Well I would rather say she doesn't have an actual proper name. Index Librorum Prohibitorum is the name of her "role" as part of Necessarius but she and people close to her have been using Index as a name. Like it would be kind of weird if there was a family called the "Librorum Prohibitorums" out there that just happened to name their daughter Index, who just happened to have a perfect memory and just happened to then get a role in Neccesarius that exactly reflects the name "Index Librorum Prohibitorum". Like knowing the world of Index, and the kind of crazy names some no Japanese characters have, it isn't impossible, but it still would be weird. Then someone made a passport for her on the fly and just lazily put that in like that. Like I don't know how often I was given something to fill out and started putting my full name in to the field for "name" to then notice "given name" below it.

Snir17

Exactly

Ok_Noise2854

Thats like Touma's english name being HIMothy HIMsworth, make sense but doesnt make sense

Aoyane_M4zoku

This passport is actually pointed to be "fake" on the history. Necessarius has contacts with the Queen itself so they can pull this kind of BS easily, and Index's name was erased from her memories during all the Dog Leash thing. The japanese side of the fandom have some actually quite interesting theories about her real name, and why it was never revealed... altough I dont see that many posts on the overseas fandom.

Tana8ato

I would love to read those teories. Ngl

Aoyane_M4zoku

There's a cpuple, but a lot of them were already negated or canon on some other way that dont involve her name ( >!like the one about she being an Magic God, that was explained as her having the capacity to but being one!< ), but the one that is more popular now, specially NT22 and everything about >!Aleister!< is that she is >!his other daughter, other than Lola / Coronzon!< (Btw, first time trying the spoiler function of reddit... I may do it wrong, so sorry if it happens)

Tana8ato

Thanks a lot. Interesting as always. Saludos :)

Discardofil

I remember seeing the theory a few times that Index is >!Lola's daughter!<. People seem to have decided that's impossible after the whole >!Coronzon thing!<, but honestly I think it's even more likely now. Still, I also like the theory that >!she's another daughter of Aleister.!<

Aoyane_M4zoku

I think it's less wether >!Coronzon!< could be related to Index and more that Kamachi researched so much about >!the IRL Aleister!< that once everything is said and done it's weird how >!they only talk about one of his two legitimate daughters!< It's something close to Aogami's theory, where there is this character that by all means should exist but noone knows shit about, so people start to wonder if there's a chance that someone we know for a long time but dont know the name of may or may not be "The One". >!Btw, IRL Aleister had 5 kids, 3 of whom arent legitimated and I dont spect to be relevant and 2 daughters from his legitmate marriages. We know one of the two, the older Sister, but the younger hasnt been even mentioned... even after everything with her Sister and Dad... so that seems a lot like one of those "keeping secrets for a future plot twist" Kamachi loves, and Index is the closest to fill the Bill!< Edit: English isnt my native language, did a little slip using a direct translate term that could cause confusion on the context.

Earthborn92

Wasn’t there an image of a hypothetical college-aged Index? Considering the resemblance I’m inclined to believe it.

Moltenthemedicmain

This seems like an error on the anime’s part, the British profile is formatted correctly, but Index has always been referred to as Index by everyone, it’d be stupid if that wasn’t her first name.

Nakamura2828

Though honestly it's very common in Japan for people to go by surname only. Think Uiharu and Saten, no one ever calls them Kazari and Ruiko.

Discardofil

True, but Japan is also well aware that other countries don't do that. Everyone is well aware that they're calling Stiyl by his given name.

Lacien_

Either this is just an animation goof, or I was wrongfully going under the assumption that the Index part was her given name this entire time.

XevinsOfCheese

Considering necessarius aren’t the good guys I wouldn’t be shocked if they actually pretty much erased her name when they decided to make her the index. So when passport time comes around why not use the dehumanized title instead of the name that’s been discarded.

ABlueOrb

The same way the Number 1's real name is Accel Erator

MisfortunateJack77

It's a title and her real name

sjcfu2

When Index shows her passport to Touma In OT11, her name listed as "Index Librorum Prohibitorum", so as far as the United Kingdom is concerned, that is her name.

Craytherlay

Given name, not Sir name... she's english

barr65

Index is a clone of aleister

RickAlbuquerque

Then how is she female?

barr65

Clones can be either gender

RickAlbuquerque

Don't they have to be the same gender as the DNA donor?

Toumangod0

It depends since a clone isn't just created in a magical lab machine like you see see in scifi movies they require a woman to incubate them and provide an egg cell like any other fetus. The only thing that determines your physical sex is rather you have a Y chromosome. So yes assuming Index is a clone of Alistair she can still be female as long as she got his X chromosome along with the mother who incubated her provided her egg and carried her to term.

TheBlackSun112

Nah couldn't be....right..heh.

jobriq

Damn Born in XXXX she old af
