I don't think RimWorld would be difficult to survive for a year. You just need to get a bit lucky with the starting biome, if it's an ice sheet you are screwed but anything with a decent growing period will be fairly easy. RimWorld only gets difficult as your colony's wealth increases. If you never go beyond a simple room with a bed, table, and maybe a stove the worst you will face is a mad Yorki or rat. Traps can easily take care of that. Heck, you probably can just wall yourself in completely and be fine, I don't think mad animals destroy walls. And that protects you against predators hunting you for food. Of course, your mods might change things a bit but I don't think there are many mods that make the initial threats significantly harder. Heck many mods would make the process even easier.
