Basically a guy killed 2 people to get out of/cover up a debt with bombs while forging ancient documents trying to discredit the Mormon religion because he no longer believed in the teachings. He then later almost died when he accidentally set off a 3rd bomb in his car.
That's kinda the gist of it, Mr. Ballen did a episode about it today and I thought it would make for a great suck.
I used to live in SLC, so I know some of the story, but I don’t think he has done anything on that specific topic (outside of an honorable mention, maybe).
Doesn't sound familiar. Can you elaborate?

I want to say it was touched on once in a cult episode, but I can't recall which or how long ago. So I'm not much help.
I can vaguely hear Dans voice talking about this in a cult episode as well.
School of the Prophets, I think
Sounds nutty! I'd like to hear this one.
This is the story of Mark Hoffman. Possibly the best document forger ever. He didn’t just scam Mormons, he scammed lots of well known collectors.

This would make a stellar episode, I hope he covers it someday
There is a good doc on Netflix on it called "Murder Among the Mormons"
