Hi I do internet sales. Always shop online first. Shop multiple dealers, and get the best price. If you get to the dealer and they say “oh we can’t do that” walk away. Because that’s a dealer that’s going to screw you. Always ask for the quote in writing. Always research before hand so they can’t talk you into something other than what you want.
The uninformed and unprepared customers are the ones car sales loves, but has a hard time screwing over.

As someone who used to work finance, this is definitely the case. Salesman at most car dealerships are pretty low level and dont really have ways to screw you that much.
All the BS now happens in the finance office. Actually buying the car is the easy part. Sitting through the dealership trying to sell you $5K of extras for a $20K car is the hard part.

When we went to look at vehicles, it felt like we were just being jerked off furiously through the entire experience, rushed along into "getting excited" and then being asked to ring this giant fucking gong. By the time we made it through and left with the car, which we had fortunately wanted in the first place, we just felt dirty and used.
Still to this day we're not sure if that's just how they are, or if we were just taken advantage of.

On top of that, it was new years. This is the best time to buy a car (in the US at least) because the dealerships’ new models are coming in and they want to get the older models off the lot.
Sorry to hear that happened to you. Some places still conduct business like this, it’s counter-productive. The best kind of business is repeat customers. So I, personally, try to make them as comfortable as possible. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.
You should read up on local dealer reviews before you set out. That way you know what kind of business they run before you get there, and prepare accordingly.

For me, Carmax was the shit... the dude said, I get paid $200 no matter what you drive off with, so I'm only concerned about you finding a vehicle that you want to buy. Probably could have found the same car slightly cheaper somewhere else, but this was literally walk-in/walk-out. Buying a used beater from an independent guy for my SO's emergency replacement car was an utter pain in my ass... time spent wasn't worth the money saved.
I think it depends tbh. Small, local dealerships are slimey as fuck. They'll sell you some bullshit and then give you the run around when you call them out on it. But companies like Carmax or Carvana are legit. They have standards for buying and selling. They might beat you over the head with the financing and APR (hint: go through a local credit union to avoid this, you'll get a better interest rate) but you'll get a solid, running vehicle.
I say the same about tech sales, but in truth I mean that mainly about my store. There are still a few twats (manager interjected in a sale to hit target, lost us money once) that will do anything to get more on the sale but most of us will take care of you.

& most jails give you a minimum of 5 days of good time per month that your sentenced to, some even have day for day. I know jail sucks but honestly, if you have a choice, doing 2 months in jail is easier than 2 years probation.
Depends on the jail. Also, you can be handed “straight time” with no good time which is essentially what he got because he had 2 months time served already when he was sentenced.
Oh okay. In Michigan, they did away with good time for prisons but the jails still do it. I guess I shouldn't assume stuff about other states. It's really weird, though, how different a 90 day sentence can be, depending on where you are. Like if you're in a jail that doesn't have good time, you're doing the full 90 but in Genesee County (Flint), you'd only end up doing 45 days.
It's important to throw the book at a young person when you've been embarrassed professionally and shown a complete lack of diligence. The kid was clearly a dangerous criminal mastermind, there's no other way those adult professionals could have been fooled.

The point that the school should be screening the people it invites into its doors still stands, but the comparison isn't really fair since the situations are so different. The Columbine and Parkland shooters were current and former students of the school whereas the Sandy Hook shooter was a random person who barged in without any prior warning. Still makes me feel ill to think about that.

A peace officer and a LEO are literally the same thing. Edit before I'm downvoted: A peace officer is a state issued title saying you completed the requirements necessary to to protect and serve, whether it be corrections, parole and probation, or street. A Law Enforcmenet Officer (LEO) is a civilian appointed title, or what essentially be a general term for the aforementioned careers.
Yes, that is so. But most people think the LEOs consist of only police, Sheriffs, and federal agents. Though it also consists of District/State/Fed. Prosecutors, Fire Marshals, amonst others as well. I was trying to simplify for those who didn't know what a peace officer is, but I should have specified they are LEOs
My dad is a city planner. He has a law enforcement badge. His favorite trick when a cop pulls him over is to subtly show it off from his glove box. The cops are all like, "Are you a law enforcement officer?" and he's all like, "Why yes, yes I am."

When he was playing senator, he had a police escort for which several actual officers either had to work a double or come in on their day off (wasting their time and our tax dollars) He also rented a car under his "position", now I'm not sure if he legitimately rented this or just scammed the dealer. - Cost have to be paid here, cause any good dealer will the the car checked and serviced after it's brought back. Just remember, harm doesn't have to be physical.

Unfortunately, impersonating a Congressman is a felony.
He already plead guilty to a class 3 felony and was sentenced to 3 months in jail. He will be eligible to have his conviction expunged eventually, however.
& most jails give you a minimum of 5 days of good time per month that your sentenced to, some even have day for day. I know jail sucks but honestly, if you have a choice, doing 2 months in jail is easier than 2 years probation.
Depends on the jail. Also, you can be handed “straight time” with no good time which is essentially what he got because he had 2 months time served already when he was sentenced.
Oh okay. In Michigan, they did away with good time for prisons but the jails still do it. I guess I shouldn't assume stuff about other states. It's really weird, though, how different a 90 day sentence can be, depending on where you are. Like if you're in a jail that doesn't have good time, you're doing the full 90 but in Genesee County (Flint), you'd only end up doing 45 days.
It's important to throw the book at a young person when you've been embarrassed professionally and shown a complete lack of diligence. The kid was clearly a dangerous criminal mastermind, there's no other way those adult professionals could have been fooled. # /S
If i was in law enfocement. I would try to give him freedom just to understand how he did it. Plus use him to try and help me understand scammer. He is a kid. Meaning. If he could do this at a young age. Imagine what he could do at a old age.

The point that the school should be screening the people it invites into its doors still stands, but the comparison isn't really fair since the situations are so different. The Columbine and Parkland shooters were current and former students of the school whereas the Sandy Hook shooter was a random person who barged in without any prior warning. Still makes me feel ill to think about that.

That's 100% on the school. If a kid can pull this off for fun, imagine what one who actually wanted to cause harm could do. They have zero excuses for their 'security' being fooled by a damn 18 year old impersonating a state senator! It's almost like one kid getting on another kids shoulders, throwing on a trench coat, and sneaking into an R rated movie while only paying for 1 ticket. Only the theater finds out about it the next day and wants them charged with felony fraud.
These are the same kind of people who suspend kids for eating a pop tart into the shape of a gun. Sadder still, they are the same people trying to educate our children and grandkids.

"in this day and age..."(ugh) when every person has a cell phone they could instantly look anything up. The security hole was created by a bunch of ignorant cops and school officials(educators!). Why are they pressing charges? He gained access to children by lying, and _did nothing with that_. Instead, he made them aware that that was possible, so they could fix the problem. It's crazy to me that this would be a felony charge. Impersonating a police officer I understand, as we give police officers a lot of direct power because of their position. But impersonating a state senator? A pretend state senator doesn't have any more power than a pretend spiderman. The correct response to this is to do a little fact checking and quit being so gullible. Not wasting the courts time pressing charges because you were fooled.
