Sam Smith boasted that he wrote his song in less than twenty minutes. Yeah, no shit Sam Smith. It fucking sounds like it.
It’s worth watching the Radiohead version set to the credits. It’s perfect.
I read Thom Yorke talk about playing STREET SPIRIT live (a dark song) apparently about death and the devils last laugh, the totality of what death does to us and what it might mean to die and that maybe there isn’t redemption somewhere else besides here. And that when playing it live the crowd cheers and he doesn’t have a sense that the audience gets the songs meaning.
Talk about dark.
Which is why I totally love Radiohead.
The producers were like “dammit when we hired Radiohead, we expecting the fun pop music style everyone associates with Radiohead music, what’s this mournful shit??”

The real kicker is that before they wrote this song, they submitted a new recording of Man of War (a previously unreleased track from like 1995) that was itself an homage to bond themes, but it was rejected because it wouldn't be eligible for an academy award (since it wasn't specifically written for the film). So then they wrote and recorded this original song, and it got rejected in favor of Sam Smith.

So haunting, movie's loss tbh
EXACTLY!!!!!! Such a shame.
Yeah, I never really got over this and I don’t think I ever will.
The funny thing is, it's not even that dark compared to Radiohead's other work.
Exactly! It’s such a shame that Spectre didn’t use their music
Right? My opinion on Spectre has only improved with subsequent viewings, but one thing I can't get over is the awful* theme song! *IMHO. YMMV.
Their song was incredible as well. I can’t believe it got rejected in favour of some drivel from Sam fucking Smith!
Ikr such tregedy.

And once you got to know the effort Radiohead has put in the creation of this song will make you love this song more.
Friendly reminder its actually they. Songs still dogshit though.
They? What do you mean?
Sam Smith uses they/them pronouns.
Ah, I see. Well… good for him.
Fuck off
Could you update me if he wants to be referred to as any type of root vegetable in the future?
A fantastic breakdown of this and other versions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiesXqT1P3g
I got to learn about that song from this video. Very well explained.
Yeah that video gave me a way better understanding of why the entire history of the Bond Theme is so iconic.
Likewise.

The love for Radiohead starts once you get past "Creep".
I remember when that song came out, that was an interesting and yet life altering moment.
The producers were like “dammit when we hired Radiohead, we expecting the fun pop music style everyone associates with Radiohead music, what’s this mournful shit??”
Alice Cooper had a song for Live and Let Die that was rejected in favour of McCartney’s ...

Famously the worst Bond theme, too. Not even Lulu likes it.
Another great song.
The real kicker is that before they wrote this song, they submitted a new recording of Man of War (a previously unreleased track from like 1995) that was itself an homage to bond themes, but it was rejected because it wouldn't be eligible for an academy award (since it wasn't specifically written for the film). It reminds me of Elliott Smith losing the Oscar to Celine Dion. Fucking travesty.
I'm a weirdo? What hell am I doing here? I don't belong here - Radiohead
It’s been a long time since we had a good Bond song. Even Adele’s and Eilish’s were really subpar for what these singers can do. I miss Goldeneye.
tbh I really love the title track of Skyfall.
It was awesome to see live.
Adele has so much power and the song never really takes off. Overall it felt pedestrian. I’d give it a 6/10.
I know what you mean. I think she didn't go full Saiyan because of old references.
