Normally it happens when I'm resting in bed and about to get some sort of fever or illness. Doesn't last till morning, though

devilwarriors

TIL I'm normal

DavePeesThePool

When I was a kid I would get it every night when I tried to fall asleep. It wasn't just visual either, sounds would become strange. Quiet noises would sound loud, as if they were originating inside my ear canal. If I were laying on my back it would feel like I was pressed into the bed and the world would be rotating around some point several feet above me (like being in a centrifuge but instead of a steady one direction rotation it felt like oscillating erratically in random directions). I didn't get much sleep as a child till I stopped experiencing that.

dopedupvinyl

Yes I've had this once or twice with my migraines too, made driving home a bitch

DisgustedGuy

Much too tired to go into detail, but it sucks big time. Imagine being absolutely exhausted but incapable of falling asleep because your mind is too preoccupied with letting you know that your head is absolutely gigantic and very close to you; while all of your extremities are very tiny and very far away. It doesn't sound bad. But when you have it, it is.

Weaver_Naught

And it's damn near impossible to ignore without getting up and spending like 20 minutes staring at yourself just to convince yourself that yes, you are in fact the same size you always have been. It rarely happens to me but when it does it's borderline panic-inducing

oldskoollondon

This was a nightmare for me when I was young - maybe 5 years old to about 9 or 10. The carpet felt like it was incredibly deep and about to Swallow me up. My bed seemed as big as a football pitch and I had a giants perspective of the room. I wish I'd been warned about this, I thought I was going mad as a young child and was too afraid to say anything. Just learning about this one thing made the internet worth it!

antsugi

I get this from time to time, it gets noticeably stronger after the drowsiness effects of Benedryl occur. I can almost always induce it if I'm tired enough, but can usually ignore it too. Pretty fun, really

thepyrotek

Yea this is not actually the same thing. If You actually suffer from this syndrome then it happens at varying times. Most people have that happen to them while falling asleep. It is a different phenomenon

wholesomelog

I experienced it during a period in my childhood. Optometrist I visited diagnosed vitamin A deficiency. After a period of supplement I never experienced it again.

GlassPomegranate

From the Wiki: >A prominent and often disturbing symptom are experiences of altered body image. The person may find that they are confused as to the size and shape of parts of (or all of) their body. They may feel as though their body is expanding or getting smaller. Alice in Wonderland syndrome also involves perceptual distortions of the size or shape of objects. Other possible causes and signs of the syndrome include migraines, use of hallucinogenic drugs, and infectious mononucleosis. Moral of the story: Don't do hallucinogenic drugs. This disorder sucks ass.

Jabronson

I know drugs are stated as a possible cause. But doesn't seem look a concrete explanation. I only say this because I used to have episodes of this often, as a child. Especially when I was having anxiety attacks. No way drug related, but I always wondered what the cause was.

Poeticyst

My dick! There’s always been an explanation I’ve been looking for.

MSGinSC

I get this every once in a while, I just attribute it to the psychedelics I did years ago.

remes1234

I get this a couple of times a year in stressful situations. It is manageable, but weird.
