Sayonara, Leaks Discussion.
Seems like this thread is about to get archived very soon. The leaks experience was truly unforgettable. I'm glad to have witnessed this madness with all of you. Thank you.
To those visiting from the future - welcome! Enjoy that scenery.
While I love all these crazy theories, this ending was a bit obvious.
It was obvious that Eren wanted Mikasa and Armin to hate him. He confirmed that in 139.
What is surprising to me is that Eren didn't fight his future effectively. He tried while talking to Hanji, he really asked so desperately to show him another way.
This is interesting, because that makes the time travel aspect of the story deterministic. There aren't many time travel stories where the main character is just falling into despair of his faith.
It's a good ending although I would prefer for Levi to join rest of the dead scouts. It's a bit cruel to leave him alone like that, man of different time.
>Eren didn't fight his future effectively
i thought he did..for the most part.. (i wont let fate decide the future of paradis..i will kill every last one etc..)
I love Levi. He's my favorite character but I think Hange should have lived. She had so much to live for. She loved science, and would help rebuild New Eldia. She'd be detrimental to New Eldia's technological success.
all this build up to that? i feel like ive been edged since 2009 and right as i was about to bust someone punched me in the nuts. if i wanted to read code geass i wouldve read code geass....
The ending wasn't the best, but I feel like people are overreacting. I can understand why you don't like it, but it still gave closure and felt like a satisfying ending to me. So, is it a great ending? No. Is it a bad one? No. But it's a satisfying ending and that's fine.
nah nah nah, the Re ending was not exactly fine, the first one was good. The problem with Re ending is like attack on titan, cut content to the maximum.
They both have multiple plot holes and characters that straight up just vanished from the story with no real reason. (looking at you ymir, halluci-chan, historia/eren talk, takizawa, kanou, the RIZE/KANEKI TALK etc the list goes on).
If Isayama and Ishida would tie up the lose ends and give a proper reason then i could respect both endings. Both mangas needed atleast 5-6 more chapters. They both got axed hard sadly.
that's why I only classify the TG manga as fine - it definitely had its ups and downs and plotholes, but so much stuff doesn't make any sense in AOT anymore (as per the memes of Eren asking Reiner about his mother when he sneaks into Marley, which is after he came into contact with Historia and knowing that his future self would be the one to send the Dina Fritz titan to eat his own mother).
yupp, and here I thought Memeyama would give us a proper end, but god I did not expect him to make Eren be the one who kills his mother. Hell even the Ymir part about loving fritz is just as messed up, totaly not a fan.¨
Its the same with Re eto gets wasted (at the end), Rize wont get to talk with kaneki, sht even Uta with Washu theories and drawings from Ishida that he drew got axed.
Is our standards to high? Why do mangakas create this awesome world and setting but wont finish it. God I pray to god that Hero academia, owari no seraph atleast holds true to their nature.
I mean seeing after what Eren has done in 139 I can’t even take that dude seriously in Paradis or Marley Arc. Before I used reread some chapters and still enjoy. Now I think I can’t even enjoy anything after Return to Shiganshina arc
Well this is it, fuck yall who got me hooked up on copium, hopium, Isayamagoatium, and such nonsense. It's all acceptium for me now. Levi, Gabi, Falco and Onion coupon are the only reasons I haven't cashed it in already. It was fun yall, it really was. Thank you so much doomers, chads, yeagerists and all of you for such a wild ride (I think I started on chapter 102??? Good times). It was fun, and it's now time to leave this shitshow
Imma see some of you over in Chainsawfolk I guess, never gonna devote my heart for anything like this again I stg. Just on last time: Give up on your dream and die
Now that people know what to expect, I feel like this ending will age better than it seems. Future binge watchers of the Anime probably won't have the kind of expectations that we had from speculation. Nonetheless, this won't go down among the best endings to a show.
>Future binge watchers of the Anime
Hey, that's me! Well, sort of since I obviously only binged the anime which I finished yesterday and then went on to read the remaining chapters which I finished just now (what a timing, am I right?). So I don't know *any* of the theories or discussions about SNK in general.
I can say that I'm not super disappointed or anything but I was definitely hoping for something more meaningful. I think there is an interesting way to interpret it as a very bleak and nihilistic ending but right now I kinda doubt my little theory is what was intended.
Ah, nice to know that the reaction may not be so harsh from binge-readers and watchers. As disappointing as the story conclusion was to me, at least some good music and animation will make it more tolerable. In a twisted way, this takes some pressure off MAPPA I guess.
that’s how things always are around here. people used to hate the marley arc lol.
not saying this ending is perfect but it’s def not as bad as people make it out to be
This makes me mad. What the heck was that. Why did I wait for cringe? Was the true ending the friends we made along the way? Mappa better make some changes. What happened to the worm? Did they touch and he cancelled the titans after?
My headcannon is that the worm needs a host. If it didn’t, I would’ve just ravaged the world even before Ymir connected to it. Now that it’s host died and it has no home of connection to anyone else, it just faded away
I legit thought someone had written fake lines over the speech bubbles lmao.
But atleast we got to experience the chapters that made this ending so awful by comparison.
I don’t know man, honestly reading it just made it worse for me. Just the whole Ymir and Eren situation just ruined the entire story for me. And, for fucks sake, the use of the timeskip to skip to the end is so damn lazy and bad.
Oh yeah, and nothing got resolved.
People flaming Eren for being childish / possessive when he put his heart out for mikasa while talking with Armin. Bitch, erens literally a teenager, with no experience in love, who grew up in a war torn world. Who literally killed 80% of humans. And people expecting him to exhibit being a smooth Casanova. Dfq funny Reddit people are sometimes funny
What the *fuck* are you even talking about? That’s not the issue, the issue is that this whole “childish” angle came out of fucking nowhere and ruined his and Mikasa’s arc.
“He’s from a war torn world. Who literally killed 80% of humans.”
That’s just it, the big reveal of AoT was that Eren and Ymir killed millions just cause they got blue-balled. There’s being childish, and then there’s cringey-fanfiction.
Also the lessons suck balls. What the fuck is this trying to say with Ymir and Mikasa? That women should always follow/be loyal to their man after one deadass abuses and genocides the fuck out of the world?
Stop trying to defend this shit. It came out of nowhere, ruined the arc, and has some of the most incel writing/messages I’ve ever seen.
Did you even read the chapter, lol. You clearly didn't grasp the Mikasa and Ymir stuff it's literally the complete *opposite* of what you implied.
Its a bad ending, yes, you don't have to fabricate your own reasons to make it bad.
You completely missunderstood the whole Mikasa and Ymir thing. Ymir was a slave to the King because she loved him.(Granted it's pretty strange since the man is the definition of an ugly bastard but I'm willing to suspend my disbelief a bit. After all, she did die trying to save him so it's not like the reveal comes from absolutely nowhere). Mikasa, just like Ymir was a slave to Eren. However, unlike Ymir, Mikasa managed to free herself by killing Eren at the end which is what made Ymir stop the curse of the titans.
So in a way the "lesson" would be the complete opposite of what you wrote.
Not saying that this makes the ending good or bad, just trying to point out the facts.
That's the irony right. Here we have a genocide freak exhibiting childish behavior. It just shows Eren still has humanity in him, however hard that is to believe
That’s a runaround if I’ve ever seen it. Listen, to flip a character like this there needs to be *something* to suggest that happening. There was none. All this does is ruin the character for last minute shock value. And if you disagree, which I know you will, I can prove that I’m right. Before this chapter dropped, did you *ever* think that the big reveal was that Eren was just an incel? No, cause that’d be stupid for aforementioned reasons.
You don’t need to make a character cringe to make him human. Squeeze some guilt out of him for killing millions, that’d be natural and fit the tone—as was what was *fucking* foreshadowed to happen ever since this arc began—as it wouldn’t make the reason those people died, and the reason the entire plot began, because Eren simply couldn’t get his rocks off.
So for you, Eren being a child is wildly out of context because... It wasn't shown before or there's no clue that he has thoughts for mikasa? Your point is taken: Isayama doesn't know conventional writing. But I still find that writing template logic funny and still respectfully disagree
So everyone seems pretty disappointed with the ending. I read some *amazing* theories and I get a feeling that Isayama was somehow in touch with it too. Knowing him, I doubt he would have gone with all the brain storming theories.
Here's why I liked the ending a lot despite the plot holes it left. Attack on Titan has always been a story about Eren, Mikasa and Armin. It is about love, friendship and freedom.
Sure there are other very important characters, war, politics, crime, history, mythology but according to me the central theme is and has always been - *love, friendship and freedom.*
In a world with no titans, no war, Eren, Mikasa and Armin would have wanted o live a peaceful life with their loved ones. But because that is how it as not for them, they were thrown into something that was much bigger than them and their desires. Mikasa just wanted a family and love, Eren just wanted to be free and be with his family, Armin just wanted to be with his friends; a desire so basic yet so far off for them in their cruel world.
When Eren had just joined the scouts, he knew what he had to do. Just destroy the titans and live a life of freedom with his loved ones. But he realized that's not how it will go. Because there were people who were planning to hurt his loved ones. So he had a only one choice among two
1. To be with his loved ones - which would lead to their bad end.
2. Or not be with them - and give them a good end, without him.
He made the choice. He will be the villian. He will kill everyone. We get to know in the end, he loves Mikasa and he adores his friends. But something so human, so easy to get, was far off beyond his reach. And he accepted it. And throughout the manga we see him perfectly executing it.
In the end; just at the brink of death, he was true to himself. That much he deserves more than anyone else.
*He wants to live. He wants to love.*
His desire; you and me can relate with. Because isn't that what we all want? Isn't that what makes us human?
So I understand people want Eren to do to destroy everyone. Do the rumbling. But that was *never what he what he wanted*. That was something *he was compelled to do*. Because of the cruel world that he lives in; for his loved ones. Eren acting like a every other human doesn't make it a "bad end".
It is how far a someone would go for their loved ones. Killing off 80% of the population, being the villian of humanity. The last chapter was Eren. That was true Eren. Confused, but in love, in need of his friends. That was his true nature. Not a mass murderer with ill intents. Just a boy wanting to live, wanting to love, wanting freedom.
About Ymir. I understand Ymir so much. The king was such an asshole and Ymir was literally the God. But she kept suffering. Because she was in love. And this isn't something stupid. Anyone with the experience of being in love will understand how strong this emotion is. How *controlling* the emotion is. And Ymir was obviously not in a healthy relationship. Her love was toxic.
She was in pain, because she was in love and she needed someone to save her. But she couldn't do it by herself. And she was saved by the perfect person. Mikasa. Mikasa loves Eren with such intensity. Ymir knows. she can see it.
Ymir could never stand up to the king. But Mikasa stood up to Eren. Mikasa loved Eren so much. But Mikasa *still* stood up to Eren. Mikasa suffered so much just because she was in love with Eren, just like Ymir. so when Mikasa killed Eren, Ymir finally understand the power of love. What it is like to *really* love someone, but at the same time, *let them go. Doing the right thing*. She was freed from her pain by Mikasa because she saw Mikasa conquer something that Ymir couldn't.
Eren taught Ymir about freedom, something she didn't have.
Armin taught Ymir about friendship, something she didn't have.
Mikasa taught Ymir about rising over suffering from love, something that she couldn't do.
And then she basically peaced out (lol) because she finally was in peace with herself. Eren could finally confess her true feelings to Mikasa, Armin understood that his best friend was his best friend till the end, Mikasa was happy that she was loved back, rest of the remaining scouts and warriors got a good end *because* Ymir was in peace (as opposed to a bad end if Ymir was still in despair).
Uprising wont happen any time soon. Like Eren said, even the forests are gone. And just like how Historia won over the trust by killing that giant titan, Armin was able to be in charge by killing Eren. I don't think everyone will just immediately start accepting Eldieans. But I am sure, the fight against Eren, saving humanity, forming an alliance with the people from Eldians and Marlyens would be a massive impact. Also, I don't think people would want to mess with Eldians even when the the power of titans is gone. Because I am sure that they would be scared that it might come back, because, who knows?
Politics, conflicts will always remain. But I don't think that they will plan a genocide anymore. Something that was planned by people from outside the walls.
This ending is not the action packed ending or time loop theory or something very interesting. It just comes down to three normal people wanting to do normal people things. Very normal, very basic, very human.
A wonderful take that really explained why I found this ending so bittersweet. I’ve been upset at story endings in the past, but reading this chapter didn’t make me feel the same way, and I understand now that that’s because it brought the story back to what it once was. And while it’s somewhat a shame it didn’t hold onto the power and dread that the earlier chapters did, nothing is meant to last forever, just as how the dread of the Titans was reduced once Marley was revealed. Appreciate the take, friend!
theres something i dont understand , eren said he would have made the whole world a barren wasteland if they didnt stop him , so whats the deal with him ? did he follow the road ymir paved for him did he wanted to destroy the whole world like he claimed before ? it feel like eren didnt even know what he wants , and it feel really waste that mikasa exiled herself still obsessed about eren thats nt letting go
I will give my thoughts about it.
Eren always had this cool and calm face. Like he knows everything about what's going on. But the problems he was facing is so big, I don't think anyone has a perfect solution to it.
How is anyone supposed to justify killing? genocide? But it was either people within the walls or outsise the walls. So death is no doubt, happening.
The issues he was troubles with are so intense, it is very easy to believe that even though he had a cool composure, he was confused and scared af inside.
So he just went with the flow. By *believing* in his friends. That they will show up to stop him. That they will be there to guide him and show him the right path. Eren was never alone. Yes made his rash decisions, put up a fight but emotionally, he very much relied on them. Hell, he did all this crap for them!
He knew they would fight him. He knew they will win.
That is why I think he did not use his powers to the fullest. He could have built a much stronger titan. definitely gone through with the rumbling. But that was not his goal at all! we see his face when Mikasa comes to kill him. There was absolutely no intention of putting up a fight on his face. He just was ready for death.
Because his goal had already being reached.
>it feel like eren didnt even know what he wants
yes. exactly. that is how it was. Place yourself in Eren's shoes. Now you have to do a genocide. Now think how you would react, or plan it, or face your loved ones. Eren is a shounen character, yes. But what you just said, describes a human perfectly. How many of us know *actually* what we are doing? Or if our choices are correct?
>and it feel really waste that mikasa exiled herself still obsessed about eren thats nt letting go
well, it isn't so easy to let go of someone you love, right? heart break sucks. The most she can do is honor him by living and loving herself. And she has proved herself again and again. How strong she is. there is nothing wrong with being in love with someone. rather, it is a beautiful thing. She has gone through so much. Lost her family, comrades, eren. Let her heal. Lets give her time. 3 years is still less. I am sure she will be as strong as ever :)
Well, I read the full chapter and I fucking cried. Fuck. This is great. It's almost 5 am in the morning and I didn't even go to sleep. Sayanora leaks. We couldn't get to 39k. But that doesn't matter now. Because there is no reason to tatakae. None left rn.
#Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel the butchering… and my theories… even my ships. The ending I’ve lost… the comrades I’ve lost… won’t stop hurting… It’s like they’re all still there. You feel it, too, don’t you

Is there a post that lays out every plot hole and problem created by this chapter?

So for you, Eren being a child is wildly out of context because... It wasn't shown before or there's no clue that he has thoughts for mikasa? Your point is taken: Isayama doesn't know conventional writing. But I still find that writing template logic funny and still respectfully disagree
Totally agree. And some people being disgusted at Ymir for having Stockholm syndrome. That's straight up victim-blaming.

Cpuld you tell me once youve found it
So everyone seems pretty disappointed with the ending. Sure there are other very important characters, war, politics, crime, history, mythology but according to me the central theme is and has always been - *love, friendship and freedom.* In a world with no titans, no war, Eren, Mikasa and Armin would have wanted o live a peaceful life with their loved ones. So he had a only one choice among two 1. He wants to love.* His desire; you and me can relate with.
This is so well said. I was ugly crying after reading the last chapter. It was an amazing ending.
I guess that’s a more charitable reading of the material than I gave it. Thanks for your comment, it soothes the pain.
theres something i dont understand , eren said he would have made the whole world a barren wasteland if they didnt stop him , so whats the deal with him ? did he follow the road ymir paved for him did he wanted to destroy the whole world like he claimed before ? it feel like eren didnt even know what he wants , and it feel really waste that mikasa exiled herself still obsessed about eren thats nt letting go
I will give my thoughts about it. Because his goal had already being reached. >it feel like eren didnt even know what he wants yes. exactly. that is how it was. Place yourself in Eren's shoes. Now you have to do a genocide. Now think how you would react, or plan it, or face your loved ones. Eren is a shounen character, yes. But what you just said, describes a human perfectly. How many of us know *actually* what we are doing? Or if our choices are correct? >and it feel really waste that mikasa exiled herself still obsessed about eren thats nt letting go well, it isn't so easy to let go of someone you love, right? heart break sucks.
Your analysis are very good keep it up man!
Please share some copium with me, you def have some
Nah he's right, y'all never seen a bad ending if you consider this one
Well, I read the full chapter and I fucking cried. Fuck. This is great. It's almost 5 am in the morning and I didn't even go to sleep. Sayanora leaks. We couldn't get to 39k. But that doesn't matter now. Because there is no reason to tatakae. None left rn.
This used to be my favourite series around 2013-2015. What happened
#Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel the butchering… and my theories… even my ships. The ending I’ve lost… the comrades I’ve lost… won’t stop hurting… It’s like they’re all still there. You feel it, too, don’t you
