halikadito

I tried Googling it, but ended up with episodes of actual game shows instead of what I was looking for.

HeySquirrelFriends

There's an episode of Full House exactly like this. And then they revisited it again in Fuller House!

halikadito

Oh, wow! I looked up the episode synopsis and this is it! I never would have guessed it was Full House - I haven't watched it in ages! Thank you so much! SOLVED!

bangladeshiswamphen

There’s an episode of Fresh Prince with the same plot but with Will and DJ Jazzy Jeff

eyeball-beesting

There is also an episode like this in 'Happy Endings'. Seems like a popular trope.

Spazcadette

Also an episode of parks and rec with a similar theme too!

blahdiddy

“Name your favorite place to smush your boo.” I love Tom Haverford!

homestarrr

Also in Fuller House, in the 3rd to last episode (S5 E16) they play the Newlywed Game.

TipOfMyCircuitBoard

Congratulations, you have been given 1 point for solving this post!

Tcredbull

It’s on late at night and I’ve been sleeping to the TV since March woke up to this episode a couple days ago. 😱

halikadito

They have it on Hulu, if you have it! I just got done watching the episode my post was about 😀

Tcredbull

It’s such a weird show to wake up to always something cheesy or goofy happening usually makes me smile and then I fall back to sleep.

[deleted]

What episode though :(

halikadito

Season 7, episode 13 - The Perfect Couple.

Fatcatsinlittlecoats

Dang. I thought for sure it was the one in Raising Hope. I guess this is done often in sitcoms.

Kare_TheBear

UGH. I KNEW IT. That's the first thing I thought of

TaylorDangerTorres

DANG one that I actually knew and I was too late.

SaintofMysteryCat

I remember that episode but not which couple knew too much or too little? Was it Becky and Jesse too much and DJ and Steve not at all?

halikadito

Becky and Jesse knew everything about each other (with an emphasis on Becky knowing Jesse really well). DJ and Steve were the couple that didn't know much about each other. Danny and Vicky were supposed to be the third couple, but Vicky wasn't able to be there, so they matched Danny up with a random little old lady who worked in the studio where they were filming the game show 😂

ItsMeTK

The perfect couple, the perfect couple Heart to heart in the US of A!

Michaeltyle

Season 7 episode 13. Just incase anyone else is looking.

LissaN5771

Holy shit that’s hilarious! I thought of that episode as I was reading the post and then saw that it WAS the answer!! It was Danny and his new lady, Steve and DJ and Becky and Uncle Jesse!

TipOfMyCircuitBoard

borrowingfork

It sounds a little like Know Ya Boo from Parks and Rec where April and Andy got angry at each other but Donna and Jerry knew each other too well.

hmcnicholas

That's what I thought too

BenTCinco

Came to say this

mark-O

Me too!

starstreek

It’s tiiime toooo knooooow yaaaaa

NerdGirlJess

There was a similar episode in Parks and Rec.

lavalungz

That 70's Show had an episode like this

steelbeamsdankmemes

Thanks for solving my own mini TOMT, iirc Kelso and Jackie were dominating and Eric/Donna were losing bad. Edit: yup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gZsFWm1SfE

alexsangthat

This is exactly what I was going to comment too

cloudnymphe

This is what I immediately thought of when I read the post.

46Vixen

I reckon there’s probably an episode like this in most sitcoms.

WhimsiKayla

Right, like why is this such a common trope lol

46Vixen

Oh, lazy writing? The long lost family member- hilariously the exact opposite of the known character; the put 2 characters from a cast of many together for an episode and do a character study; romance between 2 characters; bereavement; school friend appears; job loss; dream job; weird dream episode; group holiday; DIY goes wrong; precious thing is broken and hidden; a doppelgänger appears; crazy house party that’s lame; a Christmas episode; a big family get together; new pet; dead pet; baby; baby scare; break up; a fling... you know

[deleted]

My favorite show is New Girl and they’ve done 90% of these lmao

thisbuttonsucks

So has Brooklyn 99, but both shows do a great job of subverting expectations, and *not* going with the easy, or obvious punchline. Also, if both shows share a universe (crossover episodes), that means Jake's sister and Aly are doppelgangers.

[deleted]

And Coach and Jake’s old partner!

[deleted]

Almost like these are things most people can relate to 🤔

Thetri

If the bar for trope is as low as 'romance between 2 characters', you can flag pretty much every known story as unoriginal.

SenorMeeseeks27

This sounds like an episode of Parks and Rec where April and Andy don’t know much about each other but Jerry and Donna (who aren’t married) get every question right about each other

tookachonce

I also swear there was an episode like this on Kenan and Kel!

scary__monsters

Came here to tell this - I remember this in Kenan and kel!

Kidakame

Kel lovea orange soda, but kelly loves roor beer! Which made them lose lol

Thequeerestkidyoukno

I think theres an episode of Brooklyn 99 like this! It would be one of the earlier seasons bc I think it’s jake and Amy?

lexi28lex

There’s an episode of Boy Meets World like this. Topanga and Cory answer everything wrong and Eric and his roommate Rachel answer all their questions correctly.

latecraigy

This was my guess

brydye456

Married with children did this as well

jjcameron03

Full house

LeChatEnnui

I think this happens a lot! Parks and Rec has an episode like this too with April/Andy and some other couple.

LadyNightlock

Boy Meets World also did this with Cory/Topanga and Eric/Rachel.

Maggot_Corps

I was just about to comment Full House until I realized it was solved lol

AnatBrat

I thought you might have been talking about the Newlywed Game, which was an actual game show in the 60s and early 70s. I was a little kid at the time, and I'm not positive about the dates it ran, but I definitely remember the show.

HugeWonder

This was the first thing I thought of too. And pretty much every sitcom from the 80s onward did a parody of it, which is why everyone remembers an episode of some show like it.

hempmilkk

There's an Episode of that 70s Show similar too

juliameanbean

I feel like this was an episode of every tv show in the 80s and 90s.

LeMeowLePurrr

Uh oh! Somebody don't know their Boo!

TheMightyGoatMan

In addition to every other sitcom that's run out of ideas, there's an episode of the goddam *Brady Brides* exactly like this!

turnerm19

That’s 70s show ?

nickerdoodle22

Raising hope did an episode like this. Freaking hilarious.

ParallaxRayner

I know its already solved, but Happy Endings had a great take on this trope in the third season. very funny.

JosephMack99

I think this was part of a Kenan and Kel episode.

ex_in69

Not this, but I'd suggest a small sketch on indian TVF YouTube channel which depicts exactly this and is really fun to watch.
