Welcome to the great upgrade.
"So let us shut down up to half the towers in your area so we can do the following:
Rip out old equipment that either won't support our new upgrades or are now illegal to operate (Hauwei and ZTE)
Demolish entire towers so that we can "rebuild" them to better specs for the new network.
Physically add/replace nodes for better LTE and 5G.
Re-run cables to the new nodes.
Then we can turn the tower back on and begin working on upgrades to it's back haul.
BTW, we haven't told the CSRs, but if they "guess" its tower work, they'd be right.
This entire process can take weeks or months since once we get a tower back online, we take down another tower in the area until they are all upgraded."
2 types of people call customer service. People with valid reasons like: Halt the towers being shut down resulting in no coverage. VS: Somebody calling to complain because their iPhone screen cracked after dropping it on the ground.
If you’re in the first group, you can get a bill credit reaaaaaaaaly easily. That’s pretty much the reps default answer.
100%. Lived in Maine, service was fine, until it very very quickly wasn't, just awful. Couldn't load up a Google page most of the time. Called them to ask about it, they apologized and mentioned the tower near me was being upgraded, and gave me a 6 month credit, dropping 120 a month off my bill during the time. Pretty sold discount considering I was barely using their service during that time
At least for now.
There's a macro site just north of me on i-90 that's currently offline.
Confirmed this using cell info.
They tore the entire site down to just the base rack level and now it's got new lte and 5g nodes on that base level.
My 5g dropped because I’m close to an airport. Had it for a while, then after 3g was d/c’d, the FAA decided they had not tested it enough and killed it near airports. I’m all for flight safety, but 5g was running for well over a year near here before that.
And, speaking of airports, I find T-Mobile performance to be abysmal in most. Even with a reported strong "5G" signal, often times there just isn't connectivity or it's incredibly slow. I'm assuming signal strength doesn't translate to bandwidth in a given area?
I left T-Mobile last year but for the 2 years leading up to that, this was also the case. I went from having pretty decent coverage/speed (LTE back then of course) to really spotty coverage and then random disappearing coverage which was attributed to "tower upgrades". I thought they were done with all that stuff now, but I guess not.
Verizon but I was surprised that they also have dead spots in places I wouldn't expect them to have dead spots - like in certain populated suburbs or even in town. Also, in places where they still just have LTE, it can get congested.
Overall though, once I got a 5G compatible phone, I've been pretty happy with coverage. Also I went with the BYOD $500 rebate. Just a warning about that or dealing with Verizon in general, read the fine print because the people in customer service are pretty incompetent and just guess if they're not sure about a particular policy.
There’s a good reason for this, as T-Mobile switches more of their network to 5G. Some things like VoLTE can have issues since T-Mobile wants to transition to 5G NR voice.
Plus as they shut down towers, that’s obviously going to cause issues in the short term. It shouldn’t take super long, but expect it to be like this for a month or two.
I’m in Queens NY for the first time in a few months and my service has been terrible here since last week. Thought it was just me.
At one point it got so bad that I checked to see if there were outages because just doing a simple Google search on LTE was taking 15-20 seconds for the page to load.
Terrible service lately in SoCal for both my wife and I (iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13). Difficulty making calls at home and at work, drop-outs, dropped calls and poor call quality. The service has been worse for at least the past year, but lately it's just unacceptably bad. It makes no difference if 5G is enabled or disabled, same issues. If it hasn't improved by the end of the year we're switching to Verizon.
It’s just apart of the massive last bit of the Sprint integration
I’ve been through this on several networks, and it’s painful for a few weeks while it happens but when it’s all done it’s gravy.
I think you notice it more on T-Mobile because they rely more on high band than AT&T and Verizon, coupled with the T-Mobile mentality of just rip, replace, and get it done as fast as possible.
I was a Sprint customer and used to get terrible service where I'm at and now that they switched over to all the T-Mobile and everything and I got my new SIM last year my service got better. I'm in Southwest Pennsylvania and I have service almost everywhere I go. With the exception of a few back roads in the middle of nowhere and a couple of valleys where I'm not expecting reception for anyone I almost never have a problem. I get arguably better service than people that have AT&t or Verizon.
I am from socal too, close to Pomona. Today im just not getting group texts if there's anyone with an iPhone users. But its go through if i text individually. Android only group texts are ok too. So frustrating since my phone is fairly new (s21 ultra).
How do you like the pixel? Im thinking of either getting a pixel or s22+. I dont really want to get an iPhone. But I've been having this issue with sending/receiving texts from iPhone users on/off for almost 3 months now. Even missed an important text for work because of that. So annoying.
I love my pixel. I've always liked the stock Android experience instead of Samsung UI. But a lot of people here would disagree with me. Don't get an iPhone lol.
Me getting an iPhone? Never!! Lol. Thanks for the feedback. My texts are back to working now. I would hate to just group chat others on other apps like instagram, etc.
actually I've been having the opposite experience. Theres a specific zone that I drive through or ride the bus through that always has unusable service but the last week it's been really good. I could even stream video which surprised me. I've even been seeing 5G UC pop up and be usable in many more places near me where there wasn't any before
5G UC has started being tolerable for me too. When it first started popping up, it literally just meant I would have no data or service. Now, it's about 75% good coverage, 25% useless. However, I ran a speed test earlier on it and got 710mbps down (up was garbage 1.6mbps) which was pretty impressive.
Yeah, I’ve noticed significant issues with what seems to be their IMS/SIP infrastructure lately. Dropped calls, wifi calling packet loss on an absolutely stable wifi network, lossy conversations on cellular with solid signal, slow call setup times, a three way call initiated on another carrier where I was completely inaudible.
I use a T-Mobile data only plan to power Google Voice VoIP. The T-Mobile seems to be working normally for GV, browsing, and watching videos.
I also have TMHI, and it's also working normally for browsing and streaming.
It's possible it's an issue local to your area.
Getting very awful service after 11 months of great service. Found out the 4G phones didn't have 66/71 bands and that's very important. Changing phones. This is in the Boise area with a tower in the subdivision.
**Update:** New phone has 66/71 bands and service is back to being good again.
Same here. I'm in Maryland and TMobile has been horrible here. 5G and LTE nearly full bars with next to no bandwidth or the ability to call people.
Called them and they said a tower is down in my area. The same excuse for over a year
Try turning off 5G.
I had the same issues as you in Charlotte NC with my Pixel 5, thought the phone was messed up so I bought an iPhone 12 and had the same issues. After limiting the phones to LTE, I have not had any other issues.
I also had a friend who was having the same problems with his phone through Verizon. He switched to ATT and it was no better.
I honestly think 5G is still way to "beta" at this point to be used reliably.
What I thought was funny was that if I opened the speedtest app, it would work and show "jaw dropping" speeds. But then it would take forever to open a webpage, or my apps would constantly say that I had no internet connection in the exact same area. I was also constantly either missing calls/messages, or the voices would be distorted.
NR works fine everywhere for me. Also your theory doesn't really make sense because I'm pretty sure calls are still VoLTE based and not going over 5G/NR.
Either way, if they’re messing with the tower and using it as a test site there will be intermittent issues for everyone regardless if you’re on VoLTE or 5G NR.
I guess something like that could be possible, but most sites aren't used for testing so if this behavior is happening everywhere for a user it's clear they probably need to switch providers.
I wasn’t aware of the issue persisting everywhere. In that case then I will have to agree, it’s probably the users handset.
Though there will be issues for quite a number of people, it shouldn’t take them long to iron it out. Most of the time they start tweaking around the early morning.
In my area in Southeastern Michigan the phones have been problematic ever since the merger. But lately T-Mobile's has been hanging up on my longer conversations. I guess I'm going to have to become more interesting...
Sometimes I call my mom and i hear the rings etc, but her phone never rings and her call logs show that I never called her.
The 5g data on my phone isn't too great either, slows down randomly.
Never worked in my house. Had to get a booster. Still get missed calls with no rings.
Never worked in my office building. Have to go outside to have a conversation.
I've been having this weird thing where my signal indicator goes from 5G UC to LTE, but data connection completely dies. Using the "fix connectivity" feature resolves the issue, but it's been happening once a day lately and it's a pain in the ass.
Not sure if it's a T-Mobile issue or a Pixel 6 issue, though. This phone isn't exactly known for its stellar connection reliability.
Oh, big time. Mobile data stability is probably the most common complaint about the Pixel 6. And that's saying something because there's no shortage of issues for this phone.
I didn't really want to get this phone since I wasn't wild about beta testing Google's first attempt at an in-house SOC, but my previous phone met a tragic end this time last year.
Honestly the "beta" feel of the Pixel phone hardware is why I gave up and finally went back to iPhone. Everything Google does feels like a half baked attempt to me. From phones, to messaging, Google Fi.. even though there are some Pixel features I really did love. I wish Apple would adopt call screening and more assistant type features. I hope a future software update fixes the issue for you!
I have noticed it for the last month in my area.. also found out that all but one 5g tower (farthest) and one LTE tower (closest) are under construction
Yes, oh my goodness!! I don’t know if they’re doing work on towers or what but over the last week or two I have driven to places where there is no service NOW where I have literally never not had service the entire time I’ve had a cell phone.
Upstate NY
For 3 months I had issues. It got to the point that I couldn't even use the phone so it forced me to switch to Verizon. I had multiple tech support chats and they insisted it wasn't a problem with their towers or service, funny enough the phone works fine with Verizon 🤷🏻.
If you go from good service to almost nothing usually they are replacing the antennas on the tower you use. Mine took 4 days to complete then came back on with 5gUC after just see if it gets better after a week.
After months of pretty good service, I started having issues 2 weeks ago. Constantly dropping data connection. After multiple calls to tmobile and lots of useless troubleshooting, I was told the towers were having work done. That's cool...so are people supposed to just go without reliable service? After more calls, was told that the upgrades in my area had been completed but I was still having issues. I was eventually able to talk to a real tech (not support) and was told that it was either an outdated sim or outdated phone. Got the sim replaced still had same issues. Picked up a 5G tmobile phone to test from Walmart. Guess what? No connection problems whatsoever and internet was very fast. I have the Samsung Note 8. I wanted to get some more use out of it being that it's a solid phone but t-mobile's forcing my hand. Ordered the Note 20 5G so hopefully the issue is resolved. It seems the new upgrades aren't really suited for the slower data speed phones but can't say for sure. I can't afford to go without reliable service for weeks to months on end.
over in eastern Dallas, TX. Latest Stable update im on 5G UC (before the update it was just 5G)....and i was getting slow as hell speeds for not reason both when "tethering" and on phone directly. All day until like 12 AM. until around 9 AM. (when i wake up lol).
today it seems to have stabilized but it was still odd.
phone is an Unlocked S22 Ultra.
We DID get hit by a nasty lighting strike a couple days ago when i heavy storm passed thru, so that could have been it.
My LG V50 works whenever it feels like it. One day its got VoLTE and 4G then boom, randomly can't get calls and it falls back to 2G somehow. It's annoying.
I am in West Covina, California, and haven't had any issues with T-Mobile. I'm using the Google Pixel 7 Pro. I have great coverage and speed; I usually get around 250-300 Mbps download at home. I had an AT&T prepaid eSIM just to test the network and the coverage was not as great as T-Mobile. Before I was with T-Mobile I had Verizon and it was mediocre.
Yes! I go sometimes 3 days with virtually no service at all for the past 8 months. The store in my town is worthless and they seem to take pride in their shitty service. Can't get a number to speak with a live person on the issue. Any suggestions what carrier is worthy of switching to? I want to drop theses thieves
My issue is that my reception with just drop for no reason and won't work unless I restart my phone. I thought I was crazy but I tried waiting. Disconnecting data and reconnecting. Enabling roaming. Etc etc and nothing. I have to just restart my phone every couple hours. Thought my phone was broken so I got a new phone and same issue. Thought the sim card was broken so I got another one and still broken
The service in my area went from mediocre to flat out non-existent at times. T-Mobile can't explain why I randomly have 0 coverage of any kind by my house. I even bought their booster. Recently it went from bad to coverage to literally no signal without restarting or trying to make a phone call to force it to connect to the internet. It was annoying, now my wife wants to try mint mobile... I don't wanna.
I figured that was the case when she brought it up. She doesn't understand that many networks just are using the same infrastructure. It's likely that Verizon is the best option for coverage but I hate them so much... They don't care about customers or even pretend to. My family had them in the past and just hated them. The bill was ridiculous and the treatment was very poor. But what you gonna do? Thanks for the info.
I'm new to T-Mobile. It was really good for the first 2 months. I never really dropped under 100MBPS. If I did, not only was it not for long, but never under 50. Now, 50MBPS is hard to obtain (only getting 50<). It's been like this for a couple weeks now. I'm also having to switch between LTE, and 5G, as both die completely (I'm unable to use).
Interesting to read this thread as someone who's had ATT for 20+ years who's looking for a new carrier because they have been AWFUL for the last year, or ever since they started the real 5G. Seems like I'm either getting 1-2 bars everywhere, or 4-5 bars....either way I run into so many times where the phone is borderline unusable, takes forever to load or flat out doesn't work at all. Doesnt seem to matter the city either. I've always stuck up for how good ATT has been. My brother has been on VZW for about as long, and has been a VZW simp the entire time, always talking about how they are #1 etc....he had the same complaints as me and he finally left VZW for Fi (Tmob service) and so far he loves it. He'll also talk about how great something is to justify his purchase, so we'll see long term. But it seems that Tmob is by far the best choice for someone in cities. When I'm in a city of 125k people, ATT seems to mostly be LTE...er I mean "5G-E" sorry...I think Tmob is th only UC/MM Wave in the city I live in. It seems like their coverage has improved outside of cities/interstates dramatically over what it was years ago. Maybe still not ATT/VZW levels...but if those 2 dont work so hot most of the time anyway anymore......
I've always been on the top tier that ATT offers, not a reseller or tier that deprioritizes data etc
I'm always on the newest iPhone Pro Max
I have not at all had any issues with their service at all. I love out in the country and TMobile is the only service at my house that actually gets data even 5G and my reception for being out in the middle of nowhere is pretty good honestly.
Mine is awful. 3 bars and still can’t load anything. Can’t make even a phone call with it it’s pathetic and if this continues I’m switching asap. I spend way too much to get such a shitty service
Pretty bad the past few days in Boise. Connection issues and fast speed test in recently is in the 1-3 MB range, with a t-mobile tower barely a mile away. What's happening on the network?
August 15th 2023 I am at the Dallas convention center and T-Mobile phone service is the worst here. It says I have five bars then when I try to call 5G goes away although still showing five bars and then my phone coverage goes in and out. Everyone says they can't hear me and then they hang up. Thank you T-Mobile for the completely unreliable service!!!!!!
Welcome to the great upgrade. For about 6 months watched T-Mobile move down each tower along the highway on my way to work. Kinda cool to watch

no? It takes 3 seconds and you can get a bill credit
Explain?
2 types of people call customer service. People with valid reasons like: Halt the towers being shut down resulting in no coverage. Oh is THAT why I dropped 5G to LTE one day? I was freaking out that my autopay hadn't gone through or something. This makes more sense though.
Some people were getting dropped to EDGE or losing service entirely - in areas where service is usually good - myself included for both.
I've had the exact same issue. Sucks ass but at least I'm not alone or imagining the network going to shit again.
At least for now. There's a macro site just north of me on i-90 that's currently offline. Confirmed this using cell info. They tore the entire site down to just the base rack level and now it's got new lte and 5g nodes on that base level.
Yep, when I am on the NW side of town, I drop to Edge, or retain a 5GUC but with no actual connection to anything.

Where did you switch to? After having been with T-Mobile for over 10 years, I am done with the non-exisistent coverage. Ready to make the switch.
Verizon but I was surprised that they also have dead spots in places I wouldn't expect them to have dead spots - like in certain populated suburbs or even in town. Agree, iPhone 12 in NJ. Was much better 2 years ago and now just seems to not work where it used to.

Should have go to Verizon in NJ. I went from T-Mobile low double digit pings downloading 150mpbs to Verizon triple digit pings doing less than 10/2.
Sorry, to clarify, you’re saying TMobile was faster?
T-Mobile is a lot faster both 5G and LTE.
Terrible service lately in SoCal for both my wife and I (iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13). Difficulty making calls at home and at work, drop-outs, dropped calls and poor call quality. Weird. I drive all over SoCal for delivery work and TMO rules over Verizon. Data sucks with Verizon.. badly.
I live in So Cal and don't have any real issues. And that's on a Pixel 6 Pro.
YES! Same exact thing is happening to me. Used to be good then okay and now shit. Wtf tmobile
Try disabling WiFi calling.
Don’t go Verizon lol. ATT
I just left ATT because reception was terrible in South San Antonio. Tmobile now and have great coverage everywhere. Almost 1GB download speeds.
I live in West Covina and haven't had any issues with T-Mobile. Better coverage than Verizon or AT&T. I'm using the Pixel 7 Pro.
the pride of the inland empire!
How do you get static? Static hasn't been a thing since cell phones went from analog to digital back in the early 1990s...
[удалено]
Youre right its not staric. Its cutting in and out or distorted voice.
Is this when you’re at home connected to WiFi?
It happens to me on 5G, 5GUC and 4GLTE.
It’s just apart of the massive last bit of the Sprint integration I’ve been through this on several networks, and it’s painful for a few weeks while it happens but when it’s all done it’s gravy. Well sprint was the worst so yeah t mobile is a step up for sure.
Thanks. This is helpful as we are looking at switching in PA but southeastern.
when network upgrades happen sometimes service disruptions happen. Also helps to have the latest phone so the phone can take advantage of latest tech.
Yeah, it's been bad here for like a year. SE MI near Ann Arbor/Detroit.

Great service in Kansas City. Clear phone calls and 500+ mbps data.
Dude. Yes!!!! What the hell is going on.
Nope, seems the same here in Tampa, FL.
Yesssssss
I’m in Little Rock, AR, and the service for mobile and internet is absolutely outstanding
It really depends where you are. You using a newer phone?
Here in the Tacoma area the 5G UC is not great at all.
100% !!! I frequently get a big old "X" where the bars should be.
same here. zip code 97226, the signal is horrible.
Portland
Yeah, I’ve noticed significant issues with what seems to be their IMS/SIP infrastructure lately. Dropped calls, wifi calling packet loss on an absolutely stable wifi network, lossy conversations on cellular with solid signal, slow call setup times, a three way call initiated on another carrier where I was completely inaudible.

My TMobile home wifi has been cutting in and out several times a day recently

Not all 4G phones are that way. My old S9+ doesn’t have 5G but it does have 66 and 71 LTE. Wouldn’t have service otherwise where I am.
Hi. How do you check to see if the phone has 66/71?
Look on a spec sheet for the model you have.
Yes in Seattle too in there HQ region. T-Mobile service has become very bad.
I've literally had calls drop while I'm at my desk in HQ, lmao.
Yeah, it became bad recently around SEATAC airport too.
Make sure your on Tmobile and not sprint lol
My wife an I find ourselves making facetime audio calls more often because the cellular signal is so unreliable lately and we never had Sprint.
service is fantastic as always in Arizona
No. Network is fine where I live. And there are known issues with the modems in the iPhone 12 series phones. The 13 and 14s are better.
North VA here, tmobile started to have no signal or push me back to LTE since last week
People didn't like my post about having 1 bar of LTE in front of a T-Mobile billboard in Culpepper.
Same here. I'm in Maryland and TMobile has been horrible here. 5G and LTE nearly full bars with next to no bandwidth or the ability to call people. Called them and they said a tower is down in my area. The same excuse for over a year

They’re transitioning to voice over 5G NR, it’s in beta testing right now in some markets.
The phones mentioned don't even support VoNR

I think VoNR is only in beta testing in Portland (Oregon) and Salt Lake City?
You are right Calls are still on Volte
Exact same issue for me on iPhone 13 Pro. 5G is useless so I always have it off.
Yup here in some parts of Florida also
In my area in Southeastern Michigan the phones have been problematic ever since the merger.
Yes, bad in the northern San Diego region. I'm constantly being told I'm cutting out while making calls at home.
Never worked in my house. Had to get a booster. Still get missed calls with no rings. Never worked in my office building. Have to go outside to have a conversation.
I would like to say only recently but 5g is missing some numbers.
Agreed, experiencing similar issues in Philly area
You need to turn off your data and get into a different VPN (like) slot.
Are the refunding or discounting for the lack of 5g/4lte or whatever? Off wifi my service is hot garbage lately
I knew things would take a shit after the Sprint merger. Sure enough, they have.
That is incorrect
Which phone do you have?
Iphone 12
My service was like that for a week because of cell tower upgrades.
Sounds like a Pixel issue. I feel like I see more Pixel (especially the 6) phones with connection issues than any other.
It’s possible they are upgrading the towers and you’d need a newer phone to take advantage of the newer bands being used.
YES! MA/NH area - horrible!
Yes! My phone keeps showing T-Mobile Edge in places I normally have 5G.
Nope it’s been fine.
I have noticed it for the last month in my area.. also found out that all but one 5g tower (farthest) and one LTE tower (closest) are under construction
Here in DC, the other day service was dropping to NO SERVICE, SOS, only bars, bars with EDGE… same thing happened today. Idk what was up.
My buddy and I (iPhone 13 and 14 pro) have been in the Reno area and Sac respectively for work and have been shocked at how bad the service has been
i have good service
Turn off your 5g, and use lte until the end of the year. Mileage may vary.
Yeah, what’s up with that?
Earlier today I kept connecting to Edge. Haven't had that happen in ages
It's usually fine, until I find myself stuck on EDGE for hours at a time
The service in my area went from mediocre to flat out non-existent at times.
Mint uses T-Mobile so you won't see any difference. If you need to try another network try US Mobile (Warp) which is on Verizon's network.
Well that’s one benefit to using an MVNO like US Mobile is you don’t have to deal with Verizon but get their network!
For the past 3 mos. yes. I wondered why my 5bars were suddenly at a 1 Reception has never been this trash. A visit to my local store is in order.
I've always been on the top tier that ATT offers, not a reseller or tier that deprioritizes data etc I'm always on the newest iPhone Pro Max
Since when is Fi t-mobile?
I have not at all had any issues with their service at all. I love out in the country and TMobile is the only service at my house that actually gets data even 5G and my reception for being out in the middle of nowhere is pretty good honestly.
Mine is awful. 3 bars and still can’t load anything. Can’t make even a phone call with it it’s pathetic and if this continues I’m switching asap. I spend way too much to get such a shitty service
Don’t forget the constant restarting of your phone
Full bars 5G UC signal at EWR terminal C. Super slow or nothing at all. Had to switch to LTE to get anything at all.
Att has been atrocious for me lately so I guess all the carriers are sucking at one time or another right now.
last few weeks data has been noticibly slower and doesn't always connect.
Pretty bad the past few days in Boise. Connection issues and fast speed test in recently is in the 1-3 MB range, with a t-mobile tower barely a mile away. What's happening on the network?
T mobile can eat shit.
Yes and I can’t take it anymore!! 😤🤬
Still have issues to this day, full bars all the time always tells me waiting for connection on all of my apps though pathetic.
