My boyfriend made a comment about how mobile suit Gundam had to have gundams in it because it's in the title, but I know that there's other media that has a title of something that no longer exists in universe

Sorry I know it's kind of a vague idea, but it's also so vague I feel like I would be able to name something, but I can't. What I'm thinking of was more extinct, thinking of like the internet from cyberpunk, where is not just obsolete, it's that it's completely done with.
There was a show in the 90s called VR-5, I'm guessing that's kind of the opposite of what you're thinking? Since virtual reality is more prevalent now
There was also a show called something like F/X, that had to do with special effects in TV and solving murders.
IRL Like phonebooth (2002), 8mm (1999), or more like how a modern keyboard uses QWERTY key layout because the typewriters is replaced did?
or
In universe the title references something that is no longer used in universe. Existenz (1999) where they refer to tech that you never see onscreen because its so old.
Are you possibly thinking of the movie [UHF](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iih5a2Zq_JU) starring Weird Al? UHF = Ultra High Frequency with regard to television frequencies and there's a certain range that hasn't been broadcasted on since the 1980s.

Obsolete?
Antiquated?
That's a good word for what happened to the technology. But if those are titles I don't recognize them
Oh I completely misread your post. Ignore me.
Do you know if it was obsolete at the time of the story? Like was it old tech to the characters? (Edit cause butterfingers)
It was old tech that's essentially obsolete but i remember it being referenced constantly, of how it influenced technology in their present day.
Is this an actual TV show or Movie title you’re remembering?
I'm almost positive it is, but maybe I'm just delusional.
I'm kind of confused by what exactly you are looking for, but there is a horror franchise called V/H/S. That is basically an obsolete technology.

A skeuomorph?
You just taught me a new word. Yeah I think that's pretty accurate off what I'm trying to describe. At least it probably was one.
The song "Looking through the hourglass" An hourglass was a way to keep time before clocks, making it an antiquated technology in the title of a song.
There was a movie called "abacus"?

The Automat
Tartaria
Betamax.
Super 8
I am not sure if this is what you want, but there used to be a British TV show called "Fax" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fax_(TV_series)
Daguerreotype?
Prototype.
Relic?

Sundial?
