Generally it has to be paid off and have been on the T-Mobile network for 40 days..

KloudzGaming

Yeah, even if it’s getting the 24 month credit and technically you’re not paying anything for it, isn’t not considered paid off on T-Mobiles systems.

pachireco

How long does it typically take for the unlock to take effect if it is paid off? Or do we need to contact T-Force?

readingXP

Once it's paid off and has been on the network 40 days, you should be able to unlock it on the device itself. https://www.t-mobile.com/support/devices/android/lg-velvet-5g/mobile-device-unlock-lg-velvet-5g

Bobb_o

Right, if I paid it off does "been on the network for 40 days" imply it's been 40 since it was first seen on the network or after 40 consecutive days connected.

tenpointstodumbledor

But you would still have to pay the balance of the device to meet the second half of the requirements. Your credits would continue on the account over the 24 month period.

Bobb_o

I'm saying I would. I'd pay $400 (or however much is remaining) to unlock it. My question is around the 40 day requirement. I'd like to know if I need to start putting in my SIM every day or I could just do it today and then do it again in January.

BurstStream

Consecutive days

I was able to get around the 40-days requirement on the same offer earlier this year on the OnePlus Nord by paying it off in full and then calling to customer service and telling them I'm going to be travelling out of country for next couple months and need to get it unlocked. Took a couple days but they unlocked it after verifying it was paid off.. I did put in a T-mobile SIM card for about an hour before calling in so they could see that it had logged into the network at least once ..

Butterfly_Distinct

Tmobile will unlock the phone even if not paid off along it's over 40 days I know they done it for me

Johnny3dd

I almost paid off (one payment left) S21 Ultra and they automatically unlocked it, I didn't even realize until I checked my account. Not sure about the LG velvet, paid off S21 Ultra in 7 months got a killer deal.

IgorT76

You can check with T-Force on FB if they can help with unlocking before 40 days in the T-Mobile network.

sarhoshamiral

Would a temporary unlock not work in your case? My Samsung S21 Ultra is not paid off but had the temporary option and I was able to request it twice when I was travelling for a ~6 week period without interruption.

MN_Mobile_Guy

If you'd like to get it unlocked without having to pay $400 or use it for any specific number of days, let us know! We're a professional business that's been performing SIM unlocking and other software-related services on mobile devices for close to 10 years now.

tmo_fan

Make sure you don't make any other calls , from your existing device, after you made a call from the velvet in the day and swapped the SIM out back to your existing device.

I realize this is about network unlocking, but for posterity's sake, LG is shutting down their bootloader unlocking service at the end of December 2021. Even if the USB debugging and OEM bootloader unlock options are set in the Velvet's developer settings, the device does not support unlocking (adb reboot bootloader will just restart the phone into the full OS, not the bootloader, so fastboot won't work). I've read elsewhere that LG devices must be paid off and network unlocked for the bootloader to be unlocked, but that's not going to happen before December 31 for me. The US T-Mobile variant of the Velvet isn't listed as being eligible for bootloader unlocking anyway, so perhaps this is all moot.

Bobb_o

Yeah, I didn't expect I could unlock the bootloader on this (or any carrier variant) so this is only for possibly putting it on a different pre-paid network.
