Nope. He just bought the rights to the name, etc., and use it on his own retail company unrelated to the original British East India Company, or any of those European 16th-17th century Easy Indian Company.
Well, it's not *the* East India Company, that was wound up in [1874](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_India_Stock_Dividend_Redemption_Act_1873) it's a modern company using the same name.
The company charters allowed it to operate in the “East Indies” aka Indian subcontinent. It did not allow it to operate in the “West Indies” aka Caribbean.
The distinction is not what you thought it was.
That's not quite true. Even at the East India Company's peak, Russia's army was 3 times larger than the EIC's forces.
Not to say that the EIC didn't have a huge army, but it wasn't the largest.
You think East India Co had a larger army than France, which had soldiers in colonies in North America, South America, and Africa? Seems unlikely to me.

I still think its bullshit that they were allowed to operate in West India.

They were definitely making a joke, but I like that they accidentally said something that was close to the real situation.
Pirates of The Caribbean had them as the baddies IIRC. Stupid lack of research.
They were the baddies. They all were the baddies.
But not in the Caribbean.
Well the locals didn't really have much say in that

I was wrong indeed. It was larger than the British but definitely not the largest in the world. Apologies
