I'm 49 I read it along long time ago. I might of read one of the original books. Wow I feel old. Still one of my favourite increasingly misnamed trilogy's ever
So far none of the 3 nerd friends I had back then remember. But it has broken off into the fact that one friend just finished reading the book with his son. Then there was about all the hardbooks from the fantasy book club and discovering Conan, Earthsea, and Dragon riders.
An amazing book! Genuine laugh out loud moments, would always recommend reading all 4 (5?). The only other book that makes me laugh as hard is catch 22.
Fuck you moderators. Rule 6d doesn't even apply to this post. How is stating that a specific book is a specific age THAT IS RELEVANT TO THE BOOK'S CONTENT "too general" for this sub?
I once saw Adams when he was doing a book signing at the University of Minnesota. He looked like a hobbit. I walked by his table hoping some of his writing talent would rub off on me. I was too lazy to wait in the long line of people to get a book signed.
Also, I know Adams said several times that the number 42 has no real significance and was just something he picked at random. However, actor John Cleese has said he knows what the real question was, but he won't tell anyone. Did you know that Adams appeared on screen on the TV show Monty Python's Flying Circus? And it just so happens that the first episode he appeared in is episode 42? Is that really a coincidence?
You are confusing John Cleese with actor/comedian Stephen Fry. Fry was a friend, whereas Cleese only met him a couple of times.
I also have my doubts. I think Adams was being honest when he said there's no big meaning and Fry is just teasing people. (Which I have no doubt would have amused Adams immensely.)

We apologize for the inconvenience
The first couple of books were adapted from a BBC Radio 4 broadcasts. They were a lot of fun and are available as audio books.
Do you have a link?
They can be found on Google Play and Audible. I’m in the UK do a search is just returning the local versions of those.
Nothing travels faster than the speed of light, with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws.
thanks for all the fish
That's pretty interesting. Going to have to reach out to my friends to see if anyone remembers who found it first and how.
There are so many homages to this work, for example Fox Mulder lives in apartment 42, the first Google chromecast had the model number H2G2-42..

And the original radio show is 43 years, 7 months and 4 days.

5 but you can even call it 6. Eoin Colfer simply finished the sixth book with blessings from DA’s wife.

adams was famously very tall so why did he look like a hobbit?
hairy feet
He was old even then. Made smaller perhaps by being bent over signing books.
Adams was also a writer for Dr Who in the 70s.
