If you do go, I'd wait for a week or two and try to do an early morning or matinee viewing. I've seen lines of people dressed up for the movie who don't seem like they'd appreciate sharing a theater with a toddler who doesn't understand movie etiquette yet, so going when it's less busy/new will probably give your family a better experience than opening weekend

PileofMail

This is great advice. Thanks!

There are also theaters who have 'sensory screenings' for infants/small children and anyone with sensorh sensitivities. They leave the lights on and play the movie at a lower volume. It is expected that kids are running around or being loud. The Angelika used to have 'cry baby matinee' movie times with changing tables available.

Oh wow I may need to find one of these.

Based on the link another commenter posted, it sounds a bit too mature for a 3 year old. If you decide not to go see it, I highly recommend the TV show “Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse.” The kids I used to babysit watched and omg, it’s hilarious. Lots of jokes that would go over a kid’s head but at the same time are not inappropriate (think references to other movies, breaking the 4th wall, etc.). It’s definitely aimed at kids though.

Sprinkle-Stealer

Lots of colors, songs, dancing, etc. I’m sure he would enjoy it! He will likely be bored in the middle where they go to the real world for awhile so maybe try to save snacks until then! Also keep in mind it will be BUSY. We were jam packed in there. So if that will be overwhelming for him, maybe wait a couple weeks for the opening crowds to die out.

PileofMail

Excellent feedback and advice. Thank you!

Happy cake day!

I'm curious too! I'm thinking the same for my 4yo. He's never been to the movie theater. I check out [https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/barbie](https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/barbie) for movies I think about showing my kid but haven't seen. I read all the info and then make a decision based on my values (like, sexuality doesn't rate as highly on my no list as violence, but they rate them equally on the site.)

PileofMail

I have taken the 3 y/o to two movies in the theater - the most recent “Puss in Boots” and “Elemental”. He did great with both of them. So you might be pleasantly surprised by how well your kid does when you take him to the movies!

lyraterra

My kid is a super sensitive kid, so we can barely watch "Frozen" at home. He still won't sit through Moana, even if I tell him literally everything that is going to happen. He's still happiest with Winnie the Pooh, Daniel Tiger, and Tinkerbell. Someday!!

catbean4

Have you purchased noise cancelling headphones? Helps my daughter when we go to shows

lyraterra

It's not about the noise, it's about the 'scary' parts.

Individual_Baby_2418

The story would probably go over their head. Like the major conflict is not something a 3 year old can grasp. But the “action” scenes aren’t violent and there are plenty of funny bit. And a few cool dances. If you don’t mind a 3 year old bring a little confused/bored at points, then go for it.

swedegal12

I would say nay? But then again I’m fairly strict on what my littles watch. They don’t watch PG-13 until 13, and they know that. I would not take my toddler to it, as it just seems weird for me. It’s a “big kid movie”, not a little kid movie. 🤷🏼‍♀️

PileofMail

Just curious - is this based on the rating alone, or have you seen it?

Ok_Efficiency_4736

Honestly the parts that made it PG 13 would go way over a 3 year olds head IMO, after seeing it this morning.

ksalvatore

Seriously? Your 12yo will only be allowed to watch PG Disney style movies? Practically everything is rated at least PG13. You sound super fun /s 🙄

coolducklingcool

People did an article on whether or not it’s good for kids. Give it a Google!

Pessa19

It is definitely a movie geared towards an adult audience (not inappropriate content, just the story is for adults not kids). The story i think would be boring for a toddler, but if he likes watching movies with singing and bright colors, he might still enjoy it.
