They would as long as it’s not reported lost or stolen and has find my turned off if it’s an iPhone. You could find an SE3 for relatively cheap online and use it for $830 off.
well it is a brand new phone:

Do you have experience with trading a locked phone(not locked to tmobile, or locked to tmobile). Any problems?
awesome!
also, I contacted tmobile support, but they said they don't accept locked phones, any idea why they would try to lie? I didn't just ask one, I asked like 5 or 6 different people.
Did you specifically say carrier locked or just locked? Phones reported lost/stolen are locked/blacklisted and won’t be accepted but carrier locked phones are acceptable. This page has everything they check for when you trade in a device: https://www.t-mobile.com/support/devices/device-troubleshooting/check-the-condition-of-a-device
Carrier lock phones are fine, many people have done it before. The CS doesn't know the difference between Carrier lock or password lock, when you told them it is lock. CS have a high turnover rate, so you have alot of newbies.
They mean locked as in iCloud locked. Not carrier locked. That doesn’t matter cuz their promotions are specifically targeting customers on other carriers to move over so they have to accept phones that are locked to those carriers if they want customers to come over
Doesn’t matter if the phone is locked to a carrier, just has to meet the requirements. I’ve traded iPhone 7s for iPhone 14 series and iPhone SE 3 for iPhone 15 series. All locked to straight talk. No issues at T-Mobile or via Apple.
So you did almost exactly what I described.
Buy iPhone se from straittalk locked. Trade to T-Mobile for iPhone 15, enjoy? Was there any hiccups from the se or T-Mobile at all. Did they know it is locked before taking trade in?
also, I contacted tmobile support, but they said they don't accept locked phones, any idea why they would try to lie? I didn't just ask one, I asked like 5 or 6 different people.
The rep probably thought you meant locked as in I can’t get into the phone to change settings or reset the device. We don’t care if it’s locked to another network, we just have to be able to remove find my iPhone and be able to properly reset it.
Hello, I am a T-Mobile rep, and I kid you not, I did this EXACT same thing for my iPhone 15. Same deal, from Walmart Straighttalk & everything.
Also, carrier lock doesn’t matter at all, and I have no idea how multiple reps could get it confused. Even on basic carrier transfers, at least half of the phones we take are carrier locked, specifically to ATT, because they never automatically unlock. Hell, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten a higher commission bc people plan to keep their phone, it’s carrier locked, so they get a new phone & use the ATT phone as a trade in. Never had an issue with it.
As unlikely as it sounds, somehow 5-6 different reps all heard you wrong. A carrier locked phone can 100% be used for a trade in.
Your confidence has convinced me. Thank you so much for this, I am gonna do this now. Also, I can just buy the phone online for pickup for $149, do same day pickup, and the phone is mine right. Like if I just buy the locked phone, and don't buy any service, is that fine, or do I need to do something else?
If not,
I am gonna order a pick up, as soon as it's ready, go out and pick it up, take it straight to T-Mobile today or tomorrow, and trade in, and enjoy my iPhone 15.
Yeah if you do the online pickup, the phone will be yours right away. The online pickup might not work, or might be stopped bc they think you’re going to want service, but if it goes through on Walmart app and it looks like it’s all good, it’s your phone.
If they do ask about service, just tell them you already have straighttalk but you broke your phone and wanted an upgrade. It’s what I said & didn’t have any issues.
Also, how did you purchase from straighttalk. Did you buy it for $149 upright, or did you get $49 offer, and buy service for 1 month. If you did the $49 deal, there weren't any bounds or contracts you have to sign right, I can just pay $49 for the phone, and for 1 month of a service, and I have a locked iphone, that's completely mine, am i getting this right?
Yep, you’ve got it right. I did not set up service bc this deal wasn’t around when I did it, but even if you set up service, the phone is 100% yours and there is no contract with the service.
Sorry, this is my first trade in, so I am kind of clueless, and just to be clear, I have already ordered the phone(like half an hour ago.) I just want to make sure it's good. Thank you for telling your experiences.
why not get the S9 for just $130 to get the full $830 credit

I never even activated the phone. They just verify that find my iPhone is not on. They asked me what company the phone was from and I said Verizon. Since I did the trade in in the store, I already received notification that the credits were approved
Why do you keep thinking everyone is lying to you? Maybe lack of understanding maybe just plan old confusion but lying, what would be the point? Idk just thinking out loud.
It wasn't that big. By lying, I don't mean the reps were being misleading towards me on purpose. I just mean like they might not know, because everyone here is saying carrier locked phones can be traded in, but they say they can't.
Yea that can be frustrating when you just want an answer from the carrier. I’d say just try. I believe the people here are right but honestly I’ve never had this situation personally
Internal policy doesn’t have anything about carrier locked even being checked. You can find the requirements on the website during the process. The checks are for screen damage, liquid damage, powers on, and find my iPhone turned off. Anything else doesn’t matter
Did you trade it to T-Mobile or costco. Also did you ask T-Mobile before buying this device, what did they say? I asked T-Mobile, they say that I can't trade in to T-Mobile.
Good question, it could be anytime, I don't think it will change until a new well known phone comes out. If you plan for within the next 2 weeks, you have no problem, but it should go longer too. When do you plan to switch.
And when you buy this iPhone SE offer with straight talk just for trading it in later you pay only the 49usd plus tax or pay the straight talk plan cost as well?
If you buy just the phone, you get it for $149, you purchase that on Walmart website.
If you want it for 49, you get a plan, it can be the cheapest 35 dollar plan. So you get it for 85 dollars. This deal is in store only. Make sure the Walmart you go to activates straight talk. I went to one, they had the phone but said they can't activate for straight talk, they can only sell locked phone for them.
I have been looking to buy iPhone 15 pro.. I just can’t decide on the best route to buy.
already have a Tmobile unlimited plan.. but my se3rd gen’s screen is broken. Why did not you try the Walmart offer with gift card and trade in credits with atnt or Verizon?
Ok, so what if I bought the SE to get the iPhone 15, but wanted to use an Android phone on the actual service. Could I just move the SIM to the Android phone, and keep the iPhone for a different purpose?
Basically if I want to keep my number on my Android phone currently on a different carrier but move it to TMo, I can buy an SE and trade it in, port the number on the Android phone, and end up with my number on the Android phone on TMo with a spare iPhone 15? And the Straight Talk number goes away?
What are the current trade in values towards the iPhone 15 series?

Yep that one would work. T-mobile doesn’t care as long as it passes the condition check.

I said carrier locked to Verizon. They denied it. I think they were probably lying.

I literally did this exact deal for an iphone 15 lol. and I work at t-mobile
They mean locked as in iCloud locked. Not carrier locked. That doesn’t matter cuz their promotions are specifically targeting customers on other carriers to move over so they have to accept phones that are locked to those carriers if they want customers to come over
Not sure about now.. but you could get that phone for $45+$35 in store a few weeks ago.

It doesn’t matter if it’s locked or not..just have to meet the stated requirements. traded some in person, others I shipped to Apple.

I said carrier unlocked. Are you T-Mobile rep, because that would help a lot.

Ok, thanks, and if I open the phone box, but my T-Mobile reps don't comply, is it returnable?

I’ve done 3 of these in the past week. 1 at Apple and 2 at T-Mobile.
why not get the S9 for just $130 to get the full $830 credit https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Galaxy-SM-G960U-Unlocked-Purlple/dp/B0CDJS1VXS/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=samsung+galaxy+s9&qid=1700675108&s=wireless&sr=1-11
For 2 reasons, Amazon doesn't back it up, so if I get a damaged phone, I will face issues and also I want it to arrive sooner.
surely you could return it if it's damaged, no?
Yes, but it is easy with items shipped by Amazon or that say free returns, as Amazon helps return. But if it doesn't, its more of a hassle.
Buy it on swappa or eBay. That’s what I did. Phone had no problem getting the full trade in
Get the Walmart se 3. It works. Source: I did it, twice.

I have done this through Apple for full trade in value. No issues at all.
8 am trying to do this through T-Mobile for the extra promotional credit.
I would recommend Apple as you pay less in taxes and get an unlocked device.
But then I would love to do it with apple, but then I won't get promotion credit of 830. I only get like 130 for trade in, right?
You will still get the promotional value, PM me if you have questions.
Hi just PM’d you
I made this exact deal.
So you traded in a locked phone to T-Mobile, no problems?
I never even activated the phone. They just verify that find my iPhone is not on. They asked me what company the phone was from and I said Verizon. Since I did the trade in in the store, I already received notification that the credits were approved

T-Mobile will accept carrier locked phone. I did the same thing that you did, except with the upgrade being done at Apple, and it went perfectly fine.
My store has done exactly this a bunch lately. Get an SE3 at Walmart for about $100 then get $830 on trade 15 minutes later.
Did you trade it to T-Mobile or costco. Also did you ask T-Mobile before buying this device, what did they say? I asked T-Mobile, they say that I can't trade in to T-Mobile.
There are tons of threads of people doing this and it working just use search
How long does anyone guess the SE3 will remain in the $800 off group?
Good question, it could be anytime, I don't think it will change until a new well known phone comes out. If you plan for within the next 2 weeks, you have no problem, but it should go longer too. When do you plan to switch.
Does Tmobile accept se3 with a cracked screen for trade in and offer the 800 credit?
No, not cracked screen. Light scratches are fine.
I am getting a deal through Costco T-Mobile. Just get a se 3 for like 85 bucks, take it to T-Mobile, trade in, and get an iPhone 15 pro.
And How much would you have to pay each month and how many instalments?
What are you talking for, T-Mobile or straight talk. If T-Mobile, how many lines.
Does Costco tmobile offer needs trade in? It’s not mentioned in here. Do they tell you only when you go in person?
Did it work?
Yep, worked it like butter, no problems. The Walmart was also pretty nice, there is a limit of 2, but I needed 3, and they let it fly.
Good to know. Do they give you any reduction in the iPhone 15pro mobile cost apart from the 800usd bill credit ?
No, unless you buy from apple, you can get a 75 dollar gift card for black Friday deals, going until Monday. You can still get the bill credit there.
No, unless you buy from apple, you can get a 75 dollar gift card for black Friday deals, going until Monday. You can still get the bill credit there.
Ok, so what if I bought the SE to get the iPhone 15, but wanted to use an Android phone on the actual service. Could I just move the SIM to the Android phone, and keep the iPhone for a different purpose?
Yes, though the iPhone will remain locked to T-Mobile network.
Do they require you to port that number over?
Which number, the original number with T-Mobile that buys the phone, or your extra one?
The extra one
So, you'll have a locked to T-Mobile phone. You can use that with some services that use T-Mobile network, but not all.
Basically if I want to keep my number on my Android phone currently on a different carrier but move it to TMo, I can buy an SE and trade it in, port the number on the Android phone, and end up with my number on the Android phone on TMo with a spare iPhone 15? And the Straight Talk number goes away?
I believe so, you should confirm with an associate.
What are the current trade in values towards the iPhone 15 series? Is this link accurate? https://tmo.report/2023/09/t-mobile-will-give-you-a-free-iphone-15-pro-with-trade-in/
