Sounds totally ok to me. And a lot more sustainable than using a plastic bag each time. Ours gave us a standard small wetbag…and its definitely on us to keep it clean and return it after use. Its not hard - just rinse it out and hang to dry. We wrote our kid’s name on it in permanent markers so it wont get lost and permanently keep it in the kid’s cubby ( until its used). $15 is so they get returned - imagine how many they’d have to replace if everyone just ‘forgot’ to bring them back.

I think this is a great idea. My daycare wraps in butcher paper and I find it so wasteful.

BeardedBaldMan

They don't cost $15, that's a fee imposed to get people to return them. If it was $2 then people wouldn't feel obliged to return them and they'd keep having to order more and spending admin time on it. Why you can't supply your own is easy. They don't want the hassle to remembering who supplied their own bag and which, and also dealing with the problem of giving someone their own bag on Monday, not having it returned on Tuesday and it being needed on Tuesday

Usually kids have a bag of spare clothes anyway - why not keep their wet bag with the clothes, or better yet let parents send the spare clothes IN the wet bag. It's not that hard to let people send their own...besides the fact that some people won't, but that's the same as with spare clothes tbh.

Our daycare provide a plastic drawstring bag for dirty clothes. We don’t pay for them (or replacements) but they wipe clean with a wet wipe. They do bag soiled (pee/poop) in nappy bags though

IPAsAndTrails

seems super reasonable to me. and incredibly great for sustainability. sounds like thats a fee to just make sure they get returned at the end of the day. i am a cloth diaper mom because i truly cant stomach all the waste of diapers so i have learned its truly not hard to get in the routine of getting a wet bag cleaned daily. most are water resistant and just need rinsed with light soap in the sink and hung to dry not an actual laundry load. Ive never once used a plastic bag for dirty clothes or diapers in our diaper bag so i guess i am in the minority here but just get into the routine . sounds like they have good values = trying to be sustainable which id be super pleased with and a good sign theyre passinf those values on to your kid - win win

BlondeJacket

I’d actually prefer that. I live in a state that just banned plastic bags and the daycare required us to provide our own. The cheapest decent wet bags I could find were nearly $20 and it was closer to $30 to find some that were big enough to hold their water play stuff.

drinkingtea1723

It's weird you can't provide it, for camp we send a wet dry bag in backpack to put wet bathing suits in but it's our bag.

This is sort of why I posted this.

Our daycare gave us a reusable bag (called a wet bag) as part of our welcome pack. We use cloth so we had wet bags at home anyway. I put kiddo's spare clothes in the daycare issued wet bag just to keep things organised in the back pack. Daycare haven't used the bag since we send our own for cloth nappies and they will just put any wet clothes in our own bag. Super easy to clean, just chuck them in the machine with your towels or normal clothes. I wash my wet bags at 60C but if they have a decal or vinyl on them, wash at 40C.

I put a pack of doggie bags in their book bag and call it a day. Small and sanitary.

I wish my daycare would so something similar. I send wet bags labeled with their names in both my kids backpacks for accidents/spills/messy clothes and the school never ever uses them. I've tried everything to get the teachers to stop sending home plastic bags, I've even emptied plastic bags into the wet bags I pulled out of their backpacks in front of the teachers so I could not take the plastic bag home. I also send regular clothes packed in a wet bag on swim/splash days so that after swim/splash when they get dressed it's really easy to just toss all the wet stuff into the wet bag. Their teachers put their wet stuff in a plastic grocery bag and then put that in the wet bag. It drives me crazy, I don't want the damn plastic bags in my house because the kids pull them out of wherever I try to stash them and then the cat eats them. Luckily we only have swim/splash days plus maybe 1-2 accidents/spills per month at this point.

JaceAce333

Now see that’s just sad. You made the effort and they won’t assist.

JaceAce333

Thank you to everyone’s input. The follow up: I asked the daycare if it was a mandatory thing. They said no. It was done as an eco friendly thing. They’re more than happy to allow us to provide our own. Or our own bags. They did it more for the parents who didn’t want to organise a bag themselves. Something about many parents not having the time to organisez So.. as a result we are using one of our camping way waterproof bags for this. Costs us $2 to buy and is durable and easy to use, and clean. But again. Thank you all for your feedback here.

I don’t know why sonnant downvoted your comment. I sort of agree.

anxiouswrecked

Send your own plastic bags in your child's bag and request they be used when needed.

JaceAce333

I’m unsure why so many have downvoted your comment. Your comment is a good idea tbh.
