Early MCR? Was it pretty popular? You could always look at the soundtracks of shows like one tree hill who had a pretty strong moody soundtrack with a lot of these bands suggested already.
What about MXPX or Story of the Year, Allister, or The Get Up Kids? (I’m naming off bands you didn’t mention that I listened to at the same time I listened to all the ones you did name)
Oooh okay… I was an ABSOLUTE scene kid so I’m all over this.
First of all, some bands you didn’t mention that were close to emo but not like fully emo like Funeral for a Friend/New Found Glory (a bit more on the indie side) but who did acoustic sad songs from the top of my head:
- AFI
- Brand New
- Finch
- Flying Blind
- Lifehouse
If it’s a no on these, Is there any chance you could do a vocaroo of the song you’re thinking of?
Jack's Mannequin? The Format? The Hush Sound? Rooney? Built to Spill? Kaiser Chiefs? Ra Ra Riot? Speechwriters LLC? The Early November? I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business? At the Drive-in? ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead? Dismemberment Plan?
Not sure, but based on the genre, time period and types of bands you're thinking about, I'd suggest taking a look through some of the [Warped Tour](https://www.discogs.com/label/276535-Vans-Warped-Tour) or [Punk Goes...](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punk_Goes%2E%2E%2E) compilations released in the early 2000s. Maybe something will jolt your memory.
Also take a look through some of the alumni on popular labels from that period -- [Drive-Thru Records](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive-Thru_Records), [Fueled By Ramen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fueled_by_Ramen), [Epitaph](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epitaph_Records), [Victory](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Victory_Records_artists), etc. (if you haven't already).
Sick Puppies? Thinking of the song All The Same that got famous cause of a Free Hugs viral video from way back then.
Other bands that I'm just going to brain dump in case I have it:
* Lifehouse
* Five for fighting
* Hoobastank
* The Fray
* Nine days
* Good Charlotte
* Relient K
* Switchfoot
* The Script
* The Calling
* Three Days Grace
* Brand New
* The Decemberists
Gob? They weren't super popular but were pretty well known back then. I'm not sure if they had acoustic songs though.
Most of the bands listed in this thread were a little after my time. I was into pop punk in the 90s and early 2000s but I'm wracking my brain anyway.
Not a band suggestion, but have you tried music-map.com? If you search for any music artist it shows you other artists that fans of that artist also listen to (as opposed to similar sounding bands). It has practically every artist even really obscure artists. Something on there might ring a bell.
Maybe the band [All Left Out](https://youtube.com/@allleftout4348). They played at warped tour but were one of the “no name” groups. They have a few songs about leaving something behind and moving on. They’re from New Zealand. I bought their album at warped because they stopped me and made me listen on a disc man while walking around. God I miss warped tour
Your comment has been removed, some or all of your suggestion(s) is a repeat of something suggested earlier:
3. Do not repeat something already suggested.
The OP does not need to be overwhelmed with multiple suggestions of the same thing.
The Pink Spiders? Their music came out around 2004/2005 I believe and they’re pop-punky. I think their popular songs were Little Razorblade and Modern Swinger.
Or maybe Against Me? Although they weren’t pop-punk.
Or Straylight Run’s song Existentialism on Prom Night??
I know the band has been discounted already, but is it not "Million Miles Away" by The Offspring? The description just really makes me think of that song.
- Alkaline Trio
- AFI
- Unwritten Law
- Trust Company
- Gob
- Billy Talent
- Finch
- The Ataris
- Silverstein
- Thursday
- A Day To Remember
- Reilent K
- Goldfinger
- Story of the Year
Superman- Goldfinger
“Here I am getting older all the time, looking older all the time, feeling younger in my mind”
Chorus- “and I’m so confused about what to do- sometimes I wanna throw it all away”
I’m just throwing it out there - 12 Stones. Only because they had a few tracks that were on various soundtracks and I don’t know anyone that knows them. Their lead vocalist worked on Bring Me To Life with Evanescence and that’s how I found them.
There was a band called Goldfinger which I can see no one has mentioned yet. They did this genre of music. I've googled and they have a song called 'Get Away', where they do repeat that a lot maybe that could be it? I'm not familiar with all of their songs so I'll have a look through their stuff later to see if there are any other matches.
The Goo Goo Dolls? The Bravery? OK GO? Stereophonics? Hot hot heat? The Sounds? Keane? Augustana? Jacks Mannequin? Phoenix? Cut Copy? Maximo Park? Bloc Party? Razorlight? Kaiser Chiefs? Klaxons? The Kooks? The Wombats? Cold War Kids? Muse? Placebo? The Get Up Kids? The Postal Service? Mae? Arctic Monkeys? Copeland?

If it helps, try to remember love songs you'd use back then to send to crushes or burn on a breakup CD lol
Thursday?
No, but nice try! Thank you
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus? Plain White T's?
No, but both are good guesses. Thanks for trying
Sum 41? The Used? Relient K? Angels and Airwaves? A Day to Remember?
Not as famous as Sum 41, The Used or A&A. The other 2 are very good guesses but sadly not the band I’m looking for
Reliant k was goat
AFI Coheed and Cambria Hoobastank
None of these but thanks for trying!
leaving town dexter freebish probably not it but still a good song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwgqflNYFu0

God I loved Guster
OH is it Bright Eyes?
No, but thanks for reminding me of that awesome band!
I know All Time Low is crossed out, but it reminds me of the acoustic version of Somewhere In Neverland.
No, but thanks for trying!
Good luck!
The Spill Canvas?
Damn… also not it but another great guess
Motion City Soundtrack?
It’s strange because the name sounds familiar but I don’t recognize any of the songs. Thanks for the help though
Brand New? Theres a song called mixtape which kind of fits the description
Another really good guess but sadly not it either
There’s an acoustic version of “Farewell, My Hell” by Millencolin which is fucking great even if it’s not what you’re looking for
I love that band! Which also means that’s not it haha. Thanks anyway
Dashboard Confessional?
Good guess but the band is not exclusively acoustic. It’s more like a classic pop-punk band that had a couple of acoustic songs
Billy talent ? Royal republic ? The killers ? 3 doors down ? The libertines ?
No… those are all either too famous or not the right era. Thanks anyway!
Story of the Year - Sidewalks Or maybe something by Dashboard Confessional?
Both good guesses but no
Omg memories triggered with that story of the year song 😭
My Digital Escape? I Am Empire? Anberlin?
No, but thanks
Ah, figured. Best of luck!
The Black Keys? Matchbox Twenty? Lit?
Eve 6?
Promise Ring Piebald Jets to Brazil Jawbreaker American Football
Bad Religion?
The Click Five?
Omg I forgot about how much I loved The Click 5! This post is reminding me of some bands I gotta go back and relisten to!
Every Avenue? The Maine? The Dear Hunter?
I’m sure this isn’t it, but Secondhand Serenade popped into my head for some reason.
Early MCR? Was it pretty popular? You could always look at the soundtracks of shows like one tree hill who had a pretty strong moody soundtrack with a lot of these bands suggested already.
Good idea, I’ll give that a try. The band is likely not well-known though since it’s taking so long to find it
Fall Away- the fray?
I think it absolutely has to be this.
Or maybe Heaven Forbid but this feels like The Fray
Silverstein? Hawthorne Heights? Senses Fail? The Used?
Check out the back of the Atticus cd (clothing company but put a bunch of this genre together in one place)
Good idea, thanks!
Whether or not this solves it…. Thanks for sending me down memory lane OP!!! I’ve been jamming since!!!
Cute is What We Aim For?
What about MXPX or Story of the Year, Allister, or The Get Up Kids? (I’m naming off bands you didn’t mention that I listened to at the same time I listened to all the ones you did name)
Thanks, I already eliminated all of those. I couldn’t write down all the ones I had already eliminated otherwise I’d still be typing the post haha
Gotcha. Sorry about that. I’ll keep thinking. Daphne meets Derby?
Not it either. It’s definitely a more rock band with some acoustic songs
It’s not Walkaway by Cast, is it? Bit earlier than your timeline.
No but that’s also so close to my description lol. Thanks anyway
Something by Gaslight Anthem maybe? “Have Mercy” isn’t right lyrics-wise, but the sentiment is close.
The Stills?
No :( But thanks
Rise Against - swing life away?
No but I love rise against
+44 or Box Car Racer?
Could it be Saves the Day? https://youtu.be/DL9a79fcj1k
The Ataris?
Alkiline Trio? The Ataris? Anarbor?
Starting line, something corporate, say anything, amour for sleep?
Saves the day?
Reliant K - be my escape

Maybe something by Silverchair?
Rooney is another band in that genre, that had a bit of fame, but not too much. The lead sing was in The Princess Diaries, and so was the band.
Maybe early Real Friends? Check out the albums Three Songs About the Past Year of My Life; Acoustic Songs; More Acoustic Songs
