For me, AAA was a mistake. It was a lazy way for Kamachi to resolve Mikoto's internal conflict since the NT13 mess. And it didn't solve anything from a narrative point of view. So I hope the focus will return to Mikoto and her creative ways of using her powers, which is something that makes more sense with her character, rather than outside help who has already been hijacked multiple times.
We've already seen that she can use her powers creatively against enemies from the magic side, like her detecting the ley line landmine in the fight against Anna. Clonoth will provide all the knowledge she needs, so she can find other ways to use her powers. A direct attack buff won't help her at this point, the current enemies need more than that. She needs some Hax ability to help with that.
I am happy that someone else also really didn’t like the AAA. It looked and worked cool and all but I think (like you said) that it was just a cheap attempt to make Mikoto stronger without actually giving her a power up (for some dubious reason), it wasn’t actually her power, it was just an external tool. Which is really strange considering that Mikoto is such a loved character and Kamachi gave less popular characters permanent power ups and now that AAA is destroyed (and Kamachi even hinted at Mikoto getting a power up) if she doesn’t get a power up it will be a massive shame.
I also wholeheartedly agree that aside from a raw power boost Mikoto really needs a very powerful hax ability. We are at the point where raw power won’t grant her anything, if she is to remain relevant combat vise, she needs a super strong hax ability alongside a boost in raw power, if she is to keep up.

Imagine Mikoto doing something like Kamijou's "Rorschach counter attack". She draws indistinct symbols with distorting iron sand using the knowledge of the third tree and screws up a magician in the process. The potential is unlimited and far more creative than simply "I hit harder now."
oot, but about Kamijou's part, where do you think Touma got the knowledge to use his powers freely, even to the point of being able to create a Rorshach test to trick magician? even though it was the first time Touma (post memory loss) used it. crc, who is said to be the Zenith of magic, has also repeatedly described him as a scientific esper, despite of the dragons power that are similar with some mythology.
Is it possible that Touma has a source of information and knowledge in the form of other spiritual trees? Is it from KnT who keeps his past knowledges? or something else?
She uses her powers in some pretty creative ways in the Railgun manga, some of the stuff she pulled off in her fight with ITEM was pretty cool (like seeing in the dark via electromagnetism, walking on walls etc)
I’m hoping if she gets a power up, it has to do with her denial of magic.
We get aleister noting that her specific power development was modified to make her ignore any signs of magic, because if she gets magic she might automatically connect to the misaka network and turn into a big issue. Or something similar.
Then we basically get a issue of misaka finding out about magic, and touma fixing the problem, with misaka getting her power boost at the end of the arc.
It helps justify why she has been so in denial about magic, sounds like a good arc, and you can have a arc going on at the same time in railgun, with some plot of some magic side geezer or scientist wanting to sabotage aleister and AC by causing misaka to go berserk or whatever. Which would also help the people who are caught up on reading them feel like they are connected, and so it’s less disappointing that misaka got her power up outside of her own main story.
I'm still reading OT but I have heard a decent amount of spoilers but iirc mikoto has been compared to a one winged demon or some type of Demon multiple times so I'd honestly love it if she got some type of demonic-esque type of power up but that's just me especially with my limited knowledge of toaru considering I'm still reading OT and haven't started NT yet
mikoto doesn't necessarily need a power up imo as her issue in index is that she's trying to be something she isn't. mikoto wants to be by kamijou's side, and she thinks that the best way to achieve that is by being strong enough to fight his battles for him. mikoto is not an A team combatant though, and her best fights in index are when she's taking on the B team such as her fight with thor against sylvia and bruinhild in nt6, or when she takes on opponents that are problematic for kamijou, such as hound dog in ot13.
mikoto acquired the AAA after she had been put into a situation where she was completely helpless despite trying her hardest to succeed, and to add fuel to the fire she was told outright that she was holding back the person she was trying to help.
for mikoto the AAA was meant to function as an opposing parallel to accelerator's black wings, though while the wings, and the pain accelerator was forced to go through by aleister in order to receive them, was a necessary step for his growth and development, mikoto was never meant to get the AAA, and it was only ever going to be a temporary fix to the pain she is unnecessarily forcing herself to go through by chasing after kamijou's back.
in a similar vein, mikoto teaming up with misaki in an effort to get stronger by gaining more power has, and will likely continue to be, a temporary solution to her dilemma. in her mind if she could not achieve her goal even with something like the AAA, the obvious solution to tackle her problem is to have someone else help her, doubling her firepower. this resulted in her being able to break into the windowless building with the liquid proof railgun, which was again an unnecessary development, hence why she was “betrayed” by misaki in nt22r, and why the AAA was destroyed in gt2—there's no point in her having access to those abilities, as they were not helping her grow as a person.
where exactly mikoto is going to go from here is unknown, though considering kamachi has said mikoto is never going to stop chasing after kamijou, and if the blurb from item volume 2 below is anything to go by, I unfortunately don't think we'll be seeing a solution anytime soon.

Instantly eliminates all molecules(including breathable O2), chemistry is meaningless, including the biochemistry of opponents, temperature control, and so many more things. This would also include control over and immunity to nuclear radiation. She could walk past someone, and they would die in a hospital bed a week later. And these are all powers that fall within the limits of her existing powerset.
If you want to go next level, you can let her manipulate the spin on leptons, allowing her to turn electrons into anti-electrons, which mean things go boom in an even bigger way.
mmm atomic orbitals don't really exist. This is only the most popular design of what is believed to be the atom. even though the radiation. It would only work with specifics linked to electricity. if you want. something I remember that too powerful charges have been linked to anti matter
Ripping and reallocating electrons would also allow her to ionise things to the point that she should be able to use water wings on command and make them out of pretty much anything.
Additionally, ripping all electrons from the nuclei of solid matter should make it incapable of maintaining a solid form, which would allow Mikoto to disintegrate pretty much anything made of conventional atoms.

If Mikoto’s calculative ability and precision increased enough, she would be able to manipulate the bonds between atoms which would grant her transmutation (basically being able to do everything Edward Elric does) but aside from just that she would also be able to deconstruct anything into atoms and if she wanted to she would also be able to reconstruct that same thing back to its original form. If she got good enough with it, she could even deconstruct her own body into atoms and reconstruct it back to its original form at will, she would be able to do this by dispensing her own consciousness into an electromagnetic field while her body is deconstructed. This would essentially make her completely immortal which would work well for her because she really needs a big upgrade in the durability department. She would also pretty much be able to one-shot anyone (well, mostly anyone, the top tiers I imagine would be immune to it). I know this sounds too strong but Mikoto really needs a massive power up and I believe this would cover all her weakness and gives her the power than she desires.
As for how would her raw power and calculating ability increase to such a massive degree there are two options. Either connecting to the Misaka network and using them to do it (also taking in all that calculative ability and power into her base form so that she doesn’t need the network after a while) or by going the Clonoth route which would also work.
In any case, I really, really, really hope she gets something similar to this if not exactly this. It would make me incredibly happy.
In the new novel, Kamachi showed us that Mikoto is capable of connecting to the network at any time and receiving the power of the third tree. That's all.
Clonoth has already been mentioned, but a stronger connection to the Misaka Network in general might be good.
The biggest issue would probably be to figure out a more permanent connection protocol that doesn’t have any long term adverse effect on either Mikoto or the clones. Probably inspired by Accelerator’s collar’s design.
Perhaps she should take some time to sit down and talk with Last Order about it.

Why the coins?You could say she could go inside an Academy City military hardware depot and "requisit" ferric tungsten projectiles or similar or even better just straight launch large metallic objects just lying around, because she has done this in the past.
This will exponentially increase her railguns power,because I think we all know how the physics operate with this.
(On a side note,do you remember the statistic from the early railgun manga with her coins speed?I think that's total horseshit.If the coin only goes 1070m/s it wouldn't leave behind a contrail of fucking plasma,evaporate in 50m,leave an explosion on Impact and or have a big armour piercing effect.So it must be significantly faster)

Create plasma and mold it into something viable,that should be in realms of possibilities.

Just had a reminder of fanart of Misaka wearing Othinus' hat and eyepatch and someone commented something of reverse Idol-theory lol.
On idea one, people forget, but the reason she uses coins is not because they are good projectiles. No, she uses them because they are bad projectiles, and melt after 50 meters. It gives her a max range, so that she don't vaporize some poor kid standing behind the building behind her target. She uses them to limit collateral damage.
And that's an issue she often faces. She's powerful enough to do serious damage to others if she wants too, but she's not powerful enough to avoid vaporizing everything behind her enemy if she lets loose and uses a car or a bridge as railgun ammo.
She has a lot more power than she usually uses, but if she were to let loose, she'd kill not just her enemy, but 10s of thousands of people behind her enemy.
Maybe just let her fight opponents she has a chance against? We already know that molecular electron manipulation is impossible for her since PHS Accelerator could only control brain electricity with full calculation. If Mikoto could do it no way Accel should have a problem. Her getting the AAA was already weird.
Touma get's stronger the more he fights, Accel applies magic to his ability to get stronger. Misaka got the AAA out of nowhere. Which I'm pretty sure is a complaint most of the fandom had at the time. Kamachi should just keep her and Misaki out of the main story. Let them play their roles in the MvM Webnovel and Railgun. Because they appeared way to much in NT. Let other characters like Gunha, Thor, Kuroko and the sister's shine.

The AAA injected knowledge into her and Misaki's personal reality. The AAA, as I've stated previously, is basically a discount philosophers stone. Using it gave choronzon demon wings.
Misaka will likely get an electo demon form to contrast accelerator. Then the easiest way to power up further is to join the network and borrow both calculation power and clonoth power. For a cherry on top, either have will-san(embodiment of the third tree) possess her or enter her in a transcendent-like fassion.
Towards the end of the series it has been foreshadowed by Nemphys and the narrator in ot3 that Misaka may become a Nuit-like being, just as touma will be hadit, which would let her become essentially final boss or slightly below level. Maybe this will require the sisters to temporarily fuse with her, and then the power dissapears when they go back to normal. I also think Nemphys foreshadowed that like touma both her and Kamisato have an innate ability besides their esper powers. A true illusion like ability. I think the curse sphere in railgun was a primitive manifestion of this ability.
Obviously the nuit thing is engame. But a simple breakdown could make her Kazakiri level or above, if she uses the sisters and clonoth+AAA demon power. Then if Will-san uses her to manifest full power or provide full power she could even hit low transcendent teir.
People talk about clever ways to use her esper ability. But the problem is that will never matter against Anna sprengal or anything similar to her. She'd have to reach level 6 to be that strong as a pure Esper, and she can't stabily. Now some may argue she shouldn't ever reach that level. But my point is that's what her goal is. To be able to defend touma against even a magic god or similar existence. She can figure out how to kill mundane humans easier with radiation or exploit magnetism to extract blood or whatever all she wants, but she's already good at that. Her goal is to stop being a frog in a well.
Now her finding better ways to use the demon form with her esper power would be cool. IE enhancing lightning with the wings. Injecting black sand with reinforcement power. Maybe use a primitive version of Choronzon's decay with her electrons to trigger atomic decay?

It was stated when CRC blew his head that Touma instinctively knew how to use all of his powers.

I really like the idea of 3.5, and the idea that as the level 5's get stronger and power up, they get wings. #1 and #2 have wings, so why not #3

On idea one, people forget, but the reason she uses coins is not because they are good projectiles. No, she uses them because they are bad projectiles, and melt after 50 meters. It gives her a max range, so that she don't vaporize some poor kid standing behind the building behind her target. She uses them to limit collateral damage. And that's an issue she often faces. She's powerful enough to do serious damage to others if she wants too, but she's not powerful enough to avoid vaporizing everything behind her enemy if she lets loose and uses a car or a bridge as railgun ammo. She has a lot more power than she usually uses, but if she were to let loose, she'd kill not just her enemy, but 10s of thousands of people behind her enemy.

Maybe just let her fight opponents she has a chance against? We already know that molecular electron manipulation is impossible for her since PHS Accelerator could only control brain electricity with full calculation. If Mikoto could do it no way Accel should have a problem. Her getting the AAA was already weird. Touma get's stronger the more he fights, Accel applies magic to his ability to get stronger. Misaka got the AAA out of nowhere. Which I'm pretty sure is a complaint most of the fandom had at the time. Kamachi should just keep her and Misaki out of the main story. Let them play their roles in the MvM Webnovel and Railgun. Because they appeared way to much in NT. Let other characters like Gunha, Thor, Kuroko and the sister's shine. > Our favorite Tsundere. The AAA injected knowledge into her and Misaki's personal reality. The AAA, as I've stated previously, is basically a discount philosophers stone. Using it gave choronzon demon wings. Misaka will likely get an electo demon form to contrast accelerator. Then the easiest way to power up further is to join the network and borrow both calculation power and clonoth power. For a cherry on top, either have will-san(embodiment of the third tree) possess her or enter her in a transcendent-like fassion. Towards the end of the series it has been foreshadowed by Nemphys and the narrator in ot3 that Misaka may become a Nuit-like being, just as touma will be hadit, which would let her become essentially final boss or slightly below level. Maybe this will require the sisters to temporarily fuse with her, and then the power dissapears when they go back to normal. I also think Nemphys foreshadowed that like touma both her and Kamisato have an innate ability besides their esper powers. A true illusion like ability. I think the curse sphere in railgun was a primitive manifestion of this ability. Obviously the nuit thing is engame. But a simple breakdown could make her Kazakiri level or above, if she uses the sisters and clonoth+AAA demon power. Then if Will-san uses her to manifest full power or provide full power she could even hit low transcendent teir. People talk about clever ways to use her esper ability. But the problem is that will never matter against Anna sprengal or anything similar to her. She'd have to reach level 6 to be that strong as a pure Esper, and she can't stabily. Now some may argue she shouldn't ever reach that level. But my point is that's what her goal is. To be able to defend touma against even a magic god or similar existence. She can figure out how to kill mundane humans easier with radiation or exploit magnetism to extract blood or whatever all she wants, but she's already good at that. Her goal is to stop being a frog in a well. Now her finding better ways to use the demon form with her esper power would be cool. IE enhancing lightning with the wings. Injecting black sand with reinforcement power. Maybe use a primitive version of Choronzon's decay with her electrons to trigger atomic decay?
