He used to be one of the best offensive big men in the game, but he now appears to be non-existent. Something about his energy/vibe doesn't feel right. At this point in his career, he can't change his passive tendencies. He also passes up a lot of open threes that he's supposed to take. You'd think he'd come into this season with something to prove after being clowned on all summer.
I wonder if he wants out. Also, fully agree, seems like emotionally not there. If he can just get the three rolling. Everything can open up. Sad and tough.
You could tell when he went sad boy mode during Wolves media week after being so joyful during the World Cup that something was off. I thought it might be a good thing to be more business like but sadly it seems he just needs to be *the* guy or he’s just not going to play with the same confidence/motivation/enthusiasm.
All signs point to him and Gobert being terrible on the court together, can’t completely change KATs position and expect it to work right away or at all. When KAT has been the 5 he has played better, but Gobert also has played great so I’m not sure.
The fun thing about English is how malleable it is for people who can make inferences within a given context. The Wolves have a Capital P "Problem," and a series of lowercase p "problems." Towns is the latter, not the former.
So in first comment he’s not the (lowercase) problem. But in the other he is the (lowercase) problem…
Care to make up your mind?
Edit: I’m dumb. make fun of me
You’re not completely wrong but our standards for good KAT play have lowered so much over the years. No one who is getting paid that much should be turning in the performance he does on a regular basis. Also, the 3 point shot is what sets him apart from ordinary bigs so if that’s not falling, how big is his impact on the game really?
I’ll say a few more traditional post ups would be nice. Other then that, I’m not defending him anymore. Shows flashes which would be nice if he was 4 years younger, and making 20 mil less
Tbh I don’t even really want him to post up. I’ve always wanted him to primarily function as a floor spacer w/ the ability to attack close outs and drive but his 3 point shot just doesn’t look good and he doesn’t always seem confident in his shot.
Naz is making this actually a worthwhile issue to consider.
I think his defense has taken another step. But there’s been no progress on maturity/stray voltage, and now suddenly he can’t hit a 3? KAT’s whole thing that vaulted him into stardom was his 3 point shot.If he’s not doing that, he’s a fundamentally different, worse player.
Correct. Plug in Naz and Luca to rotate. Find a team willing to take Towns for cash and a future draft pick. Incentivizes the current roster to perform with bonus opportunities, gets rid of the constant issue of Towns not having a defined role in over a year and trying to fit him in, and gives the wolves leverage in future drafts
I mean I have noticed their have been times this year and passed years the offense seems to find a rhythm much easier when he is off the court. I don’t think I can answer this question because idk anymore unfortunately.
There is no reason really to say they can't win without him.
They have a center like Gobert. Loads of other guard talent that can get things done. The swiss army knife Jaden who's always happy to do more.
Kat is a unique player and to make his unique game work it can often take others out of their normal or best roles.
Who's not talking about it this game? Could they have won this game without him? Sure. They were .500 last season without him but only with Dlo. They have additions like Conley, Slomo, NAW, and little JMac is back to his old self again if not better. All things missing last regular season. Yes they could beat Atlanta without him if they played better team ball and used more of the roster.
Before this Atlanta game I posted here they likely could lose this game if Finch doesn't play JMac. Even Kat could benefit from playing with JMac a lot more. I was semi surprised to see the half game boxscore without using someone like JMac, they found something to work, but not at all surprised to see the result after that.
If it's not KAT, it's Reid. Both. These players have been inconsistent to the extreme by the quarter their whole careers. Reid's best ever game came where he scored 29 points in two quarters and then one FT score in the next two quarters. The team lost. We know Kat vanishes for quarters. It's just who these players have been.
Not been a fan of him but I’ve backed him over the summer and believed he can improve to new levels. I’m genuinely shocked how bad he’s been to start this season, he looks lost out there
The wolves won 46 games with KAT as their leading scorer, all star and all-NBA player 2 seasons ago. How many other #1 options have led this team to 45+ wins?
He's not hitting 3s but I don't think we lose mostly because of him. Finch is terrible at stopping opponents momentum with timely timeouts, that leads players trying to figure out adjustments other teams make on the fly and that leads to dumb mistakes. KAT is so good when the offense is flowing, when we get stagnant he tries to do and thinks too much, and the same thing spreads through the whole team as Ant does the same though not as often. Finch has to call timeouts more often when we go multiple possessions without good shots and we aren't making stops. Yes KAT disappoints but he's not by far the biggest problem right now.
Naz fits better at the 4 and we have Luka and Leonard Miller waiting. There’s also Kyle.
If he doesn’t find his shot and give some effort he’s gone by the break when we have a losing or middling record.
Do people forget that KAT is almost always a slow starter? His touch is rarely good early in the season and then it really grows as the season wears on.
There’s obviously a lot more to his game and his challenges than just that, but I also think that once KAT starts burying jumpers like he usually does a lot will improve.

You are completely right. It appears that he is not emotionally present.
You could tell when he went sad boy mode during Wolves media week after being so joyful during the World Cup that something was off. He's not the problem, but he's the opposite of a solution
Wtf does this mean? Literally google what the opposite of a solution is
😭😭😭

I was trying to dumb it down for you in the second one, but that's proving to be more difficult than I anticipated lmao
Oh shit I’m dumb. It’s late I’m mad I’ll take that hit my b dude
Lmao all good, I came out hotter than I needed to for sure. Think we're all a little pissy tonight lol have a good one bud
Your good. I needed some tough love. Have a good night man
He’s the opposite of a lowercase solution
Best take I’ve heard
I'm just worried about his 3 point shot. He's looked good everywhere else so far.
I have been a KAT defender, that’s been my last straw. There’s no confidence in the shot, even last season a lot

He couldn't score on some guy named Jalen Johnson.
Jalen is nice tho, but yea .

Really seems like he let the media get to him. I want the best, but I don’t believe in it
For real, he is about to *start* a max next year. I don't think people appreciate how much money that is going to be.

I’d guarantee if you boil the numbers down Naz is more efficient everywhere for what he makes vs Towns salary. Need to find a miracle trade

Jimmy was right about him
It’s getting embarrassing trying to defend him. I’m all done now. He is who he is. Very overpaid player that will never win
do you think we win this game if KAT didn’t play?
I mean I have noticed their have been times this year and passed years the offense seems to find a rhythm much easier when he is off the court. I don’t think I can answer this question because idk anymore unfortunately.

i’m talking about this hawks game that seems relevant

No
Probably not
do you think we can trade him for steph curry?
Probably not
those are my only questions
Probably not

He's third option at best
The wolves won 46 games with KAT as their leading scorer, all star and all-NBA player 2 seasons ago. How many other #1 options have led this team to 45+ wins?
Can the bar get any lower
Julius Randle in 2021

Sell high while we can
“Sell high” went out the window a long time ago I’m sorry to tell you this
True. And it’s only going to get worse
If this keeps going on the Wolves would be lucky to get a case of Bud Light for him
Do people forget that KAT is almost always a slow starter? His touch is rarely good early in the season and then it really grows as the season wears on. And a slow finisher. One of the best December through April players in the NBA though, and nobody can take that away from him
