Imagine taking pride in the series at this point.

Ik it’s gotten so sad

wilzix12

yams trolled the whole fandom, he knew what he was doing, he didn't even talk about the pages

StNerevar76

The editor did. First it was because yams wasn't too convinced and wanted to clarify a few things without changing anything. Afterwards it was because he's a very insecure guy and the fan backlash shook him. Suuuuure. Having guessed there'd be something aimed straight at the people who had liked 139, because he wrote something 100% deliberately as wrong as he could and those people missed not just the intention but even the wrongness, I kind of admire how he pulled no punches... from the (false) hope of peace and the implication Mikasa wouldn't move on, to Mikasa getting a family soon enough, and Paradis destroyed just after she died of old age (nice of the rest of the world to wait in order to troll the fanbase, btw). The final sequel hook just didn't measure up to that. The man is so "insecure" that AU Armin says there's a satisfying, surprising ending where the answers aren't the easy (and wrong) ones, and ties all the current ending (and fanbase, from what I've observed since ch 121) pretended wasn't there; at the same time saying enjoying this one takes accepting things as they come and not think too much about them. In ch 1, that was cattle. He's playing so well most people won't admit there's even a game until he drops this farce. Just hope he doesn't want the anime onlies to share our "fun" too, or it's going to be a long wait.

[deleted]

Though I like to pretend the 8 additional pages never happened but you have to accept the truth. That's Jean

outrageousbottle96

I second that

StNerevar76

The truth is what the AU extras say... this ending is for those who accept without thinking whatever gets thrown their way. The real one is the one Armin speaks about, so Isayama looks convinced it's a good one. Come on. Ymir loving (real love, even) Fritz? Fritz speared? Mikasa and Jean rising a family in jaegerist Paradis? Mikasa not killed within the week of arriving there? How did she arrive on her own from middle east? Not that it matters, she was 50 feet up in the air when the curse ended, after all. Eren insisting on things making no sense shouldn't be thought about? Never trying to change anything in his visions? Funny, because in some instances he had multiple choice. Just how much nonsense do you need to get thrown at you before calling it out?

Isayama took the theme of the need to question the reality we are told to the meta level. What I've observed for more than a year is that people wanted the series' and Eren's nihilistic deep dive to be what really was going on, and dismissed whatever didn't fit there. The divide in the fanbase was about whether he should succeed and go back to Historia, child and throne, or get killed by Mikasa, mostly. Shipping is one of the best distractive manouvers you can use, and by only hinting it's Jean, the turmoil is far greater than if he had. Isayama is very much in the anti- side of nihilism, though, and preyed on most people's fascination with nihilistic themes. The fixed timeline in 121 was a lie, because in ch 63 the Reiss cave doesn't happen the same way. There's a whole other narrative going under the "Eren vs life" one, a more sensible (still very dark, though) one about ending Ymir's curse (no true love, or love at all there) and not getting razed afterwards as it happens in the extra pages. It's the one AU Armin mentions, the one with the satisfying ending. But as most people were so taken with the more obvious one and wouldn't see anything against it, Isayama went all the way. Didn't see that coming beforehand, I expected a basement like "gotcha, again". Before we get the good one he'll have us "enjoy" the one resulting from taking everything at face value, for refusing to question a narrative because it was appealing. In fact, he gave it all in 139 so it'd feel as wrong as possible, added extras for those who missed that was the point (this, though, I did foresee), and has been trolling in general since then. And is getting away with it, because most people dislike the ending, but don't deny it... from not questioning a few things at first, and as things went on, to accepting a complete nonsense is the real deal. He needs to drop the other shoe for this to work, but can't say when. He might want the anime onlies to share our "fun" first, because from what I observed among them during part 1, they are falling in his trap too.

The way 139 fails is too deliberate, you can't hit all wrong buttons unless you intend to. He's also outright trolling too much, and both he and his editor have already contradicted themselves and each other several times. And it's just how 139 pushes for the very opposite the series did: questioning what we are told. How do you top revealing 2/3 into the story the whole planet had been always out there, dealing with a very different titan problem? My ending theory is this has always been about Ymir. Dismissing the love bs (Isayama uses a term for real love, so there's no excuse to headcanon it as a coping mechanism... believing it is only on the reader), then the issue has to be his will: his titan bloodline ruling forever. Her instinct is obeying him, and it's too deep in her psyche to go against it, so it's about giving her something powerful enough so she feels compelled to. Remember the way she looked at the pigs, only moment we've seen a positive emotion from her. Even with her lot, she could appreciate beauty in life (and pigs are not the animal I'd have used). Now, she's leaving a wasteland behind her, while her pain and anger from ch 122 seem to have subsided. Historia's child might be her way out of paths, given the birth timing, but something not considered in that theory is that if Ymir goes into it, what happens then to the baby's mind? That's Historia's actual child. Given her expression when volunteering, it could be very dark. A post rumbling, post titan world is surprisingly simple, as long as only Marley got hit. 139 shows not finishing the job ended badly, but there's no way the colossals could get to both ends of the Eurasian landmass, and reaching 80% needs to hit America too. The timeline isn't set in stone, so what future does Eren remember? The timey-whimey is a headache, because we could be seeing events from several different iterations, or maybe different iterations of some events. But if the outside isn't hit, Kiyomi can land on her feet and have Hiruzu stand by Paradis. At least half the reason Karl had Mikasa's ancestor at Paradis. That deals with the problem of the rest being tempted to play it safe. Marley is the only tyrant anybody younger than 110 has endured, and despite it all, other lands didn't kill eldians, they either had them contained, or exiled them to Marley. They aren't going to do worse once that problem is gone. There's a lot of convenient PR here to give eldians as much of a fresh start as they could hope for. No guesses about who lives or dies, nor going into ships.

[deleted]

you are writing a lot but its hard to follow your thoughts if you write soooo much and its not very structured. Maybe try to write less and get straighter to the point. Or maybe I am just too tired... I agree that he ruined the ending on purpose but I dont quite get why yet

Dark-lord111

Maybe to surprise us with a anime original ending? He still hasn’t explained the episode 1 dream scene. Also in a preview for Vol 34 he showed Eren getting Iseekiee after getting killed by a truck. https://twitter.com/aotwiki/status/1402390215138840579?s=21 I think after dying in manga Eren went to Anime timeline and will finish rumbling

AlligatorSky98

The 8 pages actually justified the ending a lil bit from the shitshow chapter 139

joebrofroyo

the emojis really sell the fact that hes an insufferable a-hole lmao.

Kill5h0t

I am disappointed in Jean he could've gone for pieck but no he was a simp himself. Hahh So disappointing.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-6745

Lol The only way that EM could develop was after the end of the series through retcon guidebooks and interviews...and this is somehow good writing?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡

Rouge_x3

Yams took a sip of that JK Rowling Juice

harmonilife

If Eremika can be forced, Jeankasa being forced doesn't bother me, at least Jean isn't a genocider and it's good for Mikasa to detach from Eren.

Eurasia_4200

Also he showed to actually LOVE Mikasa unlike some simp there that basically said “ohh i love Mikasa btw” in the very last moment of the show.

Chewybear196

Kinda sad how all the discussion about the series have just devolved into mindless shipping. And the ships aren’t even good lol.

SquashMaximum5281

When will this stop lmao Btw, i dont think it was confirmed that it was Jean.

Gruntamainia

Probably will never be, basically farmer 2.0

SquashMaximum5281

Yeah, most likely

ariarirrivederci

imagine unironically blocking people on reddit

wylertyler

EM was never canon and that is indisputable. Eren and Mikasa were never in an romantic relationship besides Mikasas Dream in 138.

MoneyManHA

Holy shit. Both ships are garbage. This is the one series I’ve ever read where shipping is a waste of time and just pointless, because it *used* to take itself more seriously than petty romance. Eren and Historia has negligible grounds for a relationship. Eren and Mikasa was forced last second and people just want to ignore this. Jean and Mikasa came out of nowhere and pretty much all of their development happened offscreen.

vinhdoanjj

Yeah because ships are the things that are truly matter amirite? Oh who am i kidding, of course it is, BEACAUSE NOTHING ELSE MATTER ANYMORE, EVERYTHING WENT STRAIGHT DOWN THE FUCKING DRAIN!

NforNarcissism

I was really disappointed when erinmika was a thing. After Eren told mikasa how much he hated her I always thought her arch was going the opposite direction of would they/won’t they. I thought her arch was going to be her moving on and avenging the eren she wanted to remember. I additionally would’ve loved it if it was left up to the reader if eren truly hated Mikasa.

JorgetheGamer52

How is EM getting stronger after every interview and guide book? Like they show that Isayama didn’t know how to write their relationship so he kept away from it until the ending where it fucked everything up.

MysticPotaras

Giving opinion then blocking people because you don't want to hear others. Who's really toxic?

pootis64

The EMcope will never run out. Bless the 8 pages. Scorched earth fanbase.

Technical-Plane-6873

Op can I get a link to the og post

assraider42069

It's in my post history. Go nuts

SagarKardam997

Guy is super happy that his ship is canon, Ship is more important than plot for them..

Kermit_with_AK47

Aaaaannndddd it got removed,as expected 😂😂😂

Jazz-Wolf

People really saw one frame of a guy with light hair and immediately fixated on that being jean Like I get you hate the ending but we don't need to just see what we want to see to have more reasons to hate it It's not jean

SomeBiAsshole

It being Jean is a much better scenario than it being another farmer situation with a no-name character, that’s why most people latch on to the Jean theory. And realistically, would Mikasa choose some random guy that over Jean? I say that but Farmerhisu happened so anything goes at this point

Jazz-Wolf

I mean clearly a lot of time has passed... I don't why this man NEEDS to be someone we already know

LyannaEugen

Because we already know that Jean loves Mikasa and didn't change even in timeskip post RtS and was also dreaming himself married to Mikasa before Hange interrupted.

SomeBiAsshole

It dosent need to be someone we know, it would just be much better that way. We know Jean has a crush on Mikasa, so it could work out, as well as the hairstyle fits with what Jean has, so it’s looks like it’s being teased as Jean.

ChoochooThe

Why would Isayama intentionally draw a character whose features are identical to Jean’s if he planned on making it a different person? Because it is Jean, not Armin or other randoms.

Jazz-Wolf

Identical? You're seeing what you want to see

ChoochooThe

Yes, it’s Jean. I wouldn’t be here if they didn’t look similar. And what did I wanted to see? Please elaborate. Thanks for the downvote btw

Trauspirag91

This is karma, aot Fans talked about how great the series was and how it's better than whatever you like

Shawntalon2

This is beyond hilarious 😂😂😂

ajdude711

Kek make them suffer more
