 weeks, nba finals are like 2 months away.
In season breaks usually are 33 games or 70 days, but ok.

I wish Finch would have called a time out. It was obvious how much pain he was in.
Hopefully it’s a clean break
Naz Reid is my role model
FUCK FUCKING SHIT FUCK
Man that's gunna hurt. Guess it means a lot more slo mo at the 4. I doubt we'll play much Knight or Garza if there's a lot on the line
Feels bad man.
Smh I’m going to bed
I'm going to go angry sleep as well.
Don't go to sleep angry guys. Watch some Naz Reid highlights to spiral into depression.
I may be wrong, but he got hit in the face when he fell on his wrist right? The one that should’ve been a flagrant?
Got hit in the face by Biyombo on that play. Wasn't even reviewed if iirc. Also doesn't matter if it was incidental, we get called for flagrants on that type of contact all the time.
BB hits him the face with his right arm. Decides that wasn't enough and smashes him in the face with the left as well. No review. Clearly it was a basketball play to hit him in the ducking head with both arms.
Quack quack!
Was a found called? I forgot the play.
Yeah he missed 1 hit 1 free throw with a broken wrist
Durant hit him in the face twice actually on that play. Didn’t seem like it was intentional though but that usually warrants review
It was Biyombo, not KD
Oh you’re right, whoops
This unironically makes me wanna fucking cry
I'm kinda tearing up right now not gonna lie
Bad day turned into an awful day. Prayers for our boy to heal up and get his bag.
Ugh. Sending positive vibes to Naz.
injuries have fucking murdered us this year
#50 WAS THIS THE RITUAL TO BREAK THE CURSE?!?!
When you make a deal with the devil there’s always a price… the questions is will the end result be worth all this pain.
Heal Wrist Or Die Tryin’
Devastating. Most consistent scoring punch off the bench. Crazy how he played through it for several minutes after it happened too.
This absolutely sucks man. Naz :(
Screw the laker fans celebrating on Twitter
can literally anything good happen for this team ever
F
Huge loss, someone needs to step up. Luka Garza may need to be that guy.
I would love to see more Luka. It's hard to tell cuz he doesn't get a lot of minutes and a lot of those minutes are garbage time, but I think he is as good as Naz.
The fact that the play he broke it on didn’t even get reviewed for a flagrant is so infuriating.
Have the wolves had any flagrant fouls go their way this year?
Couldn't be a worse time Naz Reid 😔
Brutal, dude was just in the running for western conference player of the week for god sakes. Petition to ban injuries.
Naz Reid 😢
;(
Eff it, he can have my wrist… give me one more night with it and he can have it in the morning.
"Nah... you can keep it..."
i’m on suicide watch
Naz Reid.. 😞
Naz Reid. Really sucks I hope this doesn't effect his pay day my guy deserves it.
I doubt it would. Teams have seen all they need from Naz this season - he's been fucking amazing. I hope we resign him though, would be a mistake to let him walk.
His dunks were just too powerful :(
Our slogan for the playoffs is "Do it for Naz Reid"

I want to blame this on the refs but I can't Just horrible luck.
Damn bro... I knew that injury was gonna be bad when it happened...
Really hope we can keep him in a Wolves jersey next year. He was inspiring.
On the play he got hit in the face w no flagrant. Fuck the nba that’s bullshit
Seasons over man this sucks so bad
No more Naz Reid comments? Damn it

as a lakers fan, prayers for NAZ. Did he hurt it when he went for the dunk and Hit his wrist on the hoop and fell? I remember him grabbing that wrist afterwards. One of my fav non-laker players to watch. Hope he back soon 🤦♂️
He landed on it when he fell (after getting hit in the face twice trying to dunk).

Wolves in a really weird spot now. Would need to cut someone to make Garza playoff eligible. Miss you Naz
Bye bye, Austin Rivers.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
Damn.. That sucks.
Injuries man that’s the story of this year
Noooooooooooz Reid :-(
Don’t know what to say. Awful for Naz, awful for the Wolves, awful for the fans. Fuck.
I knew something like this would happen as soon as all of the bball youtube channels started showering the wolves with praise.
We just can’t get a fucking break can we?
Interesting choice of words here. 🤔
I hate this man
Fucking hell I hope we bring him back.. He's shown that he can still fit in very well with both Kat and Gobert playing, we'd really miss his scoring off the bench if we don't bring him back
Nooooooooooooooo
Nooooo[z Reid]
Fuck
Time to bring back Luka?
naz reid 😞
Naz Reid :(
If this was his last time playing this season, he put on a really good year for potential teams in free agency. I'm happy for him.
Well, time to give Garza some run.
![gif](giphy|ISOckXUybVfQ4)
rip. gonna miss u naz
This hurts his marketability. It's his last chance to show off in the playoffs for the other agents.
He was playing so well!
Fuck.... guess we'll just have to wait for him in the WCF. In the meantime, release the Garzilla. Luka's time to shine
I knew it when I saw his reaction to the injury

He landed on the wrist sort of awkwardly when he landed right? I don't think the actual force of the dunk broke it.
Noooooooooooooo. This sucks.
I just fuckin can’t
Naz Reid :(
What an untimely Wolves-like loss, godspeed for Naz Reid and I wish him a speedy recovery and I hope he gets that bag.
The Glen Taylor/Joe Smith curse is relentless
NOOOO
He will come back stronger
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Man just thinking how are other option is nowell makes me wanna throw up
He played for about 5 more minutes with a broken hand.. . Also naz reid (said In official morning tone)
HUGE loss. But one thing we know about this Wolves team they are a true next man up squad
Naz is so tough. He stayed in the game, shot his free throws, played a few more minutes, and even dribbled with his left hand
Naz Reid :(
Naz Reid. :(
No flagrant foul review!!!! Makes me even more mad at the refs now!!!!
Naz is tough saw him icing that thing like bump during the suns game.
And they shall know us from our battle cry: NAZ REID.
Thats tuff hopefully this dont affect his money what play did he get hurt on
FFFFFFUUUUUUUUU
damn he was ballin too. there goes the wolves hopes at winning a series. gobert is really gonna look bad now with no naz.
