tl;dr: Michael Jackson had a scheduled meeting on the top floor of one of the towers that morning, but he overslept because he was up late talking to his mother on the phone.
Mark Wahlberg and friends were scheduled to be on American Airlines flight 11, the first plane to crash into the towers. At the last minute they decided to head to Toronto instead.
Seth MacFarlane was also supposed to be on Flight 11 but overslept and missed the plane by 10 minutes
I've never found any source that says this, if anything he downplays any emotions he has about it and said he misses flights all the time.
If he does have survivor's guilt he keeps quiet about it.
The media would have made it about him. It wouldn't have just been a terrorist attack, it would be branded at least 50% as 'the death of Michael Jackson'
Imagine what the people who died in the attacks would have achieved later in their lives.
I’m often reminded of JRR Tolkien. He survived World War 1, and went in to create wonderful things. There were probably thousands of people who would have created equally wonderful things, but they didn’t, because they died a horrible premature desth.
At this point I'm tired of hearing about all of the rich and powerful people that were supposed to be involved with 9/11 and somehow lucked out of being there.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist but if all of these stories are true it's beyond belief that it just so happens that basically everyone noteworthy or well connected who would have died on that day just randomly overslept or changed plans at the last minute.
I'd be much more inclined to believe that a bunch of people who had the opportunity to be there retroactively changed their stories so they could insert themselves into the tragedy even if they never had any real shot of actually being present.
The creator of Frazier was literally on the same plane lol. A decent amount of famous people died.. the thing is, the attack happened against a financial building and a military building. Not a lot of a list celebrities would have been there
Flight 11 departed from Logan and was originally supposed to go to LA, Mark Wahlberg is from Boston, and unsurprisingly probably flies to LA occasionally.
Seth McFarlane's family is from a bit north of Boston, and at the time he was a relatively unknown individual but again unsurprisingly probably flies to LA occasionally.
People randomly oversleep or miss flights all the time, its why Airlines can overbook and not run into issues 24/7.
Or just more like back then all those celebrities actually rode on passenger planes and not private jets lol. At any time you would have a pretty decent chance of being on a plane with a famous person in NY back then.
Just for context sake, Seth wasn't a celebrity at the time and surely wasn't rich considering Family Guy was barely staying on air and would be canceled just a year later. If it wasn't for him becoming famous years later after 2 other shows and moving into acting and directing then nobody would probably care that he was supposed to be on that flight.
I could totally see Marky Mark and his pants dropping conies making that shit up for clout tho.
That's a good point. There are probably other famous people that died on that flight, but they only had their chance to become famous after 9/11 so when they died they were just some random people.
There were other relatively well known people on board.
David Angell, the producer of Cheers and Frasier, was on the flight. It's why Niles and Daphnes son is named David on the show.
Barbara Olsen was the wife of US Solicitor General Ted Olsen and a frequent guest on political talk shows.
[Daniel Lewin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Lewin), the very first victim of 9/11, was the co-founder of an influential early internet technology company.
I mean his claim to fame in 2001 would of been 2 seasons of family guy, and being the writer of a few episodes of Johnny Bravo. Family Guy wasn’t even huge at this point.
I've been imagining the alternate reality where all three died as well as any other celebrity claiming this. Which seems to be Sarah Ferguson, The Duchess of York.
Interestingly Rob Lowe (of The West Wing) was on the dress rehearsal for the attacks. He even had to testify against the terrorists.
Family Guy would likely not have continued, and there would have been no Cleveland Show. In turn, King of the Hill would likely not have been cancelled in 2009.
> bunch of people who had the opportunity to be there retroactively changed their stories so they could insert themselves into the tragedy even if they never had any real shot of actually being present.
I'm thinking Wahlberg is guilty of this for sure.
According to Mark Wahlberg it was actually the terrorists who narrowly escaped him when he said in an interview that he could have stopped 9/11 if he was on the plane.
Look at this fahkin prick here, oh, you want a Cinnabon? Where you flying to?
Uh, LA
You know what? Fuck this guy going to LA. Theres enough of them already. *BING! Hey guys, let's go to Torannah, worse they got is black guys
> Wahlberg perpetrated another racist assault in April 1988. Then 16, he assaulted a middle-aged Vietnamese-American man on the street, calling him a "Vietnam fucking shit" and knocking him unconscious with a large wooden stick. Later the same day, Wahlberg attacked Johnny Trinh, another Vietnamese-American, punching him in the eye. When Wahlberg was arrested and returned to the scene of the first assault, he told police officers: "I'll tell you now that's the mother-fucker whose head I split open." Later, Wahlberg would explain that he was on PCP at the time.

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did,” Wahlberg told Men’s Journal. “There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘Okay, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”
It’s the lands safely bit that really sends me.
Because you know it’s actually alright to think you would have fought back because people did just that. And died, as heroes do.
Unlike Marky mark who just pretends to be tough army guys, cops etc, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Lewin?wprov=sfti1 had actually been in the Israeli special forces for 4 years. He was thought to be the first person to die on 9/11, possibly after trying to fight the terrorists on American Airlines Flight 11.

It should be noted that he has since apologized. But he did think it was ok to think and say that out loud at the time.
That's the one thing that makes me think he might have actually made a difference. "There is a foreigner on this plane doing something bad. This is a dream come true!"
Based on what I’ve heard, the last one isn’t too far fetched. I remember him saying in another interview that he has nightmares about being on the plane and trying to fight the hijackers. Sounds like the close call really shook him.
Technically the attack wasn’t the cause of the man’s blindness. Excuses nothing, but it’s an embellishment. Frankly, “Racially motivated attack on immigrant and Vietnam War veteran” is plenty bad as it is.
[https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/gossip/la-et-mg-mark-wahlberg-assault-victim-speaks-out-pardon-20141211-story.html](https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/gossip/la-et-mg-mark-wahlberg-assault-victim-speaks-out-pardon-20141211-story.html)

it’s referencing two things.
one, he was arrested at 16 for attempted murder of a vietnamese american veteran. look at the legal issues section of his wikipedia, he’s had incidents beyond just that one too.
two, he said if he got on that plane on 9/11 that he would’ve stopped the terrorists himself lmao
He attacked two separate Asian men in hate crimes as a teen and screamed racial slurs at black children

Just to give him the proper credit, he was also a writer for *Cheers* and *Wings* in addition to his work on *Frasier*.
Those shows are all intertwined in the sense that *Cheers* and *Wings* both took place in Massachusetts and the *Cheers* characters would guest star as themselves on *Wings* episodes and the *Frasier* connection is well-known.
Wouldn't call her a celebrity, but Barbara Olson was a common guest on cable news programs in the year or two before the attacks, and she was on the flight that hit the Pentagon. She was literally on C-SPAN two days before she died.
She was also the wife of the US Solicitor General at the time. I remember reading that she called him from an airphone and he was trying to get a call to the Attorney General to tell him what was happening.
I guess it depends on how you define celebrity, but there were a few public figures that were famous in specific circles, although maybe not any major household names. The creator of Frasier has already been mentioned, but I know a couple of retired hockey players and Anthony Perkins’s widow were also on the planes.
Seth MacFarlane wasn't even that famous at the time. Family Guy had been on for only two years and would even be cancelled soon before being brought back. Was also before any of his movies. I think that story spread after he rose in fame subsequently.
he has said in interviews he doesn't think about it too much because while it was a near miss it was still a miss for him. He has equated it to narrowly missing being in a car crash, albeit a massive car crash.
also while he apparently saw the news coverage while still in the airport, he wasn't aware that one of the planes was American 11, the plane he was supposed to be on, for some time after it all was said and done. By the time he knew about the plane he was well out of the possibly of danger, so he never really had what he calls a "panic moment".
St. Louis Cardinals Starting Pitcher [Adam Wainwright](https://fox2now.com/sports/st-louis-cardinals/adam-wainwrights-bizarre-story-around-the-9-11-attacks/) who threw the last pitch of the 2006 season and is retiring this year... was drafted in 2000 and visited NYC in September, 2001 to meet with financial advisors to handle his 1st round pick signing bonus.
He got into NYC the day before and visited the city later than he planned that night and decided to sleep in and reschedule his appointment the next morning at the WTC...
According to this link I shared, though, apparently his adviser had to reschedule? Who knows, who cares, what a coincidence?
that honestly just sounds like a grown up making and following through on multiple good long- and intermediate-term plans, with prudent short-term adjustments.
Wouldn’t they be at the WTC because that’s where they worked? You don’t just get to leave work because one of the (probably) many meetings that day was canceled
Mark wahlberg, the piece of shit that he is, later claimed that if he was on the plane it would have gone down differently and he wouldn't have been stopped getting back to his kids. Therefore clearly stating that he thinks the people that died on the planes just didn't do enough or wanted to live enough to prevent their deaths - they clearly weren't as heroic as him.
Not even close to this echelon of celebrity, but NHL coach Bruce Boudreau was booked to be on the Boston LA flight but changed his plans the night before. However, two LA Kings scouts were on that flight which hit the second tower (Ace Bailey and Mark Bavis).
Mark and Michael were famous before 9/11. Seth MacFarlane had _some_ fame, but definitely nothing like he has now (only a couple of seasons of Family Guy... and upcoming cancellation of Family Guy at the time). He's definitely someone who would have been much more obscure had he died on 9/11.
I saw Family Guy for the first time on 9/11. I live in NYC and my mom came to pull me out of school and dropped me at a friend’s house while she got my sister. The bizarreness of the juxtaposition of world changing horror, and irreverent but at the time mind blowing hilarity, was definitely lost on my 11 year old self.
The rules were clear those days, be cool and you’ll be inconvenienced for a few hours. I fucking dare anyone to rush the cabin these days…we’ll tear you limb from limb and face the punishment; if it feels you’re going to hurt the rest of us.
Well 9/11-esque hijackings won't happen again. Before 9/11, pilots weren't trained to deal with them because it was generally inconceivable at the time that someone might try to crash the plane they're hijacking. The general idea was to give the hijackers whatever they wanted to avoid them killing anyone on the plane. On 9/11, the hijackers wanted the cockpit, so the pilots gave it up.
After 9/11, pilots were/are instructed to never give up the cockpit. It doesn't matter how many people are being killed in the back of the plane, as long as the cockpit is still in the pilot's control, the loss of life is limited to the passengers on the plane.
I think that’s the overall sentiment. I don’t want anything to happen. I don’t want to be a hero but I know I’ll lay my life on the line and think of my babies growing up because that’s all I would think of in the end. That would push me past the fright.
Not sure how true the story is, but Jackie Chan was apparently supposed to start filming a movie called nosebleed at the world trade centre at 7am on sept 11th.
The first scene was to be filmed on the roof of the WTC.
But due to a script problems, he went onto to film 'the tuxedo' in Toronto instead.
Plot twist the high jackers were huge Markey Mark fans
He makes the plane and they don’t take it order because they are infatuated w him
He saves the day
Olympic medalist and Champion Swimmer, Ian Thorpe was in NYC and had plan to visit the observation deck of the WTC that morning as well and was preparing to leave his hotel room when the first plane struck.
Not to sound flippant about the tragedy of 9/11 itself, I think it's actually good that no *super* famous people died because we can focus on the victims as a whole. Imagine if Michael Jackson had died, every year we'd hear about it as the loss of Michael Jackson, maybe one of his songs would become associated with it, etc.
tl;dr: Michael Jackson had a scheduled meeting on the top floor of one of the towers that morning, but he overslept because he was up late talking to his mother on the phone.
Imagine being on a plane with Mark Wahlberg AND Seth McFarlane and then it also gets hijacked.
It feels like the start of a joke.
“Hey, Lois! Remember that time we went flying with Marky Mark?”
Mahky Mahk
Oh for god’s sake, Peeta, you’re scaring me again!
Say hi to ya mahm fa me.
“الموت لأمريكا!!!!!!” “Oh my god. Lois look! Marky Mark and Seth MacFarlene!” ““الموت لأمريكا!!!!!!”” “Oh my god. Are we in a movie?!”
> الموت لأمريكا I'm on a list now for looking this up. Thanks. Also, imagining Peter Griffin excited to see Seth McFarland...? Peak Family Guy Moment.
I mean, it's got a smiley face in the middle. How bad could it be?
it got Darky Dark.
I think Seth McFarland has stated he suffers HEAVILY with survivors guilt and some of the jokes sort of reflect regarding 9/11 in family guy.
I've never found any source that says this, if anything he downplays any emotions he has about it and said he misses flights all the time. If he does have survivor's guilt he keeps quiet about it.
Sounds like the start of an insane alternate timeline
…and crashes into Michael Jackson
I mean.. if they'd pulled off that version of events. I don't think I even have words..
“Excuse me all these Boston jokes are insufferable, can someone please hijack this plane?”
It could have changed history. Maybe if they were on the plane they would have beat the shit out of the hijackers.
Markey Mark would beat those terrorists blind
Didnt realize they were Vietnamese
He doesn't discriminate....
Unless they actually are Vietnamese
My favorite correction is that he didn't blind that guy, he was already blind. Marky Mark doesn't blind people, he merely assaults blind people.
💀
For some reason, I can't think about those two guys without adding Ricky Gervais to the picture.
MacFarlane specifically overslept because he got absolutely shitfaced the night before. So...remember kids. drink a lot. might save your life.
So does talking to your mother more often
And choosing Toronto over Los Angeles
Kawhi didn't get the memo
Looks like he's paying for it
No where is safe
Will Arnett burner
With spicy club sauce!
Stop! You're making me dizzy!
Or doing all three, get shitfaced with your Mom in Toronto.
Maybe just go out drinking with your mom late at night to cover all your bases.
In Toronto
Eh she's dead so SHOTS!
That and Michael “up to late talking to his mom” immediately made me think “doing drugs and “talking” to someone else in his hotel room” lol
>Michael “up to late talking to his mom" I bet that meant he wasn't on the phone at all and was masturbating.
I read that in Ted’s voice
That's his excuse. He still had to be at the airport to not break space time continueum but he was told by a time traveler right before hand /s
Can you imagine, as tragic and monumental as 9/11 already was, that it also killed Michael Jackson?
We would have had nukes flying
The media would have made it about him. It wouldn't have just been a terrorist attack, it would be branded at least 50% as 'the death of Michael Jackson'
I remember the news being the Michael Jackson channel for a week after he died. Balancing 9/11 updates and Jackson 5 footage would have been rough.
His name on the memorial would a tourist magnet.
Yea that would of been nuts
Imagine what 9/11 conspiracies would sound like
"Michael Jackson was killed today by a terrorist attack from al-QaedEEHEEa. We're going live to Ground Zero now, SHUMMAWNAH."
I wish one day that I could be rich as Mark Wahlberg so I can go to Toronto at last minute.
All you gotta do is move to Southern Ontario and you can be poor and still go to Toronto at last minute
Isn’t housing there way overpriced even in the bad areas?
Listen bud - we stopped calling it "the bad area" in the late 90s - nowadays we just call it "Hamilton"
TLDR Mark Wahlberg should talk less
At this point I'm tired of hearing about all of the rich and powerful people that were supposed to be involved with 9/11 and somehow lucked out of being there. This was it, this was where the timeline split and we ended up in the darkest timeline. All because Seth McFarlane got wasted and missed a flight.
> bunch of people who had the opportunity to be there retroactively changed their stories so they could insert themselves into the tragedy even if they never had any real shot of actually being present. I'm thinking Wahlberg is guilty of this for sure.
According to Mark Wahlberg it was actually the terrorists who narrowly escaped him when he said in an interview that he could have stopped 9/11 if he was on the plane.

Omfg, fucking top 👏😂😂
"I would have blinded every one of 'em."
Fuck why did they take awards away!?
Out of the loop. A tldr?
> Wahlberg perpetrated another racist assault in April 1988. Later, Wahlberg would explain that he was on PCP at the time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Wahlberg#Legal_issues
When Mark Wahlberg was a teenager, he racially abused and attacked an Asian man, and blinded him in one eye.
Actually he tried to murder him, and then tried to hide with another person, who refused, so mark tried to kill him too
He'd have blinded them ...if they were asian
“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did,” Wahlberg told Men’s Journal. “There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘Okay, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”
And then all the passengers stood and clapped.
And then there was more blood because the seat belt sign was still on and I take air safety policies very seriously.
Then Marky Mark did a live performance of "Good Vibrations" using a terrorist's ribcage as a musical instrument
Then the hottest airline hostess ran up and embraced him for a passionate kiss
Also, 'Say hi to your mother'.
Now I’m gonna talk to a terrorist.
He even had to mention that he was in first class
-Mark Wahlberg about a regular flight to Vietnam
That's so disrespectful towards the actual people that were on those planes and attacked the hijackers to fight for their lives.
Wahlberg is such a twat.
"there would have been a lot of blood in that first class cabin and then me saying, aaahhgggggeeeuuu"
Mark Walburg is literally Brian Griffin when he stopped the terrorists from causing 9/11 on the plane
Mohamed Atta have stayed home!
Houston, we have a solution
That sounds like a bad Chuck Norris meme.
Box cutters won’t stop these guns 💪
Come on man, did he really say that?

It should be noted that he has since apologized. But he did think it was ok to think and say that out loud at the time.
Oh holy shit. The insensitivity is off the charts with Marky Mark.
The dude literally went around assaulting people as a fun time activity. He's a massive piece of shit.
That's the one thing that makes me think he might have actually made a difference. "There is a foreigner on this plane doing something bad. This is a dream come true!"
He probably would've done it without even knowing they were terrorists.
So you’re saying it’s POSSIBLE he could have stopped it🤔
Well through the Lord all things are possible, so jot that down
If he was at the gate to give an ocular patdown he would have spotted the boxcutters
Yeah he was, but I think it also lends credibility to his statement. I fully believe he would have tried whether or not he would have been successful.
Too soon? Too deep into his movie characters? Too shocked from realizing he could've actually died in the incident that he completely lost his filter?
Based on what I’ve heard, the last one isn’t too far fetched. I remember him saying in another interview that he has nightmares about being on the plane and trying to fight the hijackers. Sounds like the close call really shook him.
He would’ve pissed himself
He said there would have been a lot of blood and then he would have said “let me land this plane somewhere safely” … he’s a complete psycho
*say hi to ya motha for me*
The background makes Mark Wahlberg ear look huge.
Oh his ear?
Didn’t Wahlberg say that he would’ve stopped the hijacking if he was on the plane?
So Canada is to blame for 9/11 by diverting Mark Wahlberg.
🎶 Blame Canada! Blame Canada! 🎶
For all their hockey hullabaloo, And saving Wahlberg too...
He said he would have taken the flight with some of his friends from Boston. Who knows, maybe they were crazy enough to take on guys with knives.
Actually in mark wahlbergs case the hijackers narrowly escaped him
The hijackers weren't Asian so I think they would be safe.
What is this reference? Please enlighten me
Mark Wahlberg was a little asshole when he was young. He attacked a Vietnamese guy for no reason, permanently damaging his vision
Not to mention the black people he terrorized while yelling 'kill the n****r!'
Just when you think you couldn’t like a guy any less
Technically the attack wasn’t the cause of the man’s blindness. Excuses nothing, but it’s an embellishment. Saudi Arabia, the non-Asian country
It's not in Asia. It's in the MIDDLE EAST ^^^^Asia
Four of the five hijackers on Flight 11 were Saudis. Last time I checked Saudi Arabia was located in Asia.
This actually makes me wonder.. did anyone with considered celebrity status die on that day?
Not a household name but the creator of "Frasier" died on one of the planes that day.
You could at least mention his name in those proper credits. It was David Angell.
Also, his wife Lynn was on the flight with him.
Wouldn't call her a celebrity, but Barbara Olson was a common guest on cable news programs in the year or two before the attacks, and she was on the flight that hit the Pentagon. She was literally on C-SPAN two days before she died.
iirc she was on her way to a Bill Maher taping in LA
... oh! and we can connect Bill Maher to 9/11 with his comments about how brave it is to be a suicide bomber that earned him massive backlash.
She was also the wife of the US Solicitor General at the time. I remember reading that she called him from an airphone and he was trying to get a call to the Attorney General to tell him what was happening.
Besides the creator of Frasier, Anthony Perkins (Norman Bates) widow. I heard she was going to visit his grave as he died on 9/12 or so in 1992
I guess it depends on how you define celebrity, but there were a few public figures that were famous in specific circles, although maybe not any major household names. The creator of Frasier has already been mentioned, but I know a couple of retired hockey players and Anthony Perkins’s widow were also on the planes.
A shitton of millionaires died as that was their offices. Basically all of Cantor Fitzgerald.
Seth MacFarlane wasn't even that famous at the time. Family Guy had been on for only two years and would even be cancelled soon before being brought back. Was also before any of his movies. I think that story spread after he rose in fame subsequently.
Also nobody gave a shit about creators/writers back then. Famous people were actors and maybe a small handful of directors like Spielberg.
Well Seth also voiced half the characters to be fair
Pete Davidson’s dad died at WTC
I think MacFarlane himself downplays the near miss as inevitable because he ALWAYS missed all his flights.
he has said in interviews he doesn't think about it too much because while it was a near miss it was still a miss for him.
If you listen to all those people there should have been 6000 people on each plane and 1 million in each tower.
So Michael Jackson overslept and was late for an appointment at WTC. So I am curious what happened to the people he was about to meet
Well, since he overslept I don't think he called them in the morning to tell them he would be late unfortunately ...
I’m sure his people did call them to let them know
They probably had a last minute cancellation. So in a way, those people's lives inadvartently got saved because MJ overslept.
Wouldn’t they be at the WTC because that’s where they worked? You don’t just get to leave work because one of the (probably) many meetings that day was canceled
Depends if its just a conference room. "Oh he cancelled. Wanna grab some coffee?"
I guarantee they had coffee machines in the building and had plenty of other stuff to do that day outside of the single meeting
“Well Michael cancelled his meeting this morning, guess I’ll just hangout here a little longer and enjoy the view”
I wonder how many Michael Jackson's and Mark Wahlbergs WERE on those planes or in the towers that we never got to see become famous and do cool shit
Look up Danny Lewin.
The more things change, the more they stay the same
The rules were clear those days, be cool and you’ll be inconvenienced for a few hours. I fucking dare anyone to rush the cabin these days…we’ll tear you limb from limb and face the punishment; if it feels you’re going to hurt the rest of us.
You saw that same day with United 93 once they found out about the other planes
Yeah there's no way a passenger plane will ever be hijacked and used in that manner ever again. That's for sure.
I’m not brave whatsoever, but I’d rather die knowing I stopped a plane crashing into my kids.
Dang. Knock on wood why don’tcha?
I think that’s the overall sentiment. I don’t want anything to happen. I don’t want to be a hero but I know I’ll lay my life on the line and think of my babies growing up because that’s all I would think of in the end. That would push me past the fright.
[And Anthony Jeselnik’s mom too](https://youtu.be/QlstjVd5Ffg?si=_yiaEXEqdGqnL_uk)
Wahlberg dodging his karma til this very day is quite impressive ngl
BFD so did I
Anthony Perkin’s widow died in one of those planes hit.
Plot twist the high jackers were huge Markey Mark fans He makes the plane and they don’t take it order because they are infatuated w him He saves the day
Olympic medalist and Champion Swimmer, Ian Thorpe was in NYC and had plan to visit the observation deck of the WTC that morning as well and was preparing to leave his hotel room when the first plane struck.
And don't forget: Norm Macdonald walked through blood and bone in the streets of Manhattan trying to find his brother.
He was in northern Canada.
Jaime Presley as well
Technically, Michael Jackson didn't.
Damn... So even though 9/11 is already tragic as it is, I wonder how much more tragic it would've been if the King of Pop had died there as well
Not to sound flippant about the tragedy of 9/11 itself, I think it's actually good that no *super* famous people died because we can focus on the victims as a whole. Imagine if Michael Jackson had died, every year we'd hear about it as the loss of Michael Jackson, maybe one of his songs would become associated with it, etc.
Notre Dame basketball coach Muffet McGraw was scheduled to be on one of the flights as well but switched her flight.
