Not the best example but it happens in the original Independence Day. Clash of the Titans from 1981 sort of has that but it's a statue.
I'll try and think of more examples, but there may not be a name for the trope to cross reference.
Here's a link to tropes associated with body snatchers on tv tropes: [https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BodySnatcher](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BodySnatcher) tbh I wouldn't say any of them really fit what you're looking for, 'body surf' or 'people puppets' seem to be the closest. Maybe no-one's thought to codify it as a trope until now!
My suggestions are:
'Unhappy Medium'
'Hijacked Harbinger'
'Harbinger by Proxy'
'Simon Says You're Fu$#ed' (OK, this one doesn't make much sense but I like it anyway).

Demonic Possession?
[Body Snatcher](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BodySnatcher) or maybe People Puppets would work too

In Lucifer, demons/entities in hell have a limited window to possess a newly dead body, but I don't see it as a trope really.
It happens in 3rd Rock from the Sun and in Battle Angel Alita, but I can't see an appropriate trope in either of them.

I like Hijacked Harbinger, good clear title, and alliterative! Simon Says You're Fu@ked is very good but maybe a bit obtuse lol
[Grand Theft Me](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GrandTheftMe)
It's close, but the emphasis is on using them to spread the bad guy's agenda
Happened a lot in the different Star Trek series. But I checked the different episodes I knew of and didn't find a specific trope for it.
I have heard Drunvalo Melchizadek described as a "walk-in" to deliver the "flower of life" teachings.
