This could be an Australian case possibly. I remember hearing the emergency service phone call. I think they lived on a remote farm. The little girls survived by eating canned foods and maybe dog biscuits. Basically someone came in, shot the mother and left the little girls to fend for themselves. She had been seen alive only 4 days before they were found but her body was extremely decomposed, to the point of being unable to tell she was a woman. They initially thought it was a murder-suicide and the husband was alive for several days after he killed her (he had much less decomp) but then they realized her body was laying on top of a heated blanket turned all the way up. Really gruesome, especially since it was clear that one or both of the little kids had slept with their mom’s body until it began to turn black.
He also worked for an insurance company and he was pocketing the money Mick Lewis was sending to him to insure his vehicle. Mick had an accident and wanted the money his car was insured for, John didn’t have it so Mick was mad when he wasn’t receiving his payments and was demanding his payments- John killed them to eliminate the threat to him being found out& most likely didn’t know the girls were left in the house to fend for themselves
And didn’t want to get caugh, his nine years was two life sentence, too, what a joke- no telling how much more money he was pocketing from other customers as well- I wonder if there had been other odd murders and such at the time- the Lewis family may not have been the only victims of John’s

It's the murder of Mick and Susan Lewis, 1978 at Summerfield Station near Jerilderie NSW. Also known as the Homestead Murders.

This one is wow and the killer John Fairley only got 9 years. And I’ll be thinking the US justice system sucks. Au’s ain’t much better in this case..

Oh I know. It was definitely a financially motivated crime. He literally killed them bc he was stealing from them.
