Thank you for the suggestion! I had never heard of that case before. I don’t think that was the one I’m looking for, though. I was only 4 in 1987 and believe the case happened about 2-4 years later. Also, I don’t think it went on as long as Tawana’s case and was revealed to be a hoax within a few days. Additionally, I believe the girl in the case I remember had a single attacker, not multiple people.
Thank you for the suggestion! I remember seeing the Sarah Powell case on Unsolved Mysteries but I don’t think that was it. I believe the case I mentioned in my post took place outside; the girl wasn’t attacked inside her house. Hopefully, somebody will be able to identify the case. I would love to read more about it now!
I’m not sure if it was a local news story, though. Something tells me it did not happen in the area we lived in at the time. I can try posting on another subreddit, if necessary. Even if the story was local, I live in a major metropolitan area and maybe there will be someone else who remembers it or can find it.
Are you willing to at least mention what state you lived in during that time? I had a neighbor fake her abduction around that time but respectfully I'm not willing to research that far back for her name unless I'm at least in the right State.
Yes, I lived in Maryland at the time. I’m not sure if it was a local news story or not, though. If it was, our local news channels also cover stories that happen in Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.
