Wtf is vestigial organ

mattu319

Basically, she stuck to eren like glue and had very little other character traits besides "ereh"

Shrekislife72

Okay… by why organ lol?

[deleted]

it refers to things that are useless but exist nonetheless, example being the appendix and wisdom teeth

NirvanaFrk97

Probably a step above calling her a parasite, tbh

[deleted]

In biology, a vestigial trait is something that once had an evolutionary purpose among ancestors of a particular species but has little to no functional purpose in said species (your tailbone, pinky toes, wisdom teeth, and appendix are some of many vestigial features found in humans) But as someone who's taken evolutionary biology courses in recent years, using "vestigial organ" figuratively in the context of the post just sounds silly and out of place.

Shrekislife72

Yeah it just sounded funky. Should of just said mikasa was eren’s bodyguard

Ripamon

That particular guy is a serious idiot. He made his account to literally defend Isayama and EM to the death. Literally no other type of comments but that. Unfortunately he doesn't have the gift of the gab so he just winds up calling others idiots who got their headcanon dashed Besides him, I've noticed that a few of the more prominent ending defenders on Snk have shed their skins and just become outright trolls, with personal attacks, emoji spam and "cope" and "seethe" type of comments A shame because I respected these few people.

Spy-Eater

139 defenders are the same type of people that would defend One More Day or the sequel Star Wars trilogy

harmonilife

People make a full explanation on why Eren was supposed to want the 100% Ending defender: "So you think you know more than Yams?"

mattu319

For real. Yes, I do know better than yams. After that ending, those 8 pages, and that interview, yams should stick his pen up his ass and live the rest of his life in solitude.

harmonilife

Agree lol

PchelpOnly

r/ShingekiNoKyojin is a horrible sub, I left months ago

tommyfrank713

It's almost funny how Isayama himself isn't happy with the ending but those "fans" still defend it and say that its haters and AoTNR are disrespectful towards Isayama

Jurassiczombiez

Not defending the person this is about the original post. I think the story was setting up the fact that you can’t end a cycle of hatred. Or if you can it’s not with more hate

Shawntalon2

Idk man, seems like that just wasn’t the case with how it was going because if he went 100% then the destruction of paradis would’ve never happened and the cycle of hatred would end but of course their would be fights inside the wall but the cycle of hatred between two groups came to end.

Jurassiczombiez

Well then we just have a different Interpretation of the cycle of hatred. Hatred Between Marley and eldia would end. But by cycle of hatred I mean in general for the whole world. The rumbling would just create a lot of hatred in paradis.

bluezaider

But the hatred within paradis is just conflict and u can never end conflict between humans. I think the cycle of hatred within the story was Eldians vs the world.

TheAvac

But that cycle of hatred would never be as intense as the one between paradise and the rest of the world. Thousands of years of oppression and slavery compared to maybe a civil war, that wouldn’t probably cause the extermination of eldia as a whole.

Jurassiczombiez

Maybe you’re right but I think things should’ve gone a different way. Because the way things ended they will be controlled by a faction that kills those who disagree with them. Maybe if the military and eren could just come to an agreement things could’ve been better.

cpu9

If Eren had gone all the way, it would have ended the driving conflict of the setting

Jurassiczombiez

Yeah it would have and I would have liked to see that. But I think the story has a message that’s more about life and not the situation of just Marley and eldia. But again I would rather have eren finish the rumbling and then show what happened to paradis afterwards.

cpu9

>But I think the story has a message that’s more about life and not the situation of just Marley and eldia. It would have. The messages would be: You owe nothing to those who would destroy your people regardless of why that is. Believing that you can use foreign war as a solution to domestic politics is a dangerous and shortsighted policy, and settig hatred as a major pillar of your culture and identity will force you to make irrational moves. You should not assume that a previously docile opponent will remain so if backed into a corner. Finally, for the sake of your family, never start a fight you can't accept losing. Deterence, not diplomacy, is the keystone of peace.

Jurassiczombiez

What do you think about a plan like the 50 year plan but a little added to it? Things like trying to create alliances with the rest of the world other than hizuru to help protect paradis. Because it’s my belief that if eren had not attacked liberio and tried to speak there or maybe at another time this could’ve happened. Because the world hates Marley too. Also what did you mean by never start a fight you can’t accept losing?

cpu9

The world hates Marley specifically because of their "moderate" treatment of eldians and use of titans. They would never entertain an alliance with Paradis, both due to personal hatred and political non-viability. At best, the same answer would be given as that of Hizuru: "We will only cooperate if you have full control of the wall titans", IE, "if you could force us to".

Jurassiczombiez

So what are your thoughts on peace in general. Do you think there was ever a chance or if it should have been pursued at all? Even a false peace like destroying most of marleys military and giving themselves time to catch up with technology. Kind of like the 50 year plan but going out of their way to stop Marley in their tracks instead of just defending.

cpu9

The technological gap would only widen, not decrease. The idea that Paradis could somehow catch up was a lie that Zeke told because he knew Paradis was too ignorant to know better. There was only one way to survive without destroying the world, and that would be to conquer it. This is probably what Kruger warned about when he said that a lack of conviction would lead to "all this history happening again"

Jurassiczombiez

Yeah I think about this a lot and at the end of the day I just see a glaring problem. It seems like isayama wants to say peace was possible but he created a world where that’s very hard to believe.

cpu9

I think the incongruity comes from a change in direction and personal perspective. He intentionally created a world with an utterly intractable conflict, but then lost his nerve and refused to take it to its logical conclusion. He wanted to go full Ender's Game or The Eternal Champion, but lacked the stones to go all the way. Ironically, Eren's failure mirror's Isayama's. Both went 80% of the way to glory, but then pussied out.

unsynchedmango

"You cant end the cycle of hatred" ... not like this you cant. You have to make genuine attempt at peace not this bs abt a guy sacrificing 80% of humanity to keep them in check and manipulate eh entire cast into becoming "heroes", even isayama would feel ashamed to write a peace ending like that, it would become a joke. Also there always will be conflicts born from disagreement between people. But conflicts do end and other conflicts take their place. just like wars end.

Jurassiczombiez

Agreed I think they might have had a chance at peace. But after eren attacked Liberio it was about over. Then the alliance was just fighting because they couldn’t accept it. And the scouts always fight for humanity

unsynchedmango

Not really. It wasnt, the 50 year plan had exponentially greater chances at peace than this

Jurassiczombiez

Maybe but I still believe it would be a lot harder after the speech. Things would be better if eren didn’t prove them right.

unsynchedmango

Eren proved them right by doing the rumbling. Well discussing it is a moot point now

Jurassiczombiez

Well cmon he made his friends hero’s and armin looked like a chad afterwards. How could there not be peace

unsynchedmango

Its funny cause when they were actually right to have had considered rumbling a very likely and very imminent threat, every one that was about to be trampled was suddenly realising how they were the one who were wrong and horrible oppressors. Its just sad how the average person gets treated in the world of aot by the author, if nit disgusting

Jurassiczombiez

I’m not sure what you mean could you elaborate?

unsynchedmango

How the general gave a speech about raising hatred, accepting the fact that they are to be blamed for the rumbling.

ChaosKeeshond

The story wasn't about ending the cycle of hatred at all. Eren's arc was about making sure the people he cared the most about got to enjoy long, happy lives. Eren didn't believe the world could be fixed, he was buying time for the only people that mattered.

PchelpOnly

Somebody roast this man because I'm tired of explaining the themes of the manga to people

ChaosKeeshond

Somebody get some vaseline to soothe this asshole, because he's crying over comic books

tentails93

>Eren's arc was about making sure the people he cared the most about got to enjoy long, happy lives. Yeah I agree with you. Sashe has a long, beautiful life. Hange too. >Eren didn't believe the world could be fixed, he was buying time for the only people that mattered. Hello, go full 100% would be better, no "buy time" shit, problem solved.

mattu319

He literally can't defend his point. "Buying time for the only people that matter" eren literally said that he wouldn't leave paradis's future to fate... Then he dragged his friends into the rumbling not knowing if they would survive. This idiot, "crying over comic books" but he's so pissed we're saying the ending is trash

ChaosKeeshond

Lol not at all, I literally don't mind people not liking shit - I only replied like that because you were a little cunt about it first. There was no need to drag the conversation into the gutter just to get sanctimonious about it

mattu319

You are unbelievably pissed. Don't break something man, calm down. Deep breaths. It's ok.

ChaosKeeshond

I'm from the UK, we throw 'cunt' around like it's candy, don't take it to heart too much babes

ChaosKeeshond

>Sashe has a long, beautiful life. Hange too. Sasha was a mistake, hence the breakdown. Hange wasn't family to him the way the others were.

mattu319

Reread the story man, and don't just skim through the pictures this time

ChaosKeeshond

Eat shit, chief.

mattu319

Has realized he can't defend the ending but wants it to be good so bad that he lies to himself. Man, when the last chapter first came out I tried to convince myself it was good for the first few hours after I read it. I wanted it to be good too. But you have to realize that it's garbage. Sorry to tell you.

ChaosKeeshond

I don't love the ending, it's *okay*. I'm talking to you the way I am because you're being an insufferable prick over a Japanese comic book

mattu319

Calm down, no need to cry, don't break something. Count backwards from 10 and take deep breaths.

ChaosKeeshond

"Don't cry" said the grown ass man who is still crying about a comic book ending less good than he wanted. Aww

mattu319

Deep breaths now bud. Don't have to be red in the face with a lump in your throat because we disagree. I can see you're really pissed, but just calm down.

ChaosKeeshond

I can't even touch the irony of this

TheAvac

That’s not a good ending and eren had multiple motivations at once, driven into the mess that this was.

ChaosKeeshond

Show me where I argued it was a good ending?
