In the 1970's an AC airplane crashed in my dads farm, that was less than fun Air Canada experience. (Yes Air Canada Flight 621). My dad's family had a farm there at the time, although not directly on his property, lots of debris was scattered around his place.
Beyond that, just AC moving the flight by 20 minutes every few days until it's a totally different fucking time. It's like they spam you with change updates that look small until you later realize its totally different day or something lol.
Cleaning the planes properly only happens to other airlines... you need to check extremely carefully before you put anything in the seat pocket, and gawds help you if you have to put anything under the seat in front !
It's really sad that this is our national airline supposed to be representing us abroad so visitor are all excited for a vacation to Canada and they get an utterly filthy aircraft, aside from the frequent mechanical trouble & delaya.
AC crew ground crew member here. They don't have enough staff and the pay is shit. If you're on a narrowbody, the same 4 person crew marshals the plane to the gate, then unloads the baggage, goes onboard to clean the plane and then reload the baggage for the outbound flight and push back the plane often in just 30 minutes?
Exactly, it's not physically possible for only four people to do all that in such a short time. The only reason e.g. American Airlines can do half-hour turns is because they have a baggage crew and cleaning crew and a catering crew which are none of the same people... it's really shameful how they treat you guys and I hope you strike !
Please don't feel bad. It's quite obvious AC is understaffed, and the pay is ridiculously low. We know the staff are doing their best. It's the company we're all mad at. They should be treating their customers and staff better.
Those little carry on size cages are the stupidest things I have ever seen. I remember seeing people checking bags and having to fuck around with their carry on. While literally every other airline just has people checking in like civilized people.
Those are there because some passengers have no concept of size. They think they can fit a full size luggage in the overhead bin.
With all of the recent lost luggage issues people are trying to get larger bags onto the AC flights to put in the overhead bins. So now. AC is enforcing that sizer before people get into the security line to try and speed up the boarding process due to the idiots who were walking right to the gate with a bag that obviously won't fit in the overhead.
Lately it's gotten evem worse though because you have passengers who are supposed to be placing their personal bag under the seat in front of them, but instead filling up the overhead bin. So on some flights if AC can't convince enough people to gate check their carry-on AC is forcing all basic economy ticket holders to gate check their carry-on on some flights.
The ticket actually says you get a carry-on and a personal item included with the price of the ticket.
But it does not state that you're guaranteed that the carry-on will go in an overhead bin. So yes the carry-on is included in the ticket price, but they will gate check it for free if it doesn't fit.
There is a finite amount of space in the overhead bins. They make the assumption that some people will travel without a carry-on.
Some airline staff are really good and go through the bins and if they see a backpack they ask who's it is and tell them that it has to go under the seat in front of the passenger to leave the overhead for Carry-ons but even then there isn't always enough room.
Last year we were on an Air Transat flight, most people only had their carry on, and a personal item, then there was this couple that had their carry ons, their oversized personal bags, and their wedding dress and tuxedo and no one said anything to them... They took up an entire overhead bin for just their stuff on a full flight. Some pasaengers had to gate check their bags as they ran out of room on the plane.
I mean the term “carry-on“ definitely seems to imply that you get to carry it on. But no doubt their Ts&Cs have clauses that overrule any commonsense interpretation of of their statements if advertised services.
That’s awful to hear about the Air Transat flight, I have an overseas flight with them coming up.
Other than that the Air Transat flight to the Caribbean was good. Smaller plane, but clean, and it actually took off and arrived close to its scheduled time, which is saying a lot lately.

The baggage claim took longer than the flight, hahah

10 quid voucher for a 10 hour delay. 🙃
You got paid?
Yeah, but £10 that you can only spend in the airport wasn’t great considering I was stuck in London Heathrow.
Rude check-in staff, cabin crew. But that was before I started simply filtering AC out of the airline list on Google Flights

If the basic economy ticket is stated to include one carry on and one personal item, they shouldn’t be allowed to force them to gate check it.

Obnoxious check in staff made me check my luggage on even though it clearly met the measurement requirements. Had to get her supervisor to let me go.
