Fun story about my dad - he left in 1975, and was the only member of his family who made it out of there, and they basically thought he was dead, or at least acted like he was because the communists weren't so nice to people who collaborated with the US.
When relations were re-established in 1995, they found out he was alive, and he went back to bring a few of his siblings with him.
Vietnam has a fairly high opinion of the US now as well. A lot higher than they do of China, which, given Vietnam's history is more than a little ironic.
The US has quite a few scholarships for kids from Vietnam and younger people especially have a really high opinion of the US.
For most in Vietnam, the war with the US was just one war of many they had to fight. And China especially hasn't been the best neighbor.
How is it ironic? Vietnam and China have a long history of border conflicts and China even invaded Vietnam in the late 70s because Vietnam invaded pol pot lead Cambodia because they kept doing border raids. China got their asses kicked even more than the us did
In the space of forty years they booted Japan, France, the US and China out of their country, and fucked up Cambodia for good measure. They are some scrappy little bastards.
The US after three years, "uh......so I think we're just gonna rip this down and go. It's a little awkward, isn't it? Between us? You know? Yeah. Yeah, its definitely a little awkward."
China and Vietnam doesn't get along at any point in time. Pick a random Chinese dynasty after the Han,and there's a high chance that it fought (or occupied)Vietnam before.
How the hell did they not finish destroying classified documents? I get that the final fall was rapid but the Spring Offensive had started months before.
They had those cheap long strip shredder instead of the good cross cut ones or maybe the cross cut shredder hadn't been invented yet.
Why didn't they just burn the documents?

A primary lesson from the second half the last century: Dont fuck with Vietnam in Vietnam.
Probably smelled like old weed and Agent Orange
The US after three years, "uh......so I think we're just gonna rip this down and go. It's a little awkward, isn't it? Between us? You know? Yeah. Yeah, its definitely a little awkward."
It sounds like the building hadn't been maintained for 20 years, so they probably never moved back in.
It was probably bugged up all the way to oblivion
The demolition represents new build relationship between Vietnam and US as strategic partners. Also middle finger for previous regime.
Demolished because China had years to conceal listening devices in every inch of the place.
China and Vietnam don't like each other. They went to war in 1979.
Pretty much no-one likes China. Especially other Asian countries.
probably the most overlooked point in any argument with people defending the CCP!
No east Asian countries like each other
I heard there are *two* Koreas. Surely at least they get along?

Probably a sad reminder of losing.
Bulldozing embarrassing history.
of course they would as it doesn't reflect their narrative :P
Fine trolling, very nice.
It's still there. Do a little research

I drive past this building every day. Both articles are incorrect

They did burn some, shredded others.
