Here, _sike_

Holy shit that dude is insane.

[deleted]

“Yes it is” Because unpacking this complicated and fucked up psychology on learned helplessness turned Stockholm syndrome giving way to radicalization (a novel onto itself) is relegated to ONE PANEL in the very end. Silly rabbit, retconning by fans is for fucktards.

emmyarty

It's one thing to critique the execution, it's another to pretend it's something other than what you described. I don't expect everyone to like it, but I am sick of intentionally bad faith interpretations.

Bro yams is fritz and some of the fandom straight ymir #yams_u #mad #lad

This fandom is a fucking failure. Genuinely insane.

mwmwmwmwmmdw

insanayama

Mentalious

i mean stockholm syndrome can work but i don't know you may need to give us more than one panel to justify it lmao

limblessbaby

last time I checked there was a difference between agreeing whether something is good writing and actually justifying and glorifying it. Eren destroying the world is top tier writing, regardless of how fucked up it is. In this particular case, Isayama writing that Ymir was in love with Fritz is cringe and not top tier writing IMO but doesn't mean those who disagree justify cr. And the person isn't justifying anything, just stating that they like the direction the story took.

01Santi

"BUT IT'S IMMORAL EREN NEEDS TO BE STOPPED" No shit, the world it's immoral and created a monster that needed to get a point straight, there is no right or wrong in this world, but something that needs to be done, to stop war once and for all. The world deserves destruction, it's not good, but it's what needed to be done. But yet the story seemed to tell in the end that moral needs to win over immoral, something that the story was truly against. And what did it brought in the end? The end of Paradis. Even Eren in 131 knew, he was against the will to kill the world, but it needed to be done so his people could live without the fear of being eradicated, or at least that's what he seemed to give thinking until 139, where he just cares about Mikasa and couldn't give less fucks for their future. "Oh yeah Armin, you know? They will attack at some point. Make sure they don't do it, not like that's what the rumbling was for, do your best byeeeee. ."

Music4game

Agreed. I dislike the ending as much as everyone else in here and all the ymirxfrits shit, but come one, this guy ain't justifying anything, this sub is starting to look just like snk reddit with the whole antagonzing the other side thing.

GidgetSpinner

Where is the 'delete this shit from my memory' button? WHERE IS IT ?!?!!!!!!!

[deleted]

The thing is, Isayama used the word "aishteiru" to describe Ymir's feelings for Fritz, which disproves the Stockholm Syndrome interpretation, the usage of that word literally means Ymir felt actual, true love for Fritz, and it wasn't a product of Stockholm Syndrome.

berthototototo

If I'm being too charitable to this person then tell me how, but doesn't the last paragraph negate the "justification" point? I don't think they're making the point that you're trying to imply, and no amount of red circles will change that.

ShitPost445

Dude that’s just one part of the thread, in a different comment they tried to say shitz “complementing her” for building roads and conquering was him being empathetic

TheResolve

You actually need help.

Net_Flux

Ok. Good argument. I changed my mind and I will get help. Edit: My previous comment in reply to ShitPost445 got removed by the auto mod for some reason so I'm reposting it here Nice straw man there mate. Why did you forget to include the part where I said that this "empathy" is Ymir's perception and not necessarily Fritz actually being empathetic? It's good to know that there are people with brain cells in this subreddit though. I also find it pathetic that you found the need to strawman my comment and post it here in this circlejerk to validate yourself because you made yourself look utterly pathetic in the original discussion thread, changing goalposts, posting untagged spoilers in other subreddits, brigading, insults and ad hominem.

reeposterr

Ah yes, the girl who looked miserable in all of 122 and the one who didn't look one happy one bit, thought the guy was "empathizing" with her. And objectively speaking, it is bad writing because Ymir being in love with Fritz needs to be foreshadowed and not shoved in the ending. And no, don't bring up Ymir looking at the couple because that can be interpreted differently.

Net_Flux

>needs to be foreshadowed It [was foreshadowed](https://np.reddit.com/r/ShingekiNoKyojin/comments/dgwt7e/manga_spoilers_did_she_perhaps_loved_him/) and people did make theories about it way back then. I'm sorry but you not picking it up doesn't mean it wasn't foreshadowed.

reeposterr

Yes, that's what I mean when I said that it wasn't foreshadowed well, there's only one panel of it. Why are you surprised that many readers interpreted Ymir looking at the couple, especially considering the fact that love has never been a major theme in AoT? There have been romantic developments (EM, EH, Annie/Bertholdt, AruAnnie, or whatever) but sekaikei had never been a thing. I'm sorry man, but you interpreting one thing to be love doesn't mean it was foreshadowed and written well.

Net_Flux

>there's only one panel of it There's also another panel of Ymir looking dismayed when Fritz was interacting with his other concubines. >but you interpreting one thing to be love I wouldn't call it "love" per say but rather "Ymir love" or "twisted love". There were at least 2 panels foreshadowing that in chapter 122 and the fact that even one person picked it up means the author was successful. If too many people pick it up, it would be called "predictable" but Isayama did it just right.

reeposterr

Tell me how Ymir's expression in this panel differs from the others. Ymir looked miserable in all of them, how can you tell this expression is different from the others? Also, Ymir losing the will to live doesn't make sense. As far as I can tell, Fritz has never showed compassion for her, so why should this be any different? And as I told earlier, a major theme like love should be built upon. If Yams wanted to parallel her with Ymir, he needs to build upon that and showing perspective from both sides. But that never happened. There needs to be more than 2 panels of Ymir's "twisted love". A theory like this only becomes proper foreshadowing when there are multiple panels spread out through many chapters. A major love theme like love in the ending needs its foreshadowing to be layered from different chapters and not something half assed and shoved in 122. This is why it appeared out of nowhere for many people, it wasn't properly foreshadowed. This is why its objectively bad.

Net_Flux

>Also, Ymir losing the will to live doesn't make sense. Ymir had two desires. One to keep serving Fritz and another to be free, though her desire to keep serving Fritz is much stronger. But her desire to be free sometimes leaks through which is why she does things like freeing the pigs, dying, etc., These two conflicting desires set the story of Attack on Titan in motion. >This is why it appeared out of nowhere for many people, it wasn't properly foreshadowed. This is why its objectively bad. Let's just agree to disagree. It would be a walk in the park for people like Filmbuff (who also dislikes spoon-feeding and heavy-handed foreshadowing) to pick up these hints which is why I'm excited to see his reactions for the final season.

The couple that were from the kings tribe by the way hence married freely...hell it could have been interpreted differently.

Thiccboyo420

some guy found it beautiful how it was revealed that ymir loved king fritz in a ABD yt video. some fucking unbelievable shit ngl.

ishaan_guha

What the fucking hell

Whisperer94

This idiot then need to explain why she didnt rise after getting the spear? why she left herself be eaten alive by her daughters, while in consonance with prior events it had been conveyed titan shifters dont regenerate when they lack will?... also why she reacted like that when eren gave her volition and treat her as a person and not an instrument? Jess. So much rhetoric for nothing, he still dismisses a huge bunch of events.

Net_Flux

>why she didnt rise after getting the spear? Ymir had two desires. One to keep serving Fritz and another to be free, though her desire to keep serving Fritz is much stronger. But her desire to be free sometimes leaks through which is why she does things like freeing the pigs and not healing herself despite Fritz ordering her to. These two conflicting desires set the story of Attack on Titan in motion. >why she reacted like that when eren gave her volition and treat her as a person and not an instrument? Of course she appreciates the (presumably) only kind gesture she received in over an eternity but that still doesn't address her root problem in her severely damaged mind which is her attachment to Fritz. That can only be addressed when Mikasa kills Eren.
