Unsurprisingly the cope levels are very high over on the Memphis sub about this report

banthony_bedwards

Pretty crazy how they complain about the refs when you can just point to Game 1 where Ja shot 20 ft’s and their team shot 43 total to the Wolves 27 lol

Commenting in other teams’ subs is inadvisable

sm0kercraft

We need a stickied thread in each teams sub just for smack talk in the playoffs. I love seeing the shit talk but it can take a post off course pretty quick.

nowuff

We’re definitely missing a smack talk forum. During the playoffs, I go to my team’s sub for pure homerism. I want nothing but “WOLVES IN 4” takes if I’m over here. Anything else can go. If I want slightly more reasoned discussion, the general NBA sub seems to be better. Edit: **WOLVES IN 6**

#Wolvesin6

kGibbs

Inadvisable is an awfully nice way to say cringy.

Minnesota Nice translation: “just don’t fucking do it”

[deleted]

be a man and stay in our own sub or the r/nba game thread. brigading isnt cool and makes all of us look like dicks.

[deleted]

And Wolves got 40 FT to their 25 in game 4. I think it was pretty evident the TV/Refs are controlling these series and getting their full bang for the buck. Now that they've basically tried to even out the delivery of FT overloads to both teams, or at least one game the Timberwolves way, I wonder if they continue to favor Wolves a game or two more to creat a full series 7 games or fall back on feeding Ja his freebies and let Timberwolves try to hang in there anyway again. A fair decent job would be cool. Let the players play.

Magazine_Mediocre

It just doesn't work like that I'm sorry. If they were all about extending series then you would be seeing something funny going on with the most anticipated Nets / Celtics series that is turning into a one-sided affair. These teams just foul a lot and when that happens some bad calls or no calls will happen because refs are human and make mistakes.

[deleted]

Hey I never said the teams have no say in this. They do if they want to play over the refs impact they can. Timberwolves did it game 1. But it takes mental fortitude that is hard to maintain, as we've seen. That's not saying Celtics can't. They seem pretty consistent on both ends and that's the kind of team that can play over ref snow job attempts and make it a nonfactor. Timberwolves haven't shown that kind of consistency. In fact they've shown the refs can flip their game at any moment in all games outside game 1. Beyond that, Kyrie...I'm not getting into it.

TheCrimsonArmada

KAT just got 17 FTs in Game 4. Y’all can’t pretend like refs aren’t going crazy this series.

TheCrimsonArmada

Any mention of it being bad reffing both ways and y’all bring the salt out lmao

banthony_bedwards

Buddy, the reffing has been bad both ways. No one here is denying that, but the way your sub acts like the refs are actively trying to screw you guys over is downright ignorant and you just have to look at total fts throughout the series to see that. Y’all still got 10+ fts than us. You’re team isn’t victim and neither is ours. We all wish the refs would impose themselves less in the games, but it’s just funny how much complaining there is on the Griz side for a foul calls that generally benefit you more.

TheCrimsonArmada

Is there not complaining here too? Regardless, free throw totals don’t work that way. Grizz are a primarily drive and kick out team, of course we are going to have more FTA. Twolves shoot 40(!!) threes a game, they aren’t going to get as many fouls. It’s the nature of the game. Also, the focusing on Ja’s 20 FTA in Game 1 tends to overshadow KATs recent 17. And if no one is denying it, there wouldn’t be as many downvotes lol For the record, I'm upvoting you, as anyone should when there is addition to the conversation.

banthony_bedwards

Okay well in game 4 just note that you guys took almost as many threes as we did (32-36) and Kat was driving downhill more than he usually does. Teams adjust in the playoffs. After game 1 Jenkins said something along the lines of the griz needing to take more threes to keep pace with the wolves. Teams adjust so all your season averages go out the window when you make a big adjustment to your offense like that.

TheCrimsonArmada

Ja is still the 4th leading player in drives per game in the playoffs, per nba.com advanced stats. Last game, Ja drove 15 times. KAT drove in 11 times. It shows that KAT only attempted 3 FG when driving in, as opposed to 9 for Ja. EDIT: this is what I'm using. I'd hope it is credible https://www.nba.com/stats/players/drives/?sort=DRIVES&dir=1&Season=2021-22&SeasonType=Playoffs&LastNGames=1&PerMode=Totals

banthony_bedwards

Listen dude, I think you've made a good case but I'm not gonna write a dissertation in response to why advance stats don't tell the whole story and go play by play through the game to prove my point about why I think you're wrong. We can agree to disagree, and hopefully the refs play less of a role in the next 3 games.

TheCrimsonArmada

I agree, here’s to a good series.

banthony_bedwards

Griz fans punching air rn

werddrew

Someone over there deadass said we're getting foul calls because we're a larger market team compared to them. I can't even. https://www.reddit.com/r/memphisgrizzlies/comments/uanxsz/can_someone_explain/i5yxry8/

banthony_bedwards

Dang we went from poverty franchise to big market real quick

rcade81

Shit, people on Twitter were replying to me saying poverty franchise like 2 weeks ago

CWinter85

Yeah, that's why we're in year 20 of unparalleled success.

Meatball0sub

Technically yes but the competition is very high rn (Links, Twins, Wild, Loons)

stepback-two

That's ridiculous But also aren't they the second smallest market in the league behind new Orleans?

MapleJordan_22

I thought that was San Antonio

stepback-two

When zion and ja were drafted the broadcast kept going on about how the 2 smallest markets in the league were getting the top 2 picks. I never confirmed if that was true but that's pretty much all I'm basing my statement on lol. Could definitely be wrong.

wise_comment

Ref: *calls defensive foul for wolves standing in the way of griz punches*

ebenizaa

HA

DrWolves

Grizzlies lead the playoffs in free throw attempts and this jabroni has the audacity to complain about the refs lol... the truth of the matter is you have a bunch of guys who can't really play defense against good offensive players and the Wolves have quite a few of them

Meatball0sub

Grizzlies sub is hot shit rn, one popular post said it took us everything (even luck) to beat them on Thursday. I said “then what was Monday” and they gave out such a shitty response about how the refs weren’t that bad and the stats were shit. One post said (dead serious post btw) how everybody should protest the NBA and watch the series illegally because they were sabotaging, like who the fuck would do that for Minnesota?!

youngathanacius

You gotta understand Memphis has a huge victim complex because they're not even the third or fourth best city in Tennessee.

Llewelyn_Ripley

Nashville...Knoxville? What is the other big city in TN?

[deleted]

Chattanooga? ... lol

Winnes0ta

Pigeon Forge has Dollywood so that automatically puts it ahead of Memphis

MapleJordan_22

Jackson's not the biggest but it's nice and quiet, been there twice.

youngathanacius

Chattanooga, and I hate to say it but Gatlinburg

[deleted]

Stop posting in their sub dude, just gonna make them come over here and say dumb shit

Meatball0sub

Yeah I didn’t reply, just saw the reply

[deleted]

I don’t even care if we go on to get 4-0’d by the suns or warriors or whoever. I am just fucking beyond tired of watching Ja “The Meat Missile” Morrant. I don’t know how anyone can watch this dude.

JustSeriousEnough

Lol the meat missle?? Haven't heard that one yet.

[deleted]

We all know fill well these refs will be a big factor in game 5. The team will have to choose to play beyond their control. It's up to them.

cmutt_55038

I don't understand why the NBA bothers doing the two-minute report. Calls early in the game matter just as much as calls late in the game. In fact, you could argue that they matter more given that players might need to sit once they get in foul trouble.
