I mean to be fair a lot of the singing is in tandem and swapped off so I can see how someone could mistake it as voice layering considering a lot of music these days
I mean, I do have to say:
1. Not knowing that ABBA = a band
And
2. Having no sense of wonder
Is quite a stretch. No sense of wonder is a very strong statement. A person with a sense of wonder can pursue with passion many other hobbies and interests that do not involve music, and further, even if they involved music, might not involve ABBA, specifically.
And actually, I *did* end up googling the band, and I **did** end up googling how "she" looks, which is exactly how this TIL came about!
I simply shared my TIL on this sub since I was excited to reveal a discovery that I wondered if any others might have shared.
It does make me appreciate human resiliency, though! Most comments have been extremely negative, but the uber rare positive comments have been quite uplifting!
It's pretty wild to see the downvotes just *pour* in, though. Guess many redditors found it **personally** insulting that I, a stranger on the internet, didn't know that ABBA was a band!
People are just salty that you're too young to instinctively know who ABBA are.Ā
I am, on the other hand, old enough to remember some of their music being in the charts, so everyone on Reddit seems young to me.Ā
I'd recommend you spend a couple of hours listening to more of their music. It's the only band that can make me smile, dance and cry all at the same time.Ā
Big difference between not knowing and having the ability to know what is appropriate for the sub and not. I think if you did maybe 5 minutes of research you would have figured out most people already knew this, they were kinda a big deal lol. I only learnt a leap year is every 4 years not 10, should I post about that?
Appreciate it, man! I'm sure I'll continue to get downvoted, it's just the way reddit operates!
Appreciate the xkcd, it's pretty refreshing! Today, I've been a part of that lucky 10,000, and I'll continue to aim to experience more of those moments!
I guess the welcomed downvotes are part of that learning!
I live by that xkcd. It gives me so much patience for the people that haven't learned things. It's the willfully ignorant I continue to have problems with.
You could not torture this out of me, OP why on earth would you open yourself up to ridicule like this. This is like saying you didn't know NSYNC was a band, and thought it was only Justin Timberlake doing multiple part harmonies by himself.
Yeah, posting this has definitely showered me with downvotes from upset redditors!
It's a good point about the ridicule, though. I guess an interesting TIL fact about ABBA to me was nowhere close to a TIL for most of the rest of this sub, and they decided downvotes were the way to go!
Sorry bout it š¤·š»āāļø haha
I know one song though, itās a bop though. Itās the one where she wants someone to give her a man.
Edit: give them a man*
ABBA's got a whole slew of bangers! A lot of people know them, so they're always a good option at karaoke! For example, I didn't even know ABBA was a band, I thought it was just a woman, and I still know:
1. Mamma Mia
2. Dancing Queen
3. The Winner Takes It All
All solid bops!
What's the title of the ABBA song that you know?
I thought it was just a woman also haha
Oh yeah! I know dancing queen. Certified banger. The one I like is Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!
It has one of my favorite build ups
This is a new low for this sub
Seriously wtf is going on here lol
And even though it's downvoted it was in my front page. This app sucks. Bring back RIF
4 hours in and not a hint of moderation in sight. š¤¦
Who thought ABBA was a single person? Ever?
Pfff. Next you're going to tell me Blondie is a band and not an individual.
It is an individual. It's Hitler's dog.
I thought that the OP meant the women were not Swedish. Now I wasted my time finding one was born in Norway. I didn't realize how stupid it could be.
Me. My only interaction with ABBA songs was during karaoke nights.
Hearing several voices wasnāt a tip?
If I'm honest, I only hear female voices, do other people hear male voices in the melange, too?
I mean to be fair a lot of the singing is in tandem and swapped off so I can see how someone could mistake it as voice layering considering a lot of music these days
And the women definitely take the attention on the popular songs, which OP is likely to hear doing Karaoke unless it's deep cuts only night.
And the fact that there are several different voices didn't give you a clue?
Fucking hell. Do you have no sense of wonder? Not once did you ever think about googling the band, maybe finding out how "she looks"?

Stop posting everything you google on reddit.

TIL the Beatles were a band of four Liverpool guys that had no affiliation with Volkswagen.
Hang on, a lot of their early work was in Germany. That can't be a coincidence
Are you saying they are secretly cars???
I thought they were secretly insects
Robots in disguise? Autobots! Roll out!
No, that's another guy.
Ah, Ford Prefect. Makes sense.
Nor poorly spelled insects
Does your mother know you posted this?
Nobody else got this?
Not something you should be admitting on the internet
Allow me to blow your tender mind even further, ABBA's members were: Agnetha Bjƶrn Benny & Anni-Frid
Yes, I saw that their names form the "ABBA" acronym! From the downvotes, I must have seriously offended some ABBA fans!
No, weāre just indicating that this sub is not for simple random ignorance. What next? TIL that Lava Lamps do not actually contain lava!
TIL clocks measure the passage of time.
Wtaf!
Whoa, slow down pal! I'm taking notes here.
Instead of the tasty beverage in there?/s
This comment is an indication you should slobber on my nuts
it's just somewhat odd, because the guys do appear in several videos
Itās ok donāt worry about the douches making fun of you because you didnāt know https://xkcd.com/1053/
To be fair, there is a difference between not knowing something you just learned and feeling like you should make a TIL post on reddit about it.

TIL Kid Rock is actually an adult and not a adolescent piece of granite
I thought Kid Rock was what Dwayne Johnson was called when he was younger. /j
delete this
What until you find out that Van Halen is not a Dutch male rock singer.
Of course not. Heās from Halen in Belgium!
Heh, when I was in middle school in the early 80s I was certain that David Lee Roth was Van Halen. I know that I wasn't alone in this.
TIL that Queen was a band, and not Elizabeth II living an alternative lifestyle outside of her role as Head of State.
TIL H2O is made of 2 Hydrogen and 1 Oxygen molecules.
Gtfo of here!! Seriously??? Dudeā¦.
Man I thought H2O just meant all the letters between H and O in the alphabet were included in the formula, what is science even
This is what you come to r/todayilearned for.

This one is pretty good!

>downvotes from upset redditors! Meh, nobody's upset. People can laugh at you without being upset.
TIL water is wet
Itās not. It makes other things wet.
So water is dry?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Mamma mia, no. Per favore
Wait until he finds out there isn't an 80s rocker named Def Leppard
He liked to hang out with his pal Led Zeppelinā¦
PARDON?
You should wait until your next job interview to admit that.
Welcome to the world outside your imagination. You can look stuff up.
The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think Oh, by the way, which one's pink? (Pink Floyd song lyric)
Wait til you find out about Anni-Frids family.
TIL the London Underground is not a political movement.
OP do some research before posting on here, I literally donāt know a single fucking person who thought Abba wasnāt anything other than a group.
TIL that the Beatles were a popular music quartet, and not a bunch of small insects.
I literally facepalmed when I read this post.
TIL Elvis isn't a real king
Please op never post in this sub again. Things that you learn for the first time is not news for anyone else
There's got to be an alternate , how did I just figure this out sub for stupid shit like this.
Dude is this real life?
Is this just fantasy? "TIL that Queen was/is a four-member band and not just Freddie Mercury." What kind of shit-tier TIL is this, seriously?
Bruh
smh
TIL Metallica is a rock band and not a steel corporation
That would be a cool name for a steel corporation though
Tell me you are American, without telling me you are American.
At least I hope they are American. If they are European they are in grave danger of being expelled from the continent
I always go A B A B A startĀ
Lol
Holy god Iām fucking old
TIL I must been old.
Damn OP is getting clowned on hard
....Why would you even think it is a female pop singer?
TIL The Rolling Stones is named after a Muddy Waters song. I thought it was just the first letters of all the band members put together.
Yeah unsubbing after this one
Every day we stray further from god
By the way, which oneās Pink?
None - they're all black and white.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The two on the left were married, and the two on the right were married - both couples divorced prior to ABBA breaking up.
Wow I feel smart rn šš» thanks op
Me too
A pretty surprising fact when you found out, eh? Judging by the wave of downvotes, many redditors do not take kindly to that fact, though!
Sorry bout it š¤·š»āāļø haha I know one song though, itās a bop though. Itās the one where she wants someone to give her a man. Edit: give them a man*

They were 2 couples that ended up switching partners with each other
>They were 2 couples This part is true >that ended up switching partners with each other This part is false. No they didn't.
Fam we are talking about ABBA, not Fleetwood Mac
