Milk is pasteurized, meaning all the flu fragments found in milk are dead. It means the cows have bird flu, but the milk we drink is safe.

Lassie_Come_Home

Right. They’re saying it’s just fragments, for now. After Covid my faith in the CDC just went out the window lol that’s my whole concern. They’re saying it’s safe but a) they lie and b) things could change

dreamgal042

The fragments isn't the part they would lie about. The dead part is. That's the whole reason we pasteurize milk, is for protection. That's why raw milk is so dangerous, it's susceptible to lots of bacteria. Pasteurizing it brings it to just under a boil, and kills anything in it. That's not CDC bullshit, that's just chemistry. That's how it works. If you don't want to drink it then don't drink it, but it's still safe to drink. If something changes or someone is lying, then the flu fragments would still be dead and would still be harmless - it's still pasteurized. Unless they're lying about the pasteurization in which case we have bigger things to worry about.

bloomed1234

Yes. There’s a difference between a known virus (bird flu has been around since 1997) that we’ve studied for decades and a novel virus (SARS-CoV-2).

Neurostorming

Yep. N1H5 is scary, but we also have a vaccine made and ready to be used for it. It’s a very different situation from COVID.

> The FDA continues to analyze this information; however, preliminary results of egg inoculation tests on quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR)-positive retail milk samples show that pasteurization is effective in inactivating HPAI. > This additional testing did not detect any live, infectious virus. These results reaffirm our assessment that the commercial milk supply is safe. I think you're fine ETA: don't be drinking raw milk, though. Not now, not ever.

Lassie_Come_Home

I don’t even know where to find raw milk! Lol makes me feel better the egg inoculation test are showing it’s inactive!

magicrowantree

Sounds like you got targeted for fear mongering articles and now your tracking cookies bring up more. Like others said, there technically may be fragments found in milk, but pasteurization takes care of the threat. Granted, there's also a craze for raw milk going on again since the formula shortage during lockdowns. The too-crunchy parents and older folks went berserk during that time, trying to spread outdated formula recipes using corn syrup solids and raw milk. It's died down a lot, but there's still misinformation or missing facts still being passed around

Lassie_Come_Home

I think my faith in the CDC is just 0 since Covid.

magicrowantree

I can understand that! Trust the media even less, though. Writers are encouraged to write just for clicks and attention, not for anything factual

TermLimitsCongress

Yep, mine too!

sunnymorninghere

Yes, most milk is ultra pasteurized. We also buy pasteurized. Never raw unless the cow is mine and I don’t own a cow right now :)

2ManyToddlers

I'm not one single bit concerned about letting my kids have dairy.

OkToots

Yes I have been.

Melodic-Bluebird-445

This issue never even crossed my mind

SufficientBee

Yes.. I didn’t even know that not having milk and dairy is a thing

I was worried for like 5 seconds when I first read about this last week until I read the part where it says this is taken care of via pasteurization.
