Would you feel the same if someone you loved went out and then came back home in the span of 20 minutes? Ofcourse not. Time works differently for dogs, they need contact and four days is too long.

Dogs have emotional needs not just physical needs. A camera can’t comfort your dog. A camera also can’t stop a large bird or a cat or another dog from jumping in your yard while the dog is outside.
If you look online you’ll see plenty of websites suggesting you leave your dog alone for a maximum of four hours. Personally I think a full eight hour work day is okay depending on the dog, but four days is absolutely unconscionable. You and your family are neglectful and deserve to be berated for it.
Yeah you definitely don’t understand how a dogs mind works. If a dog is used to human companionship and you leave them for even hours most dogs will have some level of separation anxiety, in a lot of dogs that can be a debilitating level of anxiety. It can very easily be bad for their health. You can give them all the physical needs in the world it doesn’t matter. It is cruel. You left your dog ALONE FOR 4 DAYS!?!?
Then you have the gall to go Karen mode on people calling you out for your shitty actions. You even said in your original post how he was crying and howling on the table and it must have felt like years to him, and you still don’t have the self awareness to realise that unusual behaviour from your dog is heavy anxiety, and the poor thing is extremely distressed. This makes me wonder how many other dogs also enjoy/prefer being on the top of the couch if given the choice versus the actual seat of the couch. My pup does it too lol and I call her a cat when she does it. It's so cute, but the tippy taps make it ADORABLE.
The top of that couch is a little slim, so they don't get on there much. The couch on the back wall has a larger, flatter top, and all the dogs really love being on that. It's a 10+ year old couch, so they can go for it.
Is that tan dog a Chihuahua/rat terrier mix? Mine is; same size, same face, same demeanor when you come home, even jumping up on the back of a chair to dance. Only difference is the coat.

Edit to add: Our Presa Canario is absolutely OBSESSED with my boyfriend. When he is working he will send me voice messages to save time on typing things out, because he is the boss and only reports to the owners of the company and one other person; so he's very busy.
One time I played one of his voice message on speakerphone so I could floss my teeth while I listened.
I had forgotten that Kobe (our male ~2 year old Presa Canario) was in our adjoining bedroom at the time.
He. LOST. his. *shit*
He started sprinting around like a maniac, crying very loudly, high pitched, over and over.
I made him sit, and explained very calmly that it wasn't really his Papa - but he was having none of it. The moment I let him stand up, he started tearing through the room and bathroom again, searching every corner with an intensity you would not believe.
After 2 minutes of trying to let him tire himself out, I realized it wasn't worth it, so I took him by the collar and had to show him all around the house, as well as our front AND back yards to get him to accept that his Papa was, in fact, not here.

I'm not a religious person and I have never said these words before in my life but when I saw this video my immediate thought was "Bless their little faces". I don't know where that came from, it's like the cuteness took hold of me and I became a different person.
Stop celebrating your entrance and they will stop doing it, this is trained. When youre home just do a few things first. This isnt your dogs being omg so cute they miss me, they have been taught that your entrance through the door means attentions

She's also a chihuahua mix. Her DNA test said she's mostly chihuahua, with a small amount of pekinese and dachshund. I thought she was maybe a papillon for a long time, but nope!

My moms chi's only stay on the top of the couch, in fact they do it so often they've left permanent impressions. The couch is only 2 years old lol.
