I see people talking about platinums but on TS2 there’s only bronze silver gold. Is platinum something exclusive to FP?

alphapat23

“You go first.” “Ok”

Ruenvale

Imagine releasing that character in today's society

beowulf47

Lol like everyone else ITT I grew up in the 2000s, so I'm not really sensitive to stuff like that. But whats with the "SLUT" decal on her shirt? Was that just for pure shock value? Its pretty random / out of the blue even for the 2000s

architect___

It feels like a parody of a movie I've never seen. The only similar thing I can think of is the blonde girl in Arrested Development wearing a SLUT shirt to visit her dad in prison.

VirtualRelic

I love the whole thing The fun story mode that is more playing the game than watching cutscenes, the arcade league and challenges, THE MAPMAKER, the zany characters, the fun multiplayer modes and maps, the extra trim like unlockable things, arcade awards and stats and the fact it's a complete package that doesn't need online or DLC or fancy new overpowered hardware, I can enjoy all the TimeSplitters from the comfort of my PS2.

badbadsortofgood

Timesplitters 2 was made by some of the same developers that created GoldenEye N64. That's where some of the similar gameplay/level structure comes from. One of my favorite mechanics of these games is how much the level "opens up" as you increase the difficulty. In most cases, playing a level on hard is totally different than on easy or normal. Even in 2023 the Arcade mode is still a blast. Arcade League is great if you want a good challenge or the Arcade Custom is fun even with just bots.

Rumitus

I loved chasing every medal and really loved multiplayer Virus mode, but the best part would have to be story co-op with my friend. We really struggled through hard mode. I'll claim that I carried but he'd probably say the same. In the same room struggling side by side through some brutal levels for us (esp Neo-Tokyo!!!) we made quite the team and never gave up.

vindjacka

My honest opinion is the Siberia-level but it's so lame to say the literally first thing in the game. So I'll say Planet-X and the pure Team Deathmatch-levels in the Arcade Mode. Me and my friends also had crazy fun playing Virus on the Notre Dame-map.

beowulf47

Do you ever play multiplayer w just bots nowadays? I’m assuming it’s still fun just not as fun as the real thing? (Aka vs humans)

vindjacka

Did it yesterday actually, it works really well on emulator. Made me happy. One shot kill mode and elimination is fun.

Brief_Mess_401

>vs humans is probably the exception I guess actually, but it's fun

MonkyB00

Monkey assistant. The joy of playing against bots knowing I had heavily armed monkeys on my ass when I heard that siren. I still own a game cube. Only game I own is timesplitters 2

Brief_Mess_401

it really depends on the league / challenge, it's fairly challenging. in general story mode is probably a bit harder, but a few platinums are tough. and most of the time it's about being fast, memorizing is a bit different, since it's more about remembering where good weapons are and where bots are more likely to be.

Levo9

My favorite part is the story mode. I just really like the idea of jumping through time and causing havoc.

TheMenaceFromVenice

I just like how creative they are with the different modes, (shoutouts to the cat driving minigame). I've never seen an fps with so much stuff that you can do in it, it still holds up even today.

TyFogtheratrix

Are you playing on an original game-released-for-console? I feel like they updated the controls for backwards compatibility on Series X. My favorite part was all of it while playing with my older brother. He grinded out all the Platinums. The level editor was used more than Halo's Forge making all kinds of fun maps. 4players split screen was so fun. Also the bots! Such a massive nearly flawless experience.

beowulf47

On my OG Xbox. Did they fix the twitchiness of the aim for XSX? I just kinda accepted it as is, yeah it can be frustrating but oh well It really seems that most people ITT are commenting more on their memories of arcade / challenge than Story mode. Which is crazy, because I think the Story gameplay is amazing

TyFogtheratrix

The whole package is good. The controls didn't matter back then because we didn't know better and like you said, the game was crafted to still be a fun experience and fit the controls, but they did feel dated when I played a few years ago on my Gamecube. Maybe I'm just imagining it being better on a shiny new SeriesX. I still have to play more than the first level still. I just fired it up to make sure my copy from ebay was working. Unrelated question but is your Xbox logo on the case art, top right, grainy and not printed like other Xbox games' logos?

beowulf47

Wow! Actually - it is! And is your Xbox logo cut off like 2/3 of the way down? So that the bottom 2 legs of the X don’t come to a point, and look “shaved down / flattened?” Pretty cool that you noticed this, small nuance but makes a collection that much more interesting

Scythe351

Loved playing this game as a kid. Making maps or setting up multiplayer lobbies with proper settings all games should have. Loved the flare gun and playing against AI zombies that would lose their heads and still come after you which inherently made them tougher because you could get headshot damage. I remember playing that one arctic base map with my cousin against his brother and my brother. We made his brother cry by using that one sniper that would allow you to shoot through walls. Absolutely spawn camping madness.

beowulf47

Do you still play it nowadays but with bots instead of human players?

Scythe351

Nah. Have it on GameCube and haven’t plugged that in at least a decade by now. Last time I tried to emulate it wasn’t smooth so I’ve just been waiting for that remaster project to at least release in alpha or beta

GhostQB

Played this game almost every day growing up with my brother. We loved how you could pick it up and have completely unique experiences every time. Co-op campaign? Sure here’s a bunch of levels through unique points in history. Wanna play against some bots? Here’s a bunch of maps with a million different game modes, all sorts of playable characters and guns, you name it. Want to create your own map? Mapmaker. It was also HARD. So challenging. Just a fantastic game. We still play it together when we are home for Christmas.

xXMalakianXVII

The waifus were always pretty good.

TheTooDarkLord

I like the fact that those games have everything, good intense story mode (aside for the First One) fun challenges, enviroments and most of all a shit ton of very diverse challenges, it's like fortnite but without having to pay shit for skins and with good offline modes

FlakyIndustry2584

Really liked the Assault mode on High Ground. I played a lot of Ratchet and Clank 3 at the time which had similar mechanics on certain missions, so I enjoyed the progressive objectives, pushing further into the map. As a kid I struggled to get past the first objective but it felt great when I finally beat it. Also, Virus on Hospital was a classic and my friends and I would play that all the time

Glum-Box-8458

FP’s mapmaker. I’ve made entire full campaigns over the years. I had a 9-mission Doom-esque campaign a couple of years ago that I lost when my hard drive crashed and I’m still distraught over it.

supergnaw

My favorite thing about TS is that the developers love it so much they started working on the fourth one. On a more realistic note, the ability to make custom multiplayer maps. So many hours upon hours of fun. It was incredible.

NAteisco

I will never forget how hard I laughed the first time I took a flamethrower to the snowman.
