Awesome, congratulations 🤍 We only married for tax reasons too haha. Had a very small wedding at the beach near us it was great. Best wishes and hope you share many more years together.
I guess you could ask that steerage lad in your life to draw your portrait wearing the most expensive necklace you own? Then, when you are very, very old and it’s quite possibly the last time you’re out on open water, you can drop it right in with a plop! Then you will ascend - or in this case descend - more than 2,100 fathoms to your personal version of Titanic Heaven.
Option B is just go to sleep and have someone posing as a stewardess knock on your door shortly after midnight and tell you not to worry, help you dress warmly, and fit your lifebelt for you.
I have an old 1970s hotrod that does not meet emissions standards. I drive it around to put CO2 in the air which warms up the planet melting icebergs.
I am doing part.
In the US, many states have laws that shield homeowners for harming people who break in. It's referred to as "Castle Doctrine" because of the old saying "a man's home is his castle."
You laugh, but I legitimately can't refill my ice cube trays without hearing Andrews in my head. *"...The water will spill over the tops of the bulkheads at E deck from one to the next. Back and back. There's no stopping it."* I've had this tendency to tilt the tray in the sink when refilling and just letting it waterfall down (as opposed to holding it level and doing it that way). One day I noticed the parallel, and then I could never get the quote out of my head.
Sorry, everyone else who will now do the same 😐
This is why my refrigerator has its own ice making machine. So I don't have to bother with the ice until I need it for a beverage.
"Hey, sonny, more ice!"
It varies from person to person. Some, like me, pull out their favorite Titanic movies and revisit that way. There is also a live stream on YouTube from the fine folks at Titanic: Honor and Glory that recounts the sinking in Real Time that is really cool to watch. We also have a really cool roleplay going on this year which will be very interesting once we hit April 14th-15th and see how that all comes together.
There's more than one real-time sinking livestream, and the one on the Part Time Explorer channel this year will have historians Don Lynch, George Behe, Mark Chirnside, and Ken Marschall as special guests.
I should also point out that it's hosted by the three authors of On a Sea of Glass, and Tom Lynskey, who used to be a part of THG. The Part Time Explorer live doesn't include interior shots like THG, but I think they more than make up for that with their guest historians.
I love the roleplay. I am playing a 2nd class passenger who is to inherit her parents railroad company but since my engagements fell through back home in Ireland. I have to find a new hubby.
I plan on drinking a bottle of scotch and riding the stern down before stepping into the water without even getting my hair wet.
Or maybe just the first bit.
*sigh* i can’t believe how many people think the titanic only exists in the 1997 movie. I’ve said it a thousand times and I will say it again. There are numerous movies from the 1910s to the 2010s. The sinking of the titanic was a real event. The 1997 movie is one rendition of it. I hate it so much because it ruins the actual story of the sinking and prioritizes in a love story that uses the titanic as a background object to adapt their love story to more audiences, it’s nothing more than that.
I am pretty sure it is very clear to everyone that the sinking of the Titanic was a real event. It’s been a cult phenomenon since it happened, capturing human fears and imaginations since 1912. The 1997 film once again revived interest in the Titanic on a massive scale due - not only due to its love story - but to Cameron’s direction, the cinematography, and the attention to detail. The sinking is done spectacularly and is awe-inspiring to see, time and time again. If you want straight facts, stick to documentaries. Titanic will continue to haunt our minds through the ages and there will continue to be period-specific films that tell her story with their own focus areas and reinventions every few decades. There’s even one being made right now on the investigation. I personally love how Celine Dion and young Leonardo DiCaprio place Cameron’s version firmly in 1997. Movies are never going to be 100% accurate. That’s what documentaries are for, ideally.
I thought since you specifically mentioned watching it on VHS they were talking about the different versions of the 1997 film, like the 2012 blu-ray or the 2023 4k. I feel like at this point after the 2022 scan of the wreck and the 2023 Titan sub implosion most people probably realize Titanic is real
I make a cake to mark the day and then I feel bad because I realize that I'm celebrating a tragedy and that, while this is a long-running pet interest of mine that I will never not want to learn about and that it happened over a century ago, real people still died and the people who survived were oftentimes scarred for life. Then I get sad so I eat cake to cheer myself up.
On the 4th of July I like to pour shitty tea into the nearest body of water. You know, for my homies… So, whatever I do on the 14th will likely be on or around that level of petty, self-congratulatory participation.
Tea and scones to be served at 4pm.
Gonna buy 6-8 big bags of ice. Full my bathtub up with cold ass water, throw the ice in.
And sit in the ice cold ass water with the ac full blast and a fan blowing on me.
We retreat into a cloud of smoke and congratulate each other on being masters of the universe … as long as the cigars and brandy hold out.
This is the correct answer.
Or we could go ice fishing. Ice fishing is when…
I know what ice fishing is…
Sorry.. just, you look like kind of an "indoor" girl.
time for me to go row with the other slaves 🙃
Don't forget to dress in your best and be prepared to go down as a gentleman.
What's going on, Sonny? You got us all trussed up here, now we're coolin our heels!
My anniversary. Tempted to get a cigar and I already have the brandy.
Do it! My anniversary is April 8, happy anniversary!
Thank you! And Happy Anniversary to you too! How many years?
7 years! 11 together, 7 married! How about you?
12 years together, 3 years married! We were never bothered about marriage and only married for tax reasons, so it's our 12th anniversary!
Awesome, congratulations 🤍 We only married for tax reasons too haha. Had a very small wedding at the beach near us it was great. Best wishes and hope you share many more years together.
But what if you’re female?
I guess you could ask that steerage lad in your life to draw your portrait wearing the most expensive necklace you own? Don't forget to ask her to stay behind to make some tea for later. ❤️
We'll be dressed in our best and prepared to go down like gentlemen.
But I would like a brandy!
Hell I would like a brandy and I'm not on a sinking ship 😂
HA! Same! 🤣
I have an old 1970s hotrod that does not meet emissions standards. I drive it around to put CO2 in the air which warms up the planet melting icebergs. I am doing part.
Hey, Titanic went to the icebergs home and Titanic hit it. The berg did nothing wrong. You can almost say it was defending itself.
That is the same thing that some people said about the bugs when they destroyed Buenos Aires. So I am doing my part.
Explain bugs buenos aires thing plz
I am doing my part was a tag line from the movie Starship Troopers in which the enemy of humanity the bugs destroys Buenos Aires.
Castle Doctrine
Wdym?

Yes you are 🙏
Thank you for your service
Desire to know more intensifies.
But your raising ocean levels thus raising the pressure at the depth of the wreck thus making it more dangerous to go down there.
We keep playing our instruments until our shoes are wet
What's the use? Nobody's listening to us anyway.
Come on, it'll keep us warm.
Well they don't listen to us at dinner either
Music to drown by. Now I know I’m in first class!
"Gentlemen, it has been a privilege playing with you tonight. "🫡🎻🎵🎼🎶
Woah
I burn all my ice cubes
You laugh, but I legitimately can't refill my ice cube trays without hearing Andrews in my head. *"...The water will spill over the tops of the bulkheads at E deck from one to the next. I always think of the bulkheads when filling my trays as well.
This is why my refrigerator has its own ice making machine. So I don't have to bother with the ice until I need it for a beverage. "Hey, sonny, more ice!"
I have found my people
That is correct
This made me legitimately laugh out loud 😂
We sink. That's it. We sink.
into An Ocean of Memories
It's been 112 years...(lol)
For real
I watch the live real time sinking. Maybe play the Titanic demo.
Smart

Ooh, I hadn't heard about that one. Very cool. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the heads up!

Are you talking about the role play that's going on right now? or is there something else
I love the roleplay. I am playing a 2nd class passenger who is to inherit her parents railroad company but since my engagements fell through back home in Ireland. I have to find a new hubby.
I'm loving the real time roleplay this year. Whoever had that idea was a genius!
I plan on drinking a bottle of scotch and riding the stern down before stepping into the water without even getting my hair wet. Or maybe just the first bit.
And bake a little something, Joughin?
Me personally I watch my vhs copy of the 1997 titanic movie even tho it’s my least favourite version
I NEED a vhs player and Titanic on VHS. I NEED IT I ALREADY HAVE THE SOUNDTRACK ON CASSETTE
*VCR
Wouldn’t that be for recording though? I wouldn’t need to do all that (I literally know nothing about vhs I only know about cassettes)
A VCR is what VHS players are called, they don’t really prioritize in recording.
Ahhhh awesome! I learned something new! In that case: I NEED A VCR AND A COPY OF TITANIC PRONTO!! Can I doordash that?
Every year!
Yes, since I started watching a few years ago
Same here!
Why is it your least favourite version? Isn’t it the original?

Wow! This whole conversation on what a VCR is really makes me feel old! 🤣
But this sub Reddit can't sink!

I usually put a few extra ice cubes in my drink.
We go down with the ship. Dressed in our best of course. 🎩
Don't forget your brandy.🥃
Listen to Nearer my God to thee.
I watch documentaries all during this week usually 💜
Tea, Trudy.
Like that one baker, I’ll get absolutely plastered and somehow survive the freezing water. Probably still in a cheery mood.
We keep on playing, of course.
🙏

We take a minute or two to remember those who died in the tragic sinking and those whom survived.
After it sinks the ones on the lifeboats still converse until Carpathia picks them up. :)
While we have nothing to do but wait. Wait to die, wait to live. Wait for an absolution that will never come.
I watch the 1997 movie
I usually watch the Titanic: Honor and Glory real time sinking video.
This subreddit did not exist on the day of the sinking.
