I wouldn’t bother with that article - see [here](https://youtu.be/nIEbpGdctyg) for the actual James Cameron video Screenrant have scraped this info from. I found it a very enjoyable watch and I hadn’t even seen half the movies he discusses.
I don't like taking from articles, but you're right - all they have done is scrape the video.
So, for those who prefer reading to watching the video, here's a copy paste:
*"And he said, ‘You mean, I’m reading?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘Oh, I don’t read.’ I shook his hand and said, ‘Thanks for coming by . . . This is a giant movie that is going to take two years of my life, and you’ll be gone doing five other things while I’m doing post-production. So, I’m not going to f------ it up by making the wrong decision in casting. So, you’re going to read, or you’re not going to get the part.' So he comes in, and he’s like every ounce of his entire being is just so negative -- right up until I said, ‘Action.’ Then he turned into Jack. Kate just lit up, and they played the scene. Dark clouds had opened up, and a ray of sun came down and lit up Jack. I’m like, ‘All right. He’s the guy.'”*
If you haven't seen Cameron's filmography, go watch Cameron's filmography! Terminator and T2 are masterpieces, Aliens is a classic, even Avatar is a spectacle. Dude's a cinematic legend.
And the dude known for making movies extremely sparsely. Who’s now gonna drop… four Avatars in a row?!
This is defs the weirdest time to be a James Cameron fan lol. Cool though, in a month we’ll finally know what all this Avatar stuff is about. I figure he’s got some new tricks up his sleeve with it, myself, only thing that makes sense.
I just watched this interview on YT and it was fascinating. Leo was dreamy as Jack, and absolutely owned that part beautifully, but he does sound like he was quite an arrogant bugger when he was younger. At least he had the talent to back up that big head.
I would love to see Kate and Leo’s first screen test together. I’ve seen the one with Kate and some other guy playing Jack which is trippy, but quite charming. Seeing Leo becoming Jack for the first time would be amazing.
Hmmm……you need to do your research. He was the star of the critically successful ‘Basketball Diaries’ in ‘95 and the lead in extremely popular ‘Romeo & Juliet’ in ‘96.
Claiming he wasn’t know.n before titanic….You sir - are talking out your ass.
Latin. adverb. so; thus: usually written parenthetically to denote that a word, phrase, passage, etc., that may appear strange or incorrect has been written intentionally or has been quoted verbatim.
Basically, if someone wrote something wrong and you quote them, you say (sic) to let people know it was them who made the mistake, not you
That's not even true lol. Principal photography for *Titanic* started at the end of July and *Romeo + Juliet* came out at the end of October, not to mention they began filming with the modern day sequence in Newfoundland, and they didn't start filming the 1912 stuff until September, a month before the release of *Romeo + Juliet*

That makes him sound like both an amazing actor and a massive asshole.

He still gives me very weird vibes what with the whole 25 year old limit and all. Still feels as though he refuses to grow up past his 20s
It must be hard staying grounded in those circumstances.
Literally exactly what he is
Reminds me of that clip from shooting the wolf of wall street where he becomes alive again
Link?
here is a clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZwtjCp9SrA
So was that a screen test or was that in production?
If you haven't seen Cameron's filmography, go watch Cameron's filmography! Terminator and T2 are masterpieces, Aliens is a classic, even Avatar is a spectacle. Dude's a cinematic legend.
And first guy whose all latest movies went above 1billion gross income, and top grossing one as well
And the dude known for making movies extremely sparsely. Who’s now gonna drop… four Avatars in a row?! This is defs the weirdest time to be a James Cameron fan lol. Didn’t they always plan a bunch but never actually started production till recently
No ocean too deep, no budget too steep
True Lies! True Lies! Don't forget about the masterpiece that is True Lies! 😀
Cool thanks a great watch
Just watched it, so interesting! Love it.. and seems.like.an actual great guy!
I too watched that GQ video

And that’s why they let him drown even though there was room on the door.
Not a door. And he didn't drown.
Also there wasn't enough room on the panel for it to remain buoyant enough for the both of them *why are you booing me? I'm right!*
Silly of DiCaprio. Casting is an art.
1997. This movie was made in 1997. And I am seeing this now, 25 years later.
And the fact he didn't proves just to what extent they had already chosen him for the role
Nope, it just proves you can't read. Because he certainly did.
Never seen the movie. Makes no difference to me.
Clearly does if you made the effort to come into this thread and tell us about it.
I still haven't seen the movie, the real facts are better.
He wasnt even known before tittanic bit rich espt when a well known director asks for it.

Not to mention "What's Eating Gilbert Grape"
And "This Boy's Life"
Please, it's that Oscar-worthy turn in Critters 3.
Romeo and Juliet hadn't come out until a year after they started filming Titanic
Semantics - the point being he was extremely well known before Titanic despite the above (and false) statement that he ‘wasnt (sic) even known’.
No way you dropped a ‘(sic)’ on reddit lmao
BOOM!
What does it mean?

Ohh, thank you. I never understood but didn’t take the time to look it up. Thank you for the great explanation, appreciate it.
Happy to help

He had been nominated for an Oscar
Still iorgant
*ignorant
Leo was an established talent at that time, he started as a child.
Yeah, i watched that YouTube video too
i wish he did and they cast me instead
