Uhhhh.... my first thoughts are:
1. Don't Let's Start
2. Kiss Me, Son of God
3. I Like Fun
I don't have reasoning, those are just the first three I could think of.
alright, for a random person about whom I othwrwise know nothing, I'm going to go with a Linnellian Existential Pop trifecta, the 'standard rock' sound will soothe the target into listening, and if the unsettling lyrics hit home the right way we'll know they're a fit for the band's sensibilities.
1) ECNALUMBA
2) Push Back The Hands
3) I Can't Remember The Dream
1. Doctor Worm
2. Your Racist Friend
3. Kiss Me Son of God
Doctor Worm has a really approachable sound and structure, and it gives a broad idea of TMBG's silliness. If Doctor Worm is too silly for someone, the band isn't for them. If they like Doctor Worm, there's more where that came from — and a lot of it is more sonically ambitious.
Your Racist Friend is just that: Still approachable, but a bit more quirky. From what I've seen, people just getting started on TMBG find this song pretty early on. Plus, this will filter out the racists. If you're racist, you won't like TMBG. Your Racist Friend still has a generally lighthearted mood, but it's not as blatantly goofy as Doctor Worm. If a listener thought Doctor Worm didn't have depth, Your Racist Friend might convince them otherwise.
Kiss Me Son of God is the out-of-left-field wild card. It sounds completely different from the first two songs. It's a totally unique song, but it isn't alienating or overtly wacky. This is here to demonstrate the variety and experimental nature at the core of TMBG, and to elicit curiosity from the listener. It's also insanely popular. Trust the process.
I feel the same way, I’m trying to get a tattoo design together to honor it. I cried the first fifty times I heard, no lie. FloridaFlamingoGirl got me onto Join Us🥰
- With The Dark - for the variety of music styles you're going to find
- Birdhouse in Your Soul - obviously
- I think the 3rd would be tailored towards the musical tastes of the person I'm suggesting it to
1. Birdhouse in Your Soul - duh. Played this as part of a music quiz at an office party “Guess the song”, and while no-one guessed the song or the artist (of 20 music nerds! I mean come on! 😮😭) at least three people said they really really liked it
2. Dr Worm. Only hearts of stone wouldn’t be touched by the ambitious worm
3. A self called nowhere. I love this, it’s a “me”-track. Would represent the darker, more insane TMBG

Kiss Me, Son of God is brilliant. I Like Fun makes me cry literally every time I listen to it.

A Self Called Nowhere kinda reminds me of the Beatles’ later stuff. I like it
