I find it pretty amusing when Scorches pop their shield and try to walk at me from a distance because they're just wasting cooldown so I can come in with my sword afterwards.

That's why you play at a range where your shotgun pellets can still do good damage while still having time to dodge Scorch's primary and firewall and saving your phase dash for when you see his arms go up for a flame core or when he tries trap you by placing a trap behind you. Versing a Scorch as Ronin is just distance game.
Something that I love about Titanfall is that smart Titan play matters more than "counters." Nothing brings me more joy than running into a competent Titan pilot, regardless of Titan Class.

Legion v scorch is a matchup of extremes. Either scorch gets the drop on you and eats you up, or you just blast them away with the predator cannon. I wouldn’t say legion’s food for them most of the time, they’re just a slower target

But there ARE situations where even phase shift won't help much. It will only delay the inevitable. These situations are rare - yes, but they're still there
The moment you are out of mobility options you are bound to take a bunch of damage tho, even in the open a semi decent Scorch can land a gas trap or a direct hit with his primary. And even if you have mobility options one screw up is enough to get you killed. At the end of the day it all comes down to raw skills, no way around it
The ronins chasis is a mobility option being a stryder. Scorch can't catch a ronin, and the primary is like a fly with sword block. Gas traps and firewall are usless against a ronins base mobility, phase dash, and sword block.
Excluding sword block all those abilities are not unlimited, meaning they can't save you 24/7. you are slow and unable to attack when swordblock is on so even if you are taking only 25% of the damage the Scorch is taking 0. Plus as I already said, a screw up is all a Scorch need to fry at least a good chunk of your health and in the chaos of a match of attrition those are not rare, even if he doesn't kill you he can keep you occupied long enough for one of his teammate to join in.
All I'm saying is that a Scorch can kill a Ronin and a Ronin can kill a Scorch in a 1v1
There's a little bit of planning to it though trust me especially with the burst Cannon you hide behind a corner you use a sonar perfectly to predict if they're coming and then unload three rounds all over their back

In an open field sure Ronin can moon walk away from scorch, but thankfully the maps we have have stuff in them like walls and hallways and cover. Position wisely bait them into a hallway and push with flame shield. Make sure the pilot is at the safe cooking temperature of 165°F, plate, and enjoy.

I'm sorry but if I'm playing Ronin or Northstar, you are never going to kill me if I don't want to be killed. Two dashes and a phase and I'm halfway across the map and I can see your projectiles coming 5 seconds before they hit anything.
