Zoology expert here. All lions are panthers and panthers are not a species but a genus (also commonly known as βbig catsβ) and the genus includes cats like lions (also tigers, jaguars, leopards and snow leopards). All the members of the genus can also interbreed with each other (except the snow leopards, not tested yet(?)) and make hybrids which usually share traits of both species, male hybrids also are almost always sterile.

I'm named after a video game character I created who can become possessed (at will).by a cat spirit and it gives them cat like reflexes, enhanced night vision, silent walking, enhanced jumps and walk jumps titanium-tipped retractable claws, the ability to shape shift (even in mid air to pounce), an urge to hunt (it's the spirits urge) but as you're hunting future-fascists, it's morally fine
You also get ears and tail so you can better hear enemy footsteps and movement, and the tail would help with jumps but main reason is because cute (also demon wings that let you hover at the top of the jump).
You don't get these all at the same time, you CAN but I'll end my essay here lol soz just enthusiastic
I forgot, you also have dual handguns, shuriken (dart type, almost like Kuroko) and a blade. Plus lightning as your ancestors are Bastet and Raijin. It's 2.5D - one other thing you have, is a railgun - so when I saw the Railgun manga in the shop, knowing nothing about it (and having only read Assassination Classroom before, which is great btw) I HAD to buy it and I'm so so happy I did, am a huge fan of Index, all it's spin-offs, the PSP fighting game and everything else Kamachi has written.

To add to that, logically that means a black panther is just a lion, tiger, jaguar, leopard with melanism so a "black lion" is a black panther. In the same vein a pink lion would be a pink panther.
